Ah! Understood. I get'cha.

Oh, I guess one can't kick arse in NMS as it's possible in E:D.

IMHO.

Watching a fleet of capital ships jump out of hyperspace right in front of you in NMS > Kicking arse in ED.

What is kicking ass in ED anyway? Successful ganking? Beating a CZ? Murdering an entire settlement?

I fell in love with NMS once I got Xbox Series and the game I initially dismissed after many hours as bad (it worked horribly on Xbox One and patches only worsened it), now it's almost-flawless experience.

Also I think one of the reason some people find NMS more appealing than ED nowadays is the fact that ED is a serious dystopia, which presents very similar problems to our own. It's a bit more romantic than gritty kind of universe, too.

The day NMS introduces Holo-Me-style character creation will be the day I say goodbye to ED. I can accept NMS's art direction, but the idea of roleplaying a genderless traveller with a helmet permanently glued to its head doesn't appeal to me.

...there is a character customization like that on NMS. Trick is, you need to repair the ship in the "prologue" then reach starport where you can access that (right hand direction when you leave your ship).

You will still be referred to as Anomaly(?) but I guess it comes from the story and I don't think it strays away from you being called Commander on ED.

But the helmet will still be glued to the head, won't it?

Only if you choose your appearance out of five "races" as Anomalies. Every race has its own unique customizable body parts, too.

It's one thing to be acclimated to that and another if it's just four weeks in summer and you have no AC

I really love the heat. That place in AZ was my most favorite to live. I am not a cold person whatsoever. Places like that with temperatures that rival the sun, AC is a must. However, in milder places, I've gotten used to getting through warm summers without ever needing to turn the AC on. I take it that you're getting a good dose of humidity as well?
