General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

Isaiah sat down and placed his hands on the table, knowing better than to try and conceal them from her. His eyes surveyed the bar around him.

"Barron's Head. I typically try to avoid the harder stuff when I'm under duress." He managed a smirk, sitting back in his seat and trying to relax. This was no place for theatrics, and as long as there were people around, he presumed Lilith wouldn't try anything violent.

Then again, he recalled to mind how she'd apparently gotten into this mess in the first place.

"So what are you exactly? Pirate? Smuggler? One of those adrenaline junkies that likes blowing up traders for fun? Lot of those guys running around these days."
26 Nov 2016, 6:39am
Grabbing the attention of a passing barmaid, Lilith ordered a bottle of Barrons Head and two glasses. Sitting herself down opposite the man, she simply pulled her pistol out, and placed it on the table, followed by the knife inside her boot, and the one inside her arm sleeve. Then slid them over towards the wall so they were within arms reach, but not without giving the man enough time to react.

"Now you." She said, as the waitress turned up with the order.
26 Nov 2016, 6:59am
Isaiah reached into his waistband slowly, withdrawing the handgun from its holster. He was half-tempted to point it at her and start making demands - and had he been the man he was a few years prior, he might have. But now he was simply too tired to care. He had nothing to prove and there was little chance of them crossing paths once this ordeal was over.

He placed the gun on the table and scooted it over with the other accouterments.

"If we're drinking, we're talking," he said. "And you didn't answer my question."
26 Nov 2016, 12:35pm
"No... I didn't..." Lilith smiled as she poured herself a drink. "But you decided it was obvious who you really were. So maybe I should just say it's obvious what I do?"

She rubbed her gloved hand round her glass and pushed the bottle into the middle of the table with her other.

"You pretended you had just arrived, we established that was a lie. You pretended to be alone, although you did admit that one to me. Either way, you're name isn't Micah. I've been honest with you so far, care to return the favour before I pick your name and you become either 'Mickey' or 'Bunty' to me forever?" She elongated the last word sarcastically.

Downing her drink she leaned back into the booth seat expectantly. This hadn't been how she'd envisioned her day going, but she'd enjoy it while she could.

"Rest assured, I'm not an adrenaline junkie as you put it. In fact, I'm not a junkie of any sort. As for anything else, I'm sure my bounties ought to speak for themselves, why not give your accomplice something to do?" She finished.
26 Nov 2016, 1:38pm
Isaiah glanced up at the back wall of the bar and smirked, the black spherical camera shroud giving Bloodfeather a clear picture of the room.

"Didn't you say something about appearances being deceiving?" He shrugged his shoulders and turned his eyes back to her. "Fine. You want me to be honest with you." He took the bottle of beer from the center of the table and poured a glass for himself. "It's Isaiah. And my ship knows all your sins. She could have notified the authorities a while back and taken care of this whole ordeal before now, but I'm thinking you're open to reason. She seems to think so too."

He took a swig from the glass, licked his lips, and continued. "Like I said, lady. I didn't come here with the express intention of hunting criminals. Not really a good way to unwind." The smirk on his face widened slightly. "Then again, I wasn't expecting to find myself on a date either."

His demeanor shifted to something more serious. "So now that I've come clean, down to business. What's Glaboski got that he wants back so badly? Or is that need-to-know information? Because he seemed pretty fucking desperate to get you back - not just whatever you took, you. So what's the deal there?"

Lilith looked at her now empty half-pint glass and the bottle that Isaiah had now emptied.

"If this is a date, you must be paying. I'm old fashioned like that you see." The statement reeking of sarcasm, "Speaking of which... I think more than one of these is needed..." She added, waving down a barmaid and requesting a bottle for each of them this time. All the while, considering just what she was willing to tell him.

"Let's get one thing straight, I don't trust you, and you don't trust me either. If you do, you're an idiot, and I don't tolerate stupid." She said sternly, "What I have on Glaboski, I'm keeping to myself. Let's just say his hobbies are morally questionable and he'd rather they didn't come into public view."

The bottles arrived and she took a swig from her own one, leaving the other in the middle for when Isaiah finished before continuing.

