General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

“No, I’m not kidding. That really is the name he’s been giving to people, to call him by.”

I took my drink and looked at it in closer detail. A bunch of crushed fruit pieces were in a separate container, but I didn’t really care much. Never did like pulp in my juice, so I started to sip away at it like that.

“Not too bad, I guess. I’ll pay for my own stuff when we’re done here.”

Willow was busy all over Melli, so I wasn’t quite sure if she’d heard - but I could always say it again later if I needed. I cleared my throat to get her attention.

“I think Silvia went into the back room for staff here. Might be the last time we get to see them for a while, if you want to talk to her.”

I thought about waving over to Venus for a moment, but decided against it for now, only looking that way. They didn’t need the concern of Azimuth having sent operatives to Colonia - where I suspected they were headed - in the past to silence people that knew about Project Seraph. But I’d provide advice if asked for it.

I was on my way to the bar, little nervous because I have heard about big explosion in system in which would nothing explode. Oficialy. Unoficially there was at least one carrier, if not two and 10 to 20 ships. Again, in shady ops.

As I entered bar, I felt little relieved. I spotted two familiar persons-Willow and Kasumi. Kasumi probably was first there, since seat selection was done by her standards-isolated from most of bar.

So I headed to them, and when I reached that couch, I asked them: "Can I take the seat? I am there privately, not in the duty. How rough was that operation? I wont ask if it was easy, because carrier full of doubtfull existences with even more strange past, is not easy thing to clear up."

"I mean, I'd like to, but like, what do I say you know? I hardly know the woman, and like it's weird"

Willow played out the meeting for Kasumi.

"Oh hey, welcome back from your harrowing experience, I hear you're leaving now. Well, like you made me a drink or two, so like, goodbye, I'll miss your drink fetching and singing. Take care now"

"You see, it sounds like, totally fake and like I don't mean it. I don't know what top say .. .and that sucks, coz like, I have plenty to say to Jen if I'd taken care of Silvia's final resting"

That gave Willow a revelation she really didn't want.

"Oh crap, I can only be myself around people if I'm comforting those that have lost someone. Like wow, I got problems"

Willow had got so side tracked by her introspection, she hadn't noticed officer Štefánik arrive.

Adam 'The detective' Štefánik
So I headed to them, and when I reached that couch, I asked them: "Can I take the seat? I am there privately, not in the duty. How rough was that operation? I wont ask if it was easy, because carrier full of doubtfull existences with even more strange past, is not easy thing to clear up."

"It's all gone. Not much survives a reactor of that size going critical.", I replied, in mostly casual manner. "Yeah, we didn't make it without losses. But the bastard is dead. As is his operation. Unless he turned himself into an AI like that idiot Salvation."

I paused for a second to check my wrist computer, thinking that there should've been a bounty claim somewhere, since I was the one that ended the man's life - and that of his clones. Sure enough, the record had been validated upon returning to inhabited space. I flashed it up for the man who'd just shown up.

"Is that proof enough? Anything else, I'll need to access recordings onboard my ship, but the only meaningful thing is that the carrier is scorched wreckage now. And you can have that claim if you'd like - I don't need the money."

Willow Thorn"Oh crap, I can only be myself around people if I'm comforting those that have lost someone. Like wow, I got problems"

I turned to Willow after responding to the officer.

"Well, you said it yourself before. Just now, but you get the idea. Not like we had much of a choice in becoming who we are. And, I'll be honest, I'm the last person to accuse someone of having weird quirks. Just look at how I dress up for public appearances."

The weird quirk part mostly related to my hood, but most - or rather, all - my attire was basically the opposite of what you'd expect from a female individual. Not that it was something I particularly cared for.

"Well, anyway, I might want to see Silvia before she goes. Or maybe she'll come by when she comes out. Kinda don't feel like disturbing her in there."
13 Sep 2023, 6:42pm
"Oh like, hi officer" Said Willow noticing officer Štefánik had wondered over.

"So, I guess we could go say something if you want to. I'd feel like, I'm invading or something if I went to see her on my own" said Willow still making a fuss of Not So Smelly.

