Archon Delaine managed to be something worse than a slaving pirate lord.

He became a politician.

SakashiroI sort of miss the days when pirate leaders weren't CEOs and slavery didn't mean social security.

And again someone confuses Imperial slavery (which is a social security system) with the kind of slavery practiced everywhere else (and yes, that includes Fedneck wage slavery)...

And we are supposed to believe that colonists in the 23rd century chose monarchy/dictatorship without coercion.

"Democracy is so oppressive. Why don't we just allow some dude to become our emperor and rule over us? And let's create a superior social security system and call it 'slavery'. Those Fednecks will envy us!"

Well, admittedly the Federation played its role in that. Without that kind of pressure from outwards the Empire might have never formed as it did.

"We call it slavery because that's totally not what it is!"

Sakashirosome dude to become our emperor

That's only one of three possible scenarios.

a) it really was an accident (though the timing is suspiscous)
b) it was her brother
c) it were the Fednecks, trying to remove the leader of an anti-Federal movement so they could annex Achenar without any resistance.

That's another huge plot hole in Elite's lore.

"There are 400 billion star systems waiting for us to colonize them, but we'd rather wage war over one instead."

I mean, the star system itself wasn't the objective of the war. It was a war to back the Federations claim of being the sole (state) authority of humanity.

What do I favor? A system that only serves the wealthy and systematically represses it's own population to keep those in power where they are and prevent anyone from obtaining power who wasn't born to it? Or do I favor a system where if you can prove your worth you can rise above the position you were born in to a higher one? Better yet, do I really want to live in a place that is monitoring every single thing I say or do regardless of my criminal history or lack there of? Such hard questions, it's almost as if the questions are answering themselves.

Why are you okay with anyone exerting authority over you at all?

Me personally, in game I bow to no one. I travel where I want, pick up the jobs I want to work, and generally do as I please. In the real world it's not much different. However, if you do work for someone other than yourself, you have a boss who is in a position of authority over you. Look, you can be edgy all you want, but unless you live on your own private island there is always someone who is in a position of authority over you. Be that the city, state, province, or country. Besides all that, I've seen what places that are in total anarchy are like, those are places that nobody would want to live in.
