General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

Among the patrons entering and leaving, Vasil spotted faces that were familiar, even if he did not have names for most of them. he tapped the empty glass on the bar, idly considering another drink. When the bartender approached and asked if he wanted another, he slid the empty across the bar and said with a shrug and a wry grin, "Sure, let's try for at least two this trip. Maybe I'll get lucky enough to finish it."

"Oh, um, like oh shit, I didn't mean to send that, but like, that's my name and stuff I guess. But like, here's what you wanted officer. Sorry"

After making some quick one-handed changes, Willow found the file she wanted, and set her device to only send to the receiving device right in front of hers, and sent the file.

Turning around, Willow cut into her pie with the spork and took a scolding mouth full. The pain helped take her mind off the worry that she was about to get caught for abducting, and dumping Emmeline at the edge of the galaxy.

"Whoow, I'm full" Said Willow fanning her mouth with her good hand "Like, it was good to see you Vee"

Taking her extract back, Willow stuffed it in her pocket and hopped off the stool.

"Like, my arms hurting, so I'm going to relax for a bit you know?" she said as natural as an animal in the zoo "See you later ok?"

With a wave to Vasil, Willow headed for the exit.

Kasumi Goto"Yeah... I don't know. Too much activity for me here. And I don't want to deal with her."

My reply was accompanied with a less-than-friendly glare in the direction of the Imperial woman, who'd done nothing more than get on my nerves for no good reason, and try to get me caught up in a fight when I was there with the intention of winding down a little. So my first instinct was to head off into a corner, as far away from her as I could get, paying little attention to Willow and the other two men present while doing so. They seemed to be caught up in a conversation of their own, anyway, so I didn't want to disrupt it.
"Yeeeahh..." I replied slowly, "I bet you don't."

I looked at Jenna once more though, trying to pick up what kind of emotions she was expressing.

"Hmmm... She's looking like she's drowning in sadness and desperation. But, yeah... I understand. Every time I saw her, she's been starting all kinds of aggressive trouble. Maybe the boomerang hit her in the face. I don't know."

I shrugged.

"We may as well entrench ourselves in some far corner and invite that tech girl with a broken arm, seems like she's a friend of yours. Or return to our ships, if that's okay for you now, and get back to our things."

“I mean, I would, but she’s in the process of leaving. Unless you want to try calling - I sure didn’t get any answer to the message I sent last to apologize for the mess that blue-hair over there made me cause.”

I sighed, mildly annoyed at that, and what felt like unwarranted ignorance from another individual.

“But I’m not interested in going out anywhere yet. So I’ll stay here for now.”

Vasil nodded to Willow, politely saying nothing about her suddenly being full from only a bite or two of her vending machine mystery-meat-pie or her hasty departure.

Vasil swiveled the barstool so that he could rest his right arm on the bar. His sky-blue eyes roamed over the place, never stopping on anyone on anything as he cautiously raised his glass of bourbon. he hesitated just before taking a swallow. A glance left towards the two women that had come in together. A glance right toward Jenna. Annnnd.... SUCCESS! he was ablet to get in a swallow of bourbon.

He chuckled, grinned, amused at something only he was aware of.

"Ah, yeah. I think I understand. Phah," I chuckled ironically. "Reminds me of my younger, like, teen years. Every time you tried to hang around a person you'd like to hang around, talk to them, whatever... Not always in a romantic meaning of those actions... Unexpected, wacky, wicked, triple godsdamned shit happened. Every bloody time. And you had to explain you wasn't the source of said shit."

"Anyway..." I motioned to the bar, "If you still don't mind having me around, we may find a place and drop there. I'd like to order my things... Old-fashioned way. To see how they do them. And meanwhile you might search for a place that's acceptable for you, since every table here, as long as it doesn't have something disgusting on it, under it, or on the couches or stools, is acceptable for me."