"And before you get any ideas... No, I don't have the data on me. Undoubtedly you will conclude it's on my ship but you will be hard pressed to find it before one of my ah... security devices shall we say? Before one of those has your fingers, or worse..." She smiled at him across the table.
26 Nov 2016, 2:29pm
"I suppose it's only fair to spend some of that advanced payment on drinks." He tipped his bottle to her and smiled. "Bet you weren't expecting that."

"So Glaboski's got skeletons in his closet. Figured as much. Something didn't seem right about him." He glanced off to the side, thinking.

Get on the right side of this. She's not the person you need to be worried about.

"Alright, here's how I see it. We're both in positions we don't really want to be in right now. You want off this station with that information. I want to go back to relaxing and trying not to end up on the business end of a gun. We both know Glaboski's not quite what he seems to be."

He shifted slightly in his seat and retrieved the drones from his trouser pocket, setting them down on the table. "I'm willing to look the other way on your misdeeds if it means figuring out what he's up to, because it seems to me that he's got nothing good going on." He tapped the case to emphasize his point. "Trust isn't necessary for two people to cooperate if it means taking down a common adversary. If I don't bring you in, Glaboski's likely gonna send people after me. So... the question is, how do you want to play this? I have a few ideas of my own if you don't."
26 Nov 2016, 3:03pm
"Such a charmer, aren't you." Lilith said blandly, swigging from her bottle again, "Believe me, skeletons would be better to deal with than Glaboskis... Well... You get what I mean."

She tensed as Isaiah retrieved something from his pocket, but relaxed when he revealed it to be a set of minature drones.

"Before you tell me your idea, give me a moment." Lilith said, standing abrubtly, "Stay here... I'll be right back." With that, she walked over to the bar.

Muninn looked down at the sleek man in black and addressed him. "I'm Lieutenant Muninn Jotten, commander of Skojdr. Tove here is the Earl of the Svinfylking. Strykers done nothing wrong, Tove is just overly friendly and I once helped Stryker fix a Federal ship. I'm an engineer myself you see. Well was." Muninn looked down at his own outfit, glad he went for the grey, ripped t-shirt, tight fitting jeans and a hugging leather jacket. Feet clad in black boots. He tried his best to mask his Imperial accent with elements of the accent Heathen sported, the one Tove spoke in.

Tove nodded and smiled. "I'm just so interested in what modifications Muninn made, and I wanted a attestation to his work."
26 Nov 2016, 3:21pm
He quirked an eyebrow at Lilith's sudden departure. Being left alone at the table, his eyes wandered to the weapons at the corner of the table.

I could turn the tide right now if I wanted to.

But he didn't. Not necessarily because he didn't want to, but because he understood there was a bigger picture to consider - one that could have potentially held dire consequences for both of them. What had started out as mere curiosity, spurred on by a sense of right and wrong, now led him to consider the possibility that helping her made more sense than trying to claim her bounty.

After all, it hadn't been that long ago since he had a sizable bounty on his head for things beyond his control.

"Blood, do you have access to that Dr. Glaboski's personal files?" he asked.

"No. I can't find it on the station network. It's probably isolated."

"Can you pull up any information about him? Education, employment history, area of expertise?"

"I would have done that an hour ago, but someone doesn't like it when I take liberties." Bloodfeather sighed. "I'll look into his background and see if I can find anything. It may take a bit though."

"You're a fine piece of kit, Blood."

"Yeah, yeah. I'll get back to you."
26 Nov 2016, 3:52pm
Lilith knew that by leaving her weapons by Isaiah was, by all means, stupid. But she was trusting that he still believed there were people here that would jump to her defence. Reaching the bar, she looked around for something she could use, finding a tub of salt packets she ordered two shots of Old Sol.

Carefully concealing her movements from everyone and everything around her she pulled a small silver canister from her pocket. Inside was a small volume of white powder, poison to be specific, which she poured into the sink behind the bar, replacing it with the salt and reinserting it into her pocket.

With that she returned to the table and placed the two glasses in front of her. She then pulled the canister out of her pocket and made a show of visibly pouring it into one of the glasses. Once she was done, she slid the glass over to Isaiah with a smile with just two words.

"Drink it."

There was know way for him to know it was salt. As far as he was aware, she had brazenly poured poison into his glass and was now making him take it. The blatantness of it could give it away, or it could be a double bluff. Either way, she waited.
26 Nov 2016, 8:28pm
Isaiah's eyes went from the shot glass, to Lilith, then back to the shot glass. What on earth did she just put into that glass?