Melli snuggles up to Willow leaving white fluff all over as she enjoys the scratches and pats. The excited chattering causes Venus to turn around and smile. She may not have been the most friendly person recently and because of such decided it best to avoid the group. Her typical Imperial clothing was nowhere to be seen, instead she almost looked as if she was gearing up for a venture into the unknown. The black was always a place where Venus and I found peace. The distant planets and the ever diverse lifeforms were such a treat for me. For all she was Venus really did have a heart of gold when I came to ensuring I always felt like I was doing something valuable.

I stood from my seated position on the bed wiping away the tears and began to pick up the mess I had left behind. All of Melli's toys were strewn about in a chaotic frenzy. I poke my head under the bed and find a stash of toys all piled up like a squirrels stash for winter. I pull them all out and place them in the bag. I gave the room a once over and ensured I was leaving nothing behind. I pause at the doorway and look out into the bar. Many of the guests I had served were missing but a few were around chatting peacefully, Melli per usual was soaking up the attention from anyone willing to give it.

Venus looks over to me and we lock eyes. Our reunion was less than pleasant but I knew what she had told me was true. She never once lied to me about her interactions with people and always swore to tell me everything. Seeing her for the first time in 10 months, well 10 months since I remember seeing her, brought up mixed feelings. I felt as though I was betrayed but also like I had woken up from a horrible nightmare. I started to walk towards Venus when she shook her head as if to say not yet. I understood what she meant by the action and stopped at the edge of the bar.

Walking over to the group of people I stopped and in a polite tone spoke to the group, my Irish accent ringing true.

'Good..... eve.... morn.... after..... hmm no... Hello everyone. Might I interest you in one of the bars specials? 'Tis my last few moments on the station and likely my last few hours in the bubble. It has been my utmost pleasure serving each of you.'

I paused getting slightly choked up thinking about leaving after just returning.

'You all have had an impact in mi life that I shan't forget.'

I turn to look at Willow directly her pale skin contrasting brilliantly against her dark clothes and hair.

'Venus told me what ye 'ad done fer her. You have my deepest thanks. She also told me of what she 'ad done recently and well while it wasn't exactly right, please try and forgive her actions. That side of 'er is a presence many don't care to interact with. Here please take this as a token of both of our gratitude.'

I reach to my back and pull out a sheathed dagger. The leather sheath expertly hand crafted and stitched with gold thread. The handle of the dagger is hand carved and engraved with a combined crest of house Duval and a lynx for the house Sharpe, my family crest. In the pommel is a singular tanzanite jewel perfectly cut to reflect a thousand colors amidst the bluish violet stone. The blade as I pull it out is expertly folded dogtooth Damascus sharp as a razor on both ends and perfectly balanced. The blades total length is no more than 10in and sleek.

'We may not have 'ad a chance to get to know eachother better but I do hope that one day when we return, if we return that we might cross paths again. Again thank you fer what ye done.'

I turn to Kira and Adam to see what they had to say. It was alot for me and it was showing. The events from the last 9 months had left me broken.
13 Sep 2023, 7:24pm
I wasn't really sure what to say. I fumbled around in my mind for thoughts, and on my belt for the pouch that held something specific. When I found it, I stood up and walked up to Silvia.

"Never really got to say proper thanks, so... thanks for stopping me from putting an end to myself. And ..." I put the blue gem I had been handed to by Melli, into one of Silvia's hands. "I never felt right keeping that. If I had any better to give as a memory, I would."

I turned away and sat back down in my spot, lowering my head to where nobody could see my face, thanks to the hood, and fought off tears that I felt forming in my eyes. For all intents and purposes, this was like losing a friend, something I had hoped I'd never have to experience again. And why I struggled to let anyone close to me even more now.

"Er, so yeah, I guess I've been where you are now and like, I ran for months to put it all behind me. So yeah, ok your case is a little different because, well like, you know why, and like."

This was hard, everyone was emotional and Willow didn't fit in to their lives that much, so she felt real out of place.

