General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

Silvia Sharpe'Between you and me if you want to try a drink and it goes south I'll put you in the back room for a bit. It is entirely your choice though.'

"Thanks, but I'll pass. We've had enough of people spontaneously passing out, or otherwise causing trouble here, recently."

I started on the glass of water first, realizing that the fork in my right hand was just hitting the bottom of the food box. Pushing it aside, I suspiciously eyed the colorful drink while swirling it lightly, not sure what to make of it. I then put the glass back down, and looked at Silvia again.

"So, are you finally going to tell me who exactly tried breaking into your ship... when was it? I don't remember. Guess it's not so important when, anyway. But there wasn't much in the security report telling the who or why, particularly since the people that did it also never left the ship again, and I'm not the owner, so the finer details were blacked out. If you're not gonna tell, though, fine. I won't push it."
24 Jun 2023, 11:38pm
I watch Kira eyeing the drink with suspicion in her eyes and hold back a slight smile. The image of it reminds me of the first time I made Venus the drink.

'It's punch, not that it's going to punch you. If you don't want it I'll drink it.'

My brow furrows at the mention of the attempted theft of Melli.

'I don't know if you ever met her but her name was Jules.....*let's out a sigh trying to think of how to best explain things*... she was someone I knew..... sort of.'

I pull a glass out of the wash station and begin to clean it as I continue.

'I don't think she was doing this of her own accord. Melli was never with me during that time. Plus she had a second man there....'

I place the glass away and grab the final one out of the wash station.

'I took ownership of her Fer De Lance and ran a check on the recent messages... there is one there that is corrupted and removed from the system. The ship AI is useless and won't help me because I'm not an "authorized" Commander for the ship.'

"Stupid fucking AI... I own the ship." I say in a barely audible tone before putting the glass away and looking to Kira again.

Silvia Sharpe'I don't know if you ever met her but her name was Jules.....*let's out a sigh trying to think of how to best explain things*... she was someone I knew..... sort of.'

"Don't think I have. Not directly, anyway. Tall, cybernetic limbs in fancy color, right?"

'How I could have turned out, if I'd been less careful', I added in my thoughts.

"Seen you two around here once or twice. Before... you know." I latched on to the other piece of information I was given, which interested me more. "Corrupted, you say? I might just know a thing. And something that helps with security, too."

I took a data chip out of a pouch on my belt and downloaded a copy of a program onto it, handing it over when the process completed. I kept my voice a little lower, to avoid any security systems or people listening in.

"There. That program will try to recover any corrupted data that it can... if you run that part of its directive, anyway. Otherwise, it's 'just' good at breaking most known security systems you'll ever run into. I used it myself when I found an abandoned site of... you know who. And do they have a lot of dirty secrets that they don't want anyone to know."

I paused for a moment, returning to a normal tone.

"Well, that assumes whatever program they used didn't try to fully erase the message. If it did, well, best hope it was sloppy work, and that it left some crumbs to piece things together. Oh, and you have the safe version, by the way. You don't want to know what the not-so-safe one does."

Thinking I probably surprised Silvia with that, I let a rare, somewhat smug, and appropriately subtle smile, slip through.

"What, you didn't think I just chose this look because it makes it easier for me to go into public places?"
25 Jun 2023, 12:24am
I look at the chip knowing what it was. Taking the chip from Kira I go to put it in a pocket quickly remembering I'm in a skirt and I didn't grab my belt and holster.

'Thank you...... uhm..... actually could you... I don't have pockets.'

'Will it lock out an AI? Because that thing is pissing me off.'

I think about who Kira could mean by "you know who" the name eludes me but I have a feeling I know who it is she is talking about.

'If it was that...... group... they did a damn good job covering their tracks. I'm not a hacker but I have a few decryption scripts I can use.'

Silvia Sharpe
'Thank you...... uhm..... actually could you... I don't have pockets.'

“Uh …” I gazed up, not too sure how to respond. “Maybe throw it into that bag you’ve got laying around? It looks empty.”

I pointed at the aforementioned bag, which lay behind the bar.

Silvia Sharpe’Will it lock out an AI? Because that thing is pissing me off.'