He knew better than to trust her - and maybe this was one way of getting rid of him without making a scene. Then again, if she'd really wanted him dead, she could have just shot him in the elevator. He was a liability to her for every step beyond the lift.

This is a bad idea to take drinks with strange things from stranger people. But it's not like you have many other options.

He reached for the glass, not breaking eye contact with her as he did so. Touching his lips to the rim of the glass, he downed the shot in one go...

... and then promptly began swearing.

"Fucking hell, what the shit did you put in my drink? Was that salt?!" His face twisted in disgust, tongue out. "What the hell, lady?"
26 Nov 2016, 9:46pm
Lilith clapped her hands slowly, howling with laughter.

"Oh my god.... You ACTUALLY DID IT!!!" She cried, tears streaming from her eyes as she fought to regain her stern composure. "I can't believe you actually fucking did it!!"

She regained control but a large grin remained on her face, the first actual smile she'd had since destroying the security drone earlier. Sliding the other glass across to Isaiah she wiped another tear from her eye.

"For the taste, I promise this one's clean." She said cheerfully and then shifted into a slightly more serious tone.

Dipping her hand into her inside pocket, she retrieved another silver canister, no bigger than an earplug and slid it next to the glass she'd just given Isaiah.

"Have your accomplice test that if you can. You watched me pour something into your glass... Me.... A total stranger... A wanted criminal as you so eloquently put it. It could have been salt, or it could have been what's in that canister there. But you drank it anyway. I didn't threaten you, or coerce you. You could have threw it in my face, or made a play for your gun, but you drank it." Part of her was enjoying the level of control she had just exacted over him.

"As a result, you could, right now, be twitching on the floor, choking on your own vomit. But you aren't. Why? Because you, or some part of you, trusted me." She emphasised very clearly the last two words. "Next time you say trust isn't needed to cooperate, just remember this moment. You got Salt, not Cyanide. Aftertaste, not Arsenic... I have more, but you get the idea."

She let the words settle in for a moment.

"I feel I have established you can trust me. For this plan of yours at least." Her voice was now more severe, but she continued with more of a snarl when she added, "DO NOT make me regret trusting you in this scheme of yours. Or next time, you won't see me put anything in your drink. It will just suddenly be there and you'll be none the wiser until you're staring at the ceiling. Are... We... Clear?"

With that, she leaned back, downed the rest of her beer and folded her arms.
26 Nov 2016, 10:05pm
"Very funny," Isaiah deadpanned, rolling his eyes and downing the clean shot of Old Sol, thankful that it was actually scotch and not the godawful stuff he'd just downed. "And yeah, we're clear."

"You're right though. I could have done a lot of things differently. But I think you have a lot of ideas about me, most of which are wrong." He studied the canister she'd slid over, continuing. "Yeah, I'm a bounty hunter. Of sorts. But I wasn't always a bounty hunter. It's not my first choice of profession." He peered back up at her for a moment. "You could've put me down in the lift. I had to assume that if you wanted me dead, you would've already done it."

"Besides," he added, "my accomplice has an insurance policy: a collated list of all your bounties that could be released on the station's bulletin services. And with that busted ship of yours..." Isaiah clicked his tongue. "Let's just keep things moving along as swimmingly as possible, yeah? I prefer mutual understanding to coercion."

He took another swig of his beer to clear his palette, turning the canister over and over between his fingers. "Something Glaboski gave you or something you picked up yourself?"
26 Nov 2016, 10:30pm
"I don't kill people without good reason. Simple as that." Lilith replied coldly, "And if the only reason you drank that stuff was because you had a retaliation plan then this scheme of yours, whatever it is, will end up with one or both of us in a coffin."

She considered the rest of his statement before replying simply.

"You might not always have been a bounty hunter, you might not enjoy it. But the point is, you tracked me because you were hunting a bounty. I couldn't give a damn about the rest." Feeling her point was made, she sighed before adding, "Nonetheless, I agree. Butting heads won't get either of us anywhere. But I still want you to take heed of the point I juat made."

Watching him twirl the canister between his fingers she responded to his inquiry plainly.

"Something I picked up just in case a while back. It's nothing special, easy to get if you know where to look." She picked up one of the drones and examined it, before continuing, "So... About this plan of yours?"