"Um, oh that thing I did with the chemical is just a thing, you know? And like, I hope it helped, so your here, so I guess it did, or like, may have"

She could feel the panic start to rise, and the urge to leave was real strong, but this was a bar and Silvia was a barmaid, maybe there was an out.

"Hey, you're still staff right, still on the payroll? So what's that drink you paddies always talk about? Jinnus, Ginnis? Like pour us a glass of that, or like, sing a song before you go. Like, if you can get the lid of that sticky piano to open anymore"
13 Sep 2023, 7:59pm
I firstly answered to the Kasumi: "I dont need records from your ship, this is enough. I hope too that he didnt transformed his mind to some AI. Finaly something, what he deserved after ruining many families-mine too, and lives. It is good that carrier is gone too-I cant it explain, but something in me tells, that it was pay off for destroying my carrier." I spotted Silvia and Venus heading toward us. After dialog between her and Willow, she gave Willow noble, Imperial looking dagger.

Then, Silvia turned to me and Kasumi. They both were quiet, so it was my turn, so I have said: "I am not poetist or rhetorician, so it wont be perfect" I have smiled lightly. "I was not guest of this or other bar, aside once at Hutton Orbital, but that was other thing. Before sone months, I cant remember precisely, I was there for first time. As normal pilot after hard day. I was bit anti social too, but that first visit of the bar changed it so much. No, it was not because alcohol, but that atmosphere, You behind counter and that troubled guy behind piano. It was almost like family feeling, which I didnt encountered for almost 6 years. Since one bad guy decided to took normal civilians. I was then lucky one, I wasnt at home. He took me whole family which I known."

"But there, that feeling particulary came back, and it is such warm and good feeling. I hope that bad guys dont find you in that black. If yes, and you will have oportunity to cobtact me, cavalry will be on way. I gues Ina and Kasumi, too. Thats all from me." When I finished, standed at attention and saluted to Silvia, then to Venus. "God will be with you" I have said at last

'Hehe, Guinness? Certainly miss Thorn. Though I suspect that isn't your real name. Not the place nor the time though. I'll get the staff going on those drinks and I'll see about getting the dusty piano opened.'

I place a gentle hand on Willow's shoulder and offer a reassuring and grounding squeeze to let her know that place was safe and emotions are allowed to run high.

'Goodbyes are always hard. Even if you feel like you had no significant role in a person's life. Little interactions have a lasting impact. A flower can bloom in yhe desert under the right conditions.'

I clutch the palm sized tanzanite jewel and go to put it in my pocket. Melli notices the stone recognizing it immediately and growls low. She leaps over and snatches it out on my hand and places it back on Kira's lap. The chattering she releases is that of confusion and almost reprimanded.

'Melli give pretty rock as gift. You keep it. Not for giving back. Gifts are forever just like rainbow rock.'

'Melli...'

'No you tell Kira not for gives backs.'

'I'm afraid that was a gift to you from Melli and she is insisting you keep the gift. She says a gift is forever just like that stone. You are not allowed to return it to myself of Melli.'

I pause for a moment then continue.

'Listen it may not have a purpose to you but that stone deserves to be with a brilliant person. One who's true beauty can only be appreciated by those who know what they are looking at. That Cutter of yours should have a slot next to the main display that you can place it. Keep it there so when you see it you will always remember the little fox and her crazy Handler. The dagger you received from Venus is more than just ornamental. You may find it to be strong enough to pierce that lovely osmium armor of yours. Very rare to find a blade that can do that.'

I take a breath and straighten myself up.

'Right any requests for a tune? Oh and before I forget..... Sam a round of Guiness for everyone present in the bar save for one bring over a glass of fruit juice for the lovely lady in black with the hood. No alcohol.'

I wink at Kira remembering she prefers her drinks non alcoholic. I walk over to the piano and dust it off gently opening the top with relative ease and pulling up a music log and searching for a song to express my truest feeling about the moment. Venus walks over to the piano and sits next to me and smiles when she see the song.