“As for locking out a COVAS - it’s not an AI unless illegally modified, by the way - it could do that. Or let you into the program to register you as the owner, if you don’t want to go through the usual registry process. Don’t recommend though, unless you plan on removing and replacing it with your own so it looks legit.”

I thought about Silvia’s last statement for a second.

“Oh, and they sure are. I figured you might want to know for sure who it was though. Those types of people usually don’t give up very easily, if they don’t get what they wanted the first time.”

'Is that my bag? Heck I don't know anymore best to not go putting this any old place. Hmmm oh ya....*smacks myself in the forehead as if to say I'm dumb.*.. I have shirt pockets.'

I reach into my vest and place the chip in my left chest pocket ensuring it is securely fastened before carrying on.

'There is a covas but there is also an AI.'

I stop and think for a moment before continuing.

'Hmm well until I try this out I can't say for sure it was them. Besides if anyone does try it again Melli will rip them to shreds. That room is hers now. Thankfully management was nice enough to let me keep her in there.'
25 Jun 2023, 1:39am
'There is a covas but there is also an AI.'

“Yeah, uh, I’m not sure you want to have a ship with an AI on it. Those things are, like, really illegal. Something to do with people fearing them going rogue on humans. Not that it’s surprising when you treat a sentient being like a mere tool. Have you tried reasoning with it? Because it’s probably not gonna like a hacking program in its systems, and I didn’t design it for an actual AI.”

I looked over to the back room.

“You know, I… well, family used to have a cat, and yours reminds me of them. That room is probably going to be a total mess once you’re done working. Especially if there’s toys in there.”

I looked at the special mix that stood in front of me and tested it, only to pull a slight face.

“Nevermind. Bit too strong for my tastes, and not the flavors I particularly like. Have it if you want. Oh, and I don’t know about that bag either. Just looks like it’s been forgotten by someone. Anyway …”

A sudden unease overcame me, originating from within my head. I tried not to let it show on my face as I attempted to figure out the cause.

Kira Goto

“You know, I… well, family used to have a cat, and yours reminds me of them. That room is probably going to be a total mess once you’re done working. Especially if there’s toys in there.”

'Oh I am very very aware but she hasn't had time to just be herself for a while so I'm not super concerned about there being a mess. Enrichment is extremely important for her. She isn't just a pet by the way.'

Watching as Kira takes a drink and makes a face at it I laugh a little.

'Haha. You don't like my punch line? That's OK it isn't for everyone.'

I take the drink back and place it on a chilling pad beneath the bar counter. I raise an eyebrow as Kira abruptly stops talking.

'Not going to drop like a rock are ye?'
25 Jun 2023, 2:30am
’Not going to drop like a rock are ye?'

“I don’t… I just haven’t slept well for… too long. It’s probably showing in more ways than one.”

Only a partial lie, as I hadn’t been able to sleep particularly well for a while, but it hadn’t stopped me from functioning at a basic level, at least.

It all seemed to catch up with me now, between said lack of sleep, the stress of the last few weeks, and the slightly imperfect integration of the implants into my body. And my cortical implant was reacting rather negatively to it, starting with a light headache coming

‘Damn it, not now.’, I thought, and reached for a pouch on my back, close to where I kept my combat knife. But it was empty.

“Damn, where did I put…. shit, forgot it on the ship.” I looked at Silvia. “I need to go get something. I’ll be back later, or tomorrow if I’m too tired. Later!”

I quickly hopped off the bar stool and headed out of the bar, but only got as far as the first set of stairs, before I was hit with a strong enough surge of pain that it outright knocked me unconscious, already unaware when I landed on my side.
25 Jun 2023, 2:43am
Seeing Kira hit the deck harder than one would find reasonable I rush over to her.

'Shit! Kasumi!'

I think quickly about what to do then think that Kira probably wouldn't like to be admitted to the hospital so I pick her up and carry her into the room in the back.

'Melli. Be nice to her. Not sure what happened but she can't go to the hospital. She was talking about exhaustion so I think she literally passed out from sleep deprivation.'

Melli jolts at my sudden presence and drops the rabbit toy she was holding in her mouth. She looks at Kira curiously and chatters a bit.

ok strange lady can stay.

