Ah, yes, the American Truck Simulator. While I own it myself my focus is on its older brother, Euro Truck Simulator 2.



No one wants to drive on your skewed Euro streets, Ama.


Driving 36t in a straight line is not really a challenge... but maneuvering 40t through small village roads? Now that requires skill

You can't learn to play ED from actual astronauts, but you can learn to play ATS/ETS2 from actual truckers. That's how realistic these games are. I remember learning to back a trailer from some redneck trucker's YouTube channel. And how to control speed without jackknifing when going downhill.

I prefer ATS because of the landscapes. Other than that it's really the same game as ETS2, with minor differences in traffic rules.

Awww man...it's not in VR.
I'd love to try it with my FF wheel. Right now my 0nly driving game is Project Cars (and that is dope) and a couple VR racers that don't use the wheel.

You should try Assetto Corsa. I play it in VR only with pedals and wheel set-up.

Strangely, although I have done lots of flying and driving in VR since 2016, I don't use ETS2 any more because one time it made me feel very sick (think it was my second or third trip). Weird, that. I reckon it may just be down to the graphics, either engine or real resolution. Didn't find out - just shelved it.

I find VR nausea to be caused by two main things: Framerate (they advise 90hz but I can get away with 60) and realism in either appearance or motion. It could have been your framerate was too low? If that wasn't the case the game could have been too realistic which can cause your brain to get sucked in and bypass any tolerances you've built up to VR gaming. One of the best ways to get around this is to have a fan gently blowing on your face. It helps your brain think it's actually moving which prevents the nausea response.

ETS2 and ATS are propably the best driving sims available. If I just want to relax I play one of them.

This is solid advice. Burstar recommended this to me a short while ago, I did it and it works.

WTF did they start you off with a broken ship? Do they realize how many people stop playing right there?