'June please play the instrumentals for Parting Glass by Celtic Woman.'

"Certainly. Wonderful song choice."

June activates back up instrumentals as I begin to play piano of Parting Glass. Venus chimes in matching my melodic voice as we begin to sing our fullest emotions running through each word.

Guinness was so heavy, it could almost be chewed. It wasn't Willows thing, but sharing a drink with an Irish before they left was like, a crime to refuse. At least the drink was coordinated with Willows look.

The song the women were singing was real good for the moment, and said a lot to everyone that bothered to listen to the well sung words. Still feeling like a stranger at someone else's party, Willow sat down and made her self small hoping not to draw attention to her self.
13 Sep 2023, 9:04pm
Music wasn’t in it for me, however good it might’ve been. Not today. Silvia had run off to hit the piano before I could respond again, too, not helping my brooding mood too much. I placed the gemstone on the table.

“Nobody touch that unless I say I don’t want it.”

I put earplugs into my, well, ears, and began to look through the menu of the bar, on a pad that had been placed on the table. I’d been brought a second glass of juice before I even finished the first, but food would at least somewhat improve my mood. And not much attention was directed at me thanks to the song, so that was something, at least.
13 Sep 2023, 9:09pm
Looking at Kasumi doing pretty much the same as herself, Willow couldn't help but smile. They were so alike, they could be sisters.
13 Sep 2023, 9:35pm
My choice fell on what looked like a meat steak, beef, to be specific. Expensive, but I had the money anyway, and it looked good. Placing the order, I selected medium rare for how I wanted it cooked, and went back to being the quiet, easily-missed individual in the bar.

My wrist computer suddenly lit up, informing me of a message. It was about some kind of package delivery, signed by Meowers, asking where to deliver it. I selected my Phantom, still docked here after the excursion to the Queen Anne’s Revenge - I’d be taking it out first, to my carrier, then have the Corvette shipped over.

As luck would have it, another message arrived then, and I quickly covered the device from views when I saw the sender. It was from Alba, but I didn’t want to read its contents yet. Not here, at least, where it was easy to sneak looks in, and I wanted to avoid anyone that didn’t need or deserve to know about any allegiance to Aegis. It would be too easy to make a connection from there. Or, at least, I thought it would be. Maybe my concerns would have been more justified if Seo had been the sender, but I hadn’t received any direct messages from her for months. Perhaps, for that exact reason.

I switched the device’s message notifications to off and just listened to the muffled sounds coming through my earplugs. The ambience created by the music was much more tolerable this way, rather than it coming to my sensitive ears at full volume.

At the conclusion of the song I let Venus take over who plays some soft ambiance music while I had over to the bar for one final round of mixed drinks. I search the bar and notice it is nearly empty of all the good stuff and what is left of that is mostly better on its own. I open the lower cabinet and pull out 4 bottles of colorful liquids. A swirling blue alcohol which looked as though it was a potion, a neon green liquid that unless labeled might be mistaken for highlighter ink, a blood red drink with a glimmering accent inside of it, and an almost lavender colored liquid swirling and churning like a stars surface.

I begin the tedious process of adding each liquid into the glass ensuring not to let the colors mix to much. From a pouch on my waist I pull out 6 glowing capsules filled with a harmless edible bioluminescent liquid that glowed a bright blue and place one into each of the glasses in fron of me. The lower gravity of the Galactic had allowed me to arrange the liquids in a chaotic manner almost as if a star had exploded. I bring each drink over to the guests in the bar and place them down gently.

'Please enjoy my own unique drink. The Supernova. Sip it or chug it the result is the same. A beautifully balanced cocktail befitting the most refined of pallets. You have all given me something unique and wonderful. Some gave advice and others gave me friendship. This is not goodbye but a Til I see you again.'

I smile and bow before grabbing my bags. I start towards the exit and wait for Venus to finish her song and set the bar to play on auto shuffle of various different bar tunes. Melli looks at Willow, her curious eyes almost seeming saddened to be leaving her favorite scratching person. Begrudgingly she stands and follows after myself and Venus.
