What do they do in squadrons?
I mean, I know some are anti-xeno groups...but what do the rest do?
Do they get together and battle other groups, or patrol the perimeter...what do they do when they get together?

That depends on the Squadron, I guess. I advise checking the Squadron resource here on Inara. Each Squadron has a brief description of it’s aims and activities so you can find those which match your preferred activities.
Some things are better in Squad teams, like bounty hunting, engineers unlocks, even exploration and mining are more fun as a group. Then BGS activities are a big thing with some Squadrons, others align themselves with Power Play leaders, some welcome role play.
Whatever your game preference is, I’ll bet there’s a Squadron out there you’ll fit right in.

I was all happy that I had today off.

Ten minutes in I get a notice that servers are going down for routine maint.

Yuna SakashiroHotfix 3 for update 10 to client 4.0.
They always catch me when I take a day off. I had dreams of binge-flying all day. Mini-fridge was all packed, fresh bag of edibles...I was all set until that alert flashed across my screen. Oddly, the message first appeared not in my comms panel...but displayed over my fuel gauge.