Having seen Meowers and Kasumi enter the bar I take a swig of my wine. I take a deep breath to center myself and push back the looming waterfall of emotions. I was a wreck mentally, my whole world view was skewed and I felt like I would rather be locked in a padded room so I could scream and punch and cry to my hearts content. Everything inside of me was turbulent, but I was fighting to regain my identity and show the world who I was raised to be.

I approach Kasumi and Meowers very cautiously ensuring my hands remained visible to show I meant no harm. I took another deep breath shaking as a wave of intense emotion rushes over me.

'I want... *deep breath in to center my mind again* I want to apologize for my previous outbursts. I haven't been myself lately. I know that is no excuse for my actions and as a Duchess I should know better than to let my emotions rage on like a tempest while in public.'

'I would like to extend an offer to assist you in bringing my wife home. I only ask that you help me gather the necessary evidence against Diaz and our other squadmates, to prove my innocence in a personal matter. I understand that trusting me is not something one would do graciously especially after my actions.'

My tone begins to soften and a hint of desperation begins to ring through.

'Please... she is all I have left to live for in this galaxy. Please let me help you bring her home.'

Seeing Jenna approaching us, I nodded and said neutrally, "Hello."

Then I addressed to Kasumi, "Bad brain stuff does funny things with one's emotions," I placed a hand on my chest, "In some, they fade away to a shutdown," then slowly motioned towards Jenna with the same hand, "In some, they burn uncontrollably."

Looking at Jenna, I added, "I'm afraid I don't know how can I help on this stage. Both you and Kasumi did several investigations and infiltrations already, in search for clues and directions, and I still don't know much about people involved. Not to mention I can't really... Search for things staying hidden. Unless you want me to follow your steps and be a backup in case shit gets out of hand."

'Are you handy with a gun? You look like you might know your way around a heavy weapon. Any approach we take whether quiet or loud we will be needing heavy support. I can clear internally but Diaz is a monster of a man.'

'He can rip doors from their bulkheads and use that blast door as a shield. I have seen him go toe to toe with a grizzly from earth and win. I don't want to be anywhere within arms reach of that man...... not again.'

Jenna folds her arms around her waist as a memory of Diaz delivering a full force kick to her stomach rushes through her mind.

Vasil caught occasional parts of the conversation between the women as the music and noises of the bar ebbed and flowed. Of the three, he'd only ever spoken to Jenna, had a pleasant meal with her once as the Chateau Dans Le Ciel, which Silvia had recommended. And now, there was Jenna asking forgiveness and seeming to him to be on the verge of begging the others to allow her to help. It was not that she was Imperial or making herself vulnerable by the emotions welling up within her, but the reasons for that vulnerability that struck him.

He'd been vulnerable once, some twenty years ago, but he'd been a coward. He'd not said what needed to be said and lost something he thought would be in his life until the end. After twenty years the pain and regret lingered on like an old scar, forgotten until agitated, no longer painful, but rather a reminder of the past. He owed none of the three women anything but hearing Jenna caused that old scar to ache just a bit and he debated internally whether or not he should say something.

Draining his bourbon, he took a breath, stared at the glass for a moment, then said, looking toward the women. "Talk to that wisp of a young woman with the busted arm, Willow. She gave an Omni-pol fellow information on some unregistered carrier transiting the Sol system. A smart woman like that could probably find all sorts of interesting things that want to stay hidden."

Totally Not Silvia Sharpe'Are you handy with a gun? You look like you might know your way around a heavy weapon. Any approach we take whether quiet or loud we will be needing heavy support. I can clear internally but Diaz is a monster of a man.'

"Hm," I rubbed my chin slightly. "Precisely. I've got an old Fed M724, you can't find something like that in those new... Prank stores selling toy guns. Been practicing with this gun for several years, like... I'm a pilot, but sometimes you have to, literally, stand your ground."

A sight of Jenna's Imperial Brand blue hair made me add a remark, "You may be of Imperial origin, but, I guess... Noone can argue that Feds know how to make guns. Good enough to trust your life with. At least knew, until recently."

I shrugged, "Still, doesn't cover the matters of getting in there. Though, I assume, that's not going to be my role in the upcoming... operation."

