Elite: General talk

I don’t think Elite is too intensive on the RAM(though I also have two 16GB RAM sticks in there, so that’s a thing, and I don’t run 4K, which probably also plays into matters), more heavy on the GPU/CPU side. Not that it changes the point…

Kasumi Goto...though I also have two 16GB RAM sticks in there...

Yea this thing only has a singular 8GB RAM and I can only use 7.78GB of it ;u;

I'm not tech-versed enough to know just how bad of a CPU/GPU this has because a lot of it sounds like technical jargon to me

It doesn't even tell me what the GPU in this is I don't think, but the CPU is listed as "11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1135G7 @ 2.40GHz"

I’m not hugely into the stuff either(just enough that I can assemble a PC and know what goes where, if I have the prebuilt components available), but the GPU is just the graphics card. EG it is likely a Nividia GTX/RTX card, or some AMD card which I don’t know/recall any particular intricacies of, for the naming.

It’s also possible your laptop only has ‘integrated graphics’ present on the CPU itself. Though, given that your model sounds pretty old, it’s not too likely. You can install third-party hardware monitor programs to figure out more details on what’s in your device. There’s a few safe ones out and about on the internet.

Mkay, did end up locating it, despite my ignorance of PC tech

GPU is Intel iRISxe, though not sure what iteration

Kasumi GotoI had to run Odyssey with FSR enabled to get 60 FPS on my GTX1060 of my old PC prior to the upgrade, though, so it looked a bit garbage. Which is beside the point, but I never contributed to any real discoveries in the 3.8 version of the game.

Speaking of which, how badly optimized is the PC version? I can neither afford nor physically have the space to install a computer right now and I can barely run TF2 on low graphics on my laptop, so I've just kept ED in my Steam wishlist and not even bothered buying it at the moment.

I've been running this game with decent FPS and settings with a 5600X and a second hand GTX 1080Ti, it is not that much demanding compared to some games like DCS for example.

The thing is, I always make sure I have (very) good RAM kits fitted, namely 4 X 8 GB GSkill 3200 MHz, that's the most expensive bit but the benefits are obvious, your CPU will never throttle down under load because its controller have reached its limitation, in which case, it will reduce the channels bandwidth and its own frequency.

Typical CPU Controller limits are 3200MHz (3600 with B.Die), 4 X banks, out of those limits the Controller will throttle down, best configuration is 4 X 8GB, B.Die (1 bank per stick), 3200 or 3600MHz as I am using now (the 3200 Mhz is designed to be easily OC.ed to 3600MHz).

The best thing is, you can use the same kit with a Ryzen 7 5800XD with the same results, this is due to the low latency provided by the RAM range of timing, impossible with another kind of RAM (BDie).

A second hand mid range well put together would run this game nicely for you, just remember to fit the right RAM, even if not B.Die, it's the CPU Controller which limits it.

This is the gain I achieved in 3DMark Pro with a Ryzen 7 5800XD before I upgraded the GPU from the 1080Ti, now I run an RX 7900 XTX and this system is damn fast.

Back to Robigo Mines. This time I'm grinding the Carrier budget and have been topping up Tritium a bit, shot a few pirates etc...

If one need a lift to Colonia, send me an in-game Friend Request and MSM, we will arrange a schedule for departure:

There are 45 Carrier jumps from Wolf 363, you must login in Solo mode for the transportation before docking.

Cool down is 5 mn, it takes another 15 to jump, What I do during this time is topping up the tank (transfer from Stock) and take a hike in a few systems that I honk, this is good for data resell to Universal Cartographics, you could do the same, only different systems.

After 5mn of exploration, back on the Carrier, I plan the next jump, and wait, obviously I'm not gonna do 45 jumps in one go, I'll take breaks, so if you're in a rush and want to race to Colonia, take your Anaconda, on the other hand, if you want me to transport your T9 with cargo or other ship, that's a cool solution.

madamepestilenceHonestly though, it's upsetting.. I pioneered the path to the first discovery of some of the systems wayyyy down there and got them logged onto EDSM

Most people go horizontal, but I was doing vertical travel since the heatmaps show most people only go slightly above or below the galactic plane for neutron highways

Honestly, random unrelated thing, if there happens to be anyone left doing Trade on the Playstation platform, there's a good trade route between LHS 6309 Fontana Horizons [Sell Gallite, Buy Cobalt] and G 180-18 Hale Port [Sell Cobalt, Buy Gallite] and I unofficially operate out of Zlotrimi, I wouldn't mind company

Though, considering I've only seen one human (momentarily) since April 3, and I've solo surpassed Earth Defense Force, Omega Merchant Command, Aislings Angels, The Raxxla Initiative, Pilot Syndicate 4 and am creeping up on surpassing the Pilots Trade Network Squadron and Galactic Trade Corporation at 78/576 in Trade, and there's a 3 day old Squadron I recognize currently in slot 51, I don't have much hope ):

So I found your PSR system in Live, alongside a bunch of similarly named neutron stars… about 11,800 light years below galactic plane in Hawking’s Gap, in a cluster that no one could possibly reach with legitimate means offered in the game. Are you absolutely sure that you actually visited it, and not one of the more conveniently located PSR systems that are conventionally reachable?

There’s also two more that are 14,288 light years below the galactic plane. I’m really asking myself what they’re down there for - they have no associated ‘HIP’, ‘HD’ or similar tag, but I feel like it’s a bit odd for procedural generation to just go and say ‘Yep, let me go and place that where no one’ll ever be able to reach it’. (Yeah, it is hand-placed, using a pulsar catalogue.)

I'm 99% sure that I traveled there in a heavily engineered, stripped and hollowed-out Asp Explorer using manual star targeting and neutron star boosting

I used to have a screenshot of the galaxy from far below the galactic plane, but unfortunately I don't think the image exists anymore as it was on an old account I don't have access to anymore, and the only other place it was present was in a PS4 Community - and those got phased out and no longer exist for some reason

I used this navigation method when the Fleet Carrier Router ran out of data, I never used Neutron star boosting though....

Honestly? Regardless of whether or not I'm remembering correctly, I think it'd be nice to see the galaxy from down there again

It's a gorgeous view

Not all hand-placed stars are in Hipparcos or HD catalogues, and pulsars are particularly unlikely to be in either — those catalogues are for regular stars.

I’m 99.9% sure you’re mistaken. Either it was a system closer to the galactic plane, or you got magically transported there by FDev, or you never were there in the first place.

FDev did one time do an event where people were offered to get magically transported to some inaccessible system far beyond the galactic plane, where they’d have to self-destruct after taking screenshots as there was no way to return. I don’t remember the details now, but AFAIR someone abused it (tricked support staff to be transported back so as to claim first discoveries, IIRC), so FDev said they won’t be doing it ever again.

OK. I'm pretty much done with preparation.

I'll be departing Wolf 363 tomorrow at 19.00 GMT, if anyone wants a lift it's time to say...

Hi! Charles de Gaulle (H4M-33Y) will be leaving for Colonia at 19.00 from Wolf 363. If you want a lift, there still is time.

Another history nerd, I see. I should have read that post more closely…
