Nothing like coffee ads to help with immersion when using inara radio...

May or may not have SPOILERS.

CC one of my favorite anon youtubers that highlight these kids of things in their vids.

I'm also hours in and haven't run into anything earth shattering.

I find the lore of the Cyberpunk RPG series very appealing. Probably lends itself well to fanfiction, too. Elite's lore is a bit shallow on topics other than space travel, for obvious reasons.

IMO, Elite's lore is rather shallow even on that, & as for the rest, there's next to nothing.

Its appeal to me is that it seems to have made a great effort at remaining true to RL, trying to depict RL science in its portrayal of space with its huge distances & procedurally-generated celestial bodies in all of their forms, & its functions & reactions re: the way ships fly & handle.

IMO, there's no lore involved there. Aside from what GalNet has provided, from what I've seen so far, there's precious little E:D Lore available, other than a seemingly dystopian universe motivated & stemming from the basic premise of pew-pew.

Although I only ever heard about & encountered E:D ~1 year ago, I've seen a few descriptions & clips from the original Elite game, various wire-form ships pew-pewing.

All the comments involving the oft-repeated phrase including "...the name does say 'Dangerous'..." do nothing to dispel anything to the contrary.

The FDevs have done precious little to support the game, other than the basics of CODEX & GalNet; could you ever imagine trying to understand, play, let alone advance, in the game without all the myriad 3rd-party sites currently available?

Does anyone think that would be anywhere near as enjoyable, or even possible, without making doing so a RLifelong endeavor?

It took & takes various 3rd-party authors & artists to flesh out the Lore of E:D, trying to make it something more than merely pew-pew; the FDevs seem to ask & expect the players to subsist on "personal narrative". Thank the Gods for all the efforts by all the 3rd-party sites!

That so many 3rd-party sites exist shows to me 2 things: The glaring omissions on the part of the FDevs, & because of that, those sites are so desperately needed, then & now.

I think that Yamiks & Drew Wagar describe the issue well.

I'd argue that the piss-poor ability that half of this website has at creating character backstories that don't suck is a playerbase failure, not an FDev one.

Is it wise to insult those commanders that at least try to write their bio as best as they can, instead of ignoring it completely? Nobody is born as an excellent writer right from the start.

Alas, it seems you misunderstood what I wrote.

I wasn't criticizing any 3rd-party sites at all, including this one, which IMO if I'd only have & use 1 3rd-party site, it would be this 1.

What I was criticizing, was & is E:D's dearth of lore, & this Inara site isn't part of nor affiliated with E:D.

I think it's the lack of lore, and therefore the freedom to be creative, that attracted me to others' RP stories on Inara.

ED's lack of narrative is what steers everyone into creating their own story, so everyone is RPing to some extent.

Other games, with an already established storyline and created world, would feel very restrictive... with the lore anoraks jumping down your throat every time you tried to float an idea.

...but I love reading other people's stories on here, even the "piss-poor" ones or the lunatic ones that give you an aneurysm when you try to read them. It's all good fun.

This is the only 3rd party site I use.

Not at all. Pointing out a reality is different from telling people to stop trying.

I don't think that this website has anything to do with the quality of the Bios that those members who have chosen to write, have written.

Or not written.

Perhaps you might show us your example, rather than merely criticize...?

To make an attempt is, IMO, something more than to have made no attempt at all.

Jus' sayin'.

I appreciate how you say it doesn't matter, then immediately contradict yourself.