'I have half a mind to load a cutter with as heavy shielding as I can and then some reinforce the hull as hard as she will allow, the slam her into the bridge of that carrier. It's less graceful than sneaking onboard, but I have my doubts about that. The hand off is in a few days.'

'I can't stress this enough if that hand off happens Silvia will be lost forever. I can't raid that facility. No one can.'

I motion to the bar staff to grab my bottle of wine and wine glass. They bring it over and place it on a table next to me. I turn to look as vasil an tilt my head slightly.

'Willow'

The name rings through my mind as a song wisps through my mind. A line slips from my lips before I get a chance to catch myself.

'Singing O Willow waly till my lover returns to me'
10 Aug 2023, 5:32am
I had remained entirely quiet as the conversation unfolded, left to brood on thoughts. The grey-haired man making a mention of Willow having something was enough to kick me off, however.

“We already know where that carrier is, thanks.”, I said, in a much blunter tone than intended. “But if she thinks that she has anything else useful, she’s welcome to share it. If she doesn’t run off again for no clearly apparent reason, like basically every fucking time I’ve seen her.”

There was an obvious sense of annoyance throughout the last part of the statement. I turned my attention to ‘Jenna’, who I still felt no inclination to actually call by her, from my perspective, not-very-fitting alias. The tone I spoke to her in clearly indicating I didn’t think highly of her, but would tolerate if she behaved.

“You can help if you care so much to. And I was already planning to go through whatever files I could find on that ship and give them to you, but not because of you. You’ve given me no reason to want to help you, but I’m doing it because of what Silvia has told me about you. And I have a gun that can punch right through a Scorpion’s armor, so I doubt he’ll be able to hide behind a metal bulkhead.”

Back to Meowers.

“I’m expecting things to get loud in there at one point or another, and I’m not interested in taking on a fleet carrier’s entire security force all by myself. As to how we get in there, I might have something, but I’ll need another day or two to go through those files I recovered. Apparently …” I gestured to the Imperial woman, hardly looking her way. “… there is some kind of access code hidden away in them. It won’t fool anyone who decides to look out a window or check who is actually supposed to be there, but it will let us get close enough to really cause a mess.”

A plan was beginning to form in my head, though it would still require a certain form of backup, and I had no intention of trying to trust random mercenary forces that switched sides as soon as more money than the previous bidder was thrown at them.

Meowers

“Every time? That fits the… ‘meetings’ pretty much spot on. Each time we’ve met there has been someone who had to be an idiot and start a fight, or provoke me into a fight.” A very telling glare went toward ‘Jenna’. “Or some other stupid, silly nonsense. Then I try to apologize to her with a message, and what does she do? Fucking ignore me. Not even a “Yeah, I get it” or “I understand, but I’m also not interested”. Just plain goddamn fucking silence. So if you want to talk to her for me about it, go ahead and try. Not like I’m being listened to. Her name’s Willow, by the way.”

My outburst of frustration, at the perceived ignorance I felt I was being shown, suddenly felt out of place, and I made myself as small as I could in my corner. Not an easy task, considering how I was usually one of the taller people in a room.

“All I wanted was to just not have all this shitty stuff to think about for one day.”, I muttered, just loud enough to be heard, and turned my attention away from the three people near me. I could have taken one or two others, but not three, two of whom were practically still strangers, and one of them I hated.

As if to add insult to injury, I now finally noticed the unintentionally shared card Willow had thrown into the data streams going through the facility, caught by a program I had monitoring them within an isolated code shell.
10 Aug 2023, 5:37am
I was still at bar, now with more informations as when I arrived. Now only three women, two of them I met sooner and new one looking like somebody from Imperial family, were un-asked, so I made my way to them. I said: "Hello there, I am Adam Štefánik, investigating detective of Omni Pol. Can I ask you what do you know about Mrs. Silvia Sharpe, her dosappearance and possible whereabouts? And please can I know all of your names? Protocol must be complete."