I lay Kira down on the bed and check over her vitals not finding anything out of the ordinary. I decide to leave her in the room for a short bit and will check back in on her after a bit to see if she is doing ok.
25 Jun 2023, 12:23pm
I woke up to a pounding headache after… how much time had passed? I couldn’t tell, but it mattered to me less than the unbearable pain in my head. And the reason why I had it, passing out from the implant having a negative reaction to my physical state.

I didn’t bother getting up and rolled around in a bed, not knowing how I got to it. Trying to sleep further turned out to be futile, so I instead sat upright slowly, pulling my knees up to chest level, and looked at where I was, after ensuring my hood still sat on.

Lights were somewhat dim, probably to let me sleep. Pet toys were scattered a little all over the place, some in a better state than others, with Silvia’s fox-hybrid laid on its back, paws sprawled out, a toy on the belly. Hard to tell whether KO’d from playing, or just momentarily inactive. One of the toys had also found its way to behind me on the bed, somehow.

I couldn’t do much while this headache wore off, so I stayed in my curled up pose, and held both of my hands to my head, keeping my eyes closed to block out the light. It likely wouldn’t keep the pain at bay, but at least it helped a little. And I wasn’t in the station’s medbay, sparing me from all kinds of uncomfortable questions about my implants.

Ridge stepped out of the elevator. At the same time Dell, another team leader, stepped out of the next elevator.

"Hay dell, your team sick today?"

"Yep, sick of this meal tokens bullshit. How longs your team gonna be sick Ridge?"

"Few hours I guess. Can't drink coz we should be on EVA duty today. Jannel and her team are covering me, can't be making her do all our work so we can stuff our faces. Gotta let her'n her team in on this"

"Yep, same here but we can stay sick longer. We're on clean up duty, and my team can do that pissed out of our skulls. Hard luck pulling EVAs Ridge, see you at the buffet.

The two big men started walking faster pretending they were not rushing to get the to free food first. From behind they looked like a pair of hot air balloons in a dodgems race. Their teams followed behind, trying to look like they were not with those guys.
25 Jun 2023, 4:07pm
Caterers rushed around in an attempt to get everything ready for the workers event. 4 long buffet bars were already set up with some of the most popular dishes from around the world. Two of the catering staff approached the bar to let me know if the status.

'Ok so we have all of the food prepared for the first round. As guests start eating we will have the food stocked and filled. Once the event is completed what would you like us to do with the food.'

I think for a moment the respond to the taker man who had been speaking.

'We will offer it up to the workers then whatever is left we can donate to one of the rescue ships.'

The catering crew agrees to the terms and head back to the buffet area as the first few guests begin to trickle in. Workers rush to the buffet and pile their plates with food. The meal tickets weren't providing the best food and the was obvious with how these workers faces looked when they saw the food.

I took a quick moment to slip into the back room to check in on Kira. I knock lightly before entering so as to not panic her. I enter to see Melli still on her back and Kira in a curled position on the bed. I chose the for softly behind me to keep the noise from the now busy bar out.

'Hey. Looks like you have a migraine. Anything you need?'

Silvia Sharpe'Hey. Looks like you have a migraine. Anything you need?'

I took my right hand off my head to look at Silvia, keeping the left on its side, eyes still closed.

"Painkiller. Please. Strong. Then talk. Can't... think... like this."

Those were the only words I managed before I covered my face again. I had to be looking miserable, and didn't want to show it.
25 Jun 2023, 4:46pm
I rush over to my suitcase and pull out a pain inhibitor pen. I head back to Kira.

'Slight jab then give it a few seconds to kick in.'

I place the pen on kira's thigh and press down firmly. I count down in my head 10 seconds then release the pressure.

'That should remove any pain you feel for a while. Combat grade pain killers ya know? Except none of the weird groggy side effects. I have to head back out to the bar to keep an eye on things. Take your time and when you are ready you can join us. Though there will be music and a business to the bar she in part to the event.'

I leave the inhibitor, which has enough charge left in it for one more injection, next to Kira. I step back out into the bar and close the door behind me slowly. I make my way around the bar and offer drinks to anyone who is able. For those who are unfortunately still having to return to work I ask what they would like instead of alcohol.
