Elite: General talk

ZentzlbWell it sounds like you dont know too much about gankers or what happened with CODE. But keep it up, its always nice when someone advertises their ignorance in such a public way.

"There are plenty who say they do so but only camouflage their selfish needs to dominate others due to their inadequacies in RL." Yes, all gankers are sociopaths and terrible people IRL. The only solution is playing in solo mode. You hit the nail on the head bud.

Nah, I'll play in any Mode I deem fit, thats what this game allows me and that's what I'll do. And regarding advertising ignorance you do have quite the experience yourself from what one could read. Plus some little lie about you not being part of The Code and some stuff that you can't leave them or are still showing in their Roster and so forth. I mean you could at least put some effort into things like that now and then

ZentzlbYou are kind of missing the point of this game.

That single sentence fits on you more then anyone. And with that I'll move on to greener pastures. Sayonara.

RotwhylrMany gankers may in fact be nice people IRL who are dedicated to exploring and learning and even teaching an underappreciated part of the game.

Regardless, gankers who attack noobs are shitting where they (and by extension the rest of us) play.

The future of the game depends on new players and continued investment. Game servers are not free. Patches and updates and new content are not free. Without new and enthusiastic players coming in, the lights will go off sooner rather than later.

Go placidly among the noise and haste, and remember what peace may be had by letting others be wrong on the Internet.

Interesting concept; Try it with GravityWulf maybe? I know they're active on PS4 but I don't know about other platforms.

I can assure you that Elite has zero problem attracting players at the moment, considering the insane amount of rescues the Fuel Rats are currently undertaking. The number of cases skyrocketed during the weekend by almost 700%.

The next big money injection for Elite will come from Odyssey and they have a more or less steady stream of revenue with their microtransactions. Apart from that FDev does have a couple of other projects to rely on and are afaik not in a bad spot businesswise, even in the current pandemic.

Gankers are made out to be a much bigger problem than they actually are.

Hmm.  Not surprised to see Fuel Rat calls skyrocket after Epic gave the game away for free.

I'm not trying to quibble over the servers thing.  My larger point is that the continued life of the game itself depends on two things - new game sales + ARX sales.  First they have to bring customers in, then they have to keep them.  When that stops, the game stops.  First there's no new content.  Then there's no new fixes.  Eventually "Can't connect to Frontier servers" becomes a permanent error.

I don't know the arrangement between Epic and FDEV, whether Epic bought licenses from FDEV and then gave them away, or whether FDEV gave the licenses to Epic.  My guess is somewhere in the middle - FDEV probably sold heavily discounted licenses to Epic as part of a marketing blitz, and Epic probably gave those away as a loss leader. However it happened, the obvious reason is to drive up the number of users who will later pay for the upgrade to Odyssey when it comes out, and who will hopefully buy ARX.  By driving off new players, the noob-killing community is undermining the game.

Edit:  Microtransactions?  I hadn't seen anything on those.  Do you mean ARX for cosmetic stuff, or something else?

It was expected. It just came a little harder than expected.

I assume that Frontier either sold the keys in bulk or that Epic is paying a heavily discounted price per claimed key to FDev. Either way it's a good way for Epic and FDev to get new users, which is exactly what they intend.

As for the Gankers, I think you overestimate how many noobs actually come in contact with the gankers and how much of those that do actually stop playing the game in response. Quitting a game after getting killed once would be an absolute kneejerk reaction and I doubt that many players think that way. Getting killed twice is pretty unlikely with the volume of new players and the amount of instances as a result of that around and in the starter systems. Additionally to that, only a part of the newer players will actually go straight to open and I assume that a good part of those that do, full well knows that they might get killed by a player.

The entire Ganker problematic is blown out of proportion by a lot.

I have a question for all the people complaining about gankers killing people and what not, and ignoring that they teach new players not to stick around in populated areas without a proper ship.

Why dont YOU do something about it.

Make a PvP build, go to starter systems or hotspots, start defending people.

There's a Squadron called the Insane Clown Posse Rejects that does that actually, it's hilarious watching them bicker with gankers in system chat while you're just trying to do trade or whatnot

I've literally seen griefers and gankers use this exact argument in Shinrarta Dezhra, Engineering systems, and CG zones.

Well, for starters you have the catch-22 that the gankers tend to hang out in the very systems that noobs need to go to in order to build a "proper ship".  Also, at the point that a noob has invested time, effort, credits, and materials into buying and building and engineering a "proper ship", I don't think I would call them a noob.  Still plenty green, but they should be savvy enough by then that I wouldn't worry about them catching a gank.

As was ArtifactHunter mentioned, yeah, there are people who defend noobs.  But you know what? It's not my job to go fix every broken thing out there.

Serious question: what is the fun in seal-clubbing?  Why build a finely tuned and exhaustively engineered FDL, master FA-off, etc, and then attack players with nowhere near the means or knowledge to pose even a remote threat?
