Elite: General talk
26 Nov 2020, 6:25am
This pointless discussion started with the recent seal clubbing event. Which is mainly because the game, again by design, do not give specific knowledge to new players. They are thrown in open with limited knowledge, by design.
Apart from that, PvP players want different stuff than PvE players and again the game gives tools for each its own by design.
Just play your way and learn. It is a game after all, enjoy.
P. S. Ah, look Isaiah showed up.
Edit: this message was about what Renraiku said.

Whose armour is the whitest? Who is the nastiest killer? Who dares to play in Open? Who stays safe in Solo? Who does unspeakable things in... group?
Such a wonderful time, indulging in such mockery! Now I'll sit back, grab some popcorn, and wait for that inevitable unholy r-mistake that people eventually do. Then all sides will unite to beatdown the offender, and that will be that for a time.
...until the next bloodletting, then the fun starts all over again. HA HA HA!

This is not how things go here. This site is a Dictatorship as soon as Supreme ruler decides that the discussion went beyond his tolerance - posts will be deleted and even some will get striped from access.

EpisparhThis is pretty much true. The game is what is by design. At some places with security the authorities can be evaded by knowledge and then again an offense by lawless player can be evedad with knowledge and having a properly build ship.

Good points in those first few sentences.
The discussion is not pointless, the reason i am in this discussion is to attempt to debunk the erroneous opinion that all gankers are bad in game and/or real life and are ruining the game for others and attempt to enlighten those that don't know or are not sure about the things discussed.
All PvP Players also PvE whether they like it or not. I for one do both and enjoy both, however I do not whinge about what someone else did in game nor do I whinge if I get eaten by the bigger dog.

There was mention of a PvP flag earlier, but a lot of the folks taking about it have missed that the PvP flag is already in the game and working as intended.
Choosing Open flags you for PvP. You accept all consequences that playing with other players entails. That fact that people don't like this doesn't make it any less true.
If you want to fly in a friendly universe where you see other players without worry of getting ganked by them (mostly), that is literally what Private Group is for. It's not hard to find the larger ones. Hell, Mobius is still a thing, as far as I know.

Just thank the makers that Elite doesn't have an equivalent to the Oppressor MK2, 'aight? Even a Type-7 can evade an attacker if the person knows what they are doing.

Wait a minute how playing a ganker makes you not bad in game? I will not comment on RL as I already said, this rise some flags but this is not enough for any conclusion without a full context.

"Bad" is a point of view, even in game.
A short while ago we in Loren's Reapers lost our faction's home system because a bunch of do-gooding players didn't like 1) Phisto, and 2) anarchy factions-- so they attacked us and removed the only source of Federal and Alliance ships in all of Colonia.
They think that we are bad people and need to be attacked in-game for existing. We think that they're a bunch of self-righteous moralizer hypocrites who ran roughshod over the Colonia community.
So who's right?

If your definition is destroying a commander that is not an equal with you then every fight you win is a gank. some people believe this.
If you believe that ganking is only clubbing noobs, then this is not the best thing to happen to a new player and I don't condone it but I won't tell them how to play.
If you believe ganking is ganging up on a single player as multiple enemies, well this requires more definition, what was the reason for this action?
there are obviously more definitions but I don't have them all at hand.
Once you have defined it let me know and then I can answer you with specific examples in context.

He wishes my toon well being by destroying me and reducing my game balance and some progress I did? How is that good for the offended one?

For the 'pro-gankers' here - what do you get from ganking? Is it just a 'fun' thing to do? Is it breast-beating? Am really curious.

Btw, after yesterday's livestream with Cow and the Pilot, I was wondering, what's the big deal with combat logging? I know task killing is a terms of service violation; I'm talking about c-logging via menu, with the cooldown. I hear people say that it's a cowardly thing to do, but why? If someone is in a cardboard ship and realizes they have zero chance to survive a confrontation, why are you expecting them to bend over and take it in the rear? It seems a tiny bit hypocritical to me when gankers demand not to be judged by their playstyle choice but then judge c-loggers as cowards. Certainly we can agree that c-logging is no more cowardly than seal clubbing and no more immersion-breaking than pressing Ctrl-B, no?

EpisparhWell, perhaps I was not right to use ganker at first place to avoid nuances. What I actually meant is how exactly a person who attacks me unprovoked is not bad in game terms?
He wishes my toon well being by destroying me and reducing my game balance and some progress I did? How is that good for the offended one?
Not always. I got attacked by a pirate trying to steal 15t of painite from me last week. I try to not fly a total tin can so i managed to get away before he could drop my shields.
I sure did not provoke him, but he provided me with some excitement and i wouldnt consider him to be a "bad" player. Just a pirate guy.
