SakashiroI hate engineering!
It is definitely a design choice. I think I have 2 ways of looking at that, charitable and uncharitable.
Charitable: FDev is designing a game for an older, more mature audience and therefore, engineering provides a more strategic element to what would otherwise become a game mechanic of twitch reflexes which favors a younger audience.
Uncharitable: Think about how much grind was added to the game by the introduction of engineering. Mats gathering, engineer unlocks, module improvements across almost all ships, etc. If Grind effectively substitutes for player engagement, FDev added many weeks worth of engagement with the addition of engineering.

Oh really? Krait and Python or Krait and Cutter? One was me trying to get to my friend who was already fighting someone else and the other time I noticed my own weapons being used against me which wouldn't have gone too well.
