Merge your 3.0 bindings with 4.0 bindings while waiting. This is nice free tool - MELD

They promised a Neil Armstrong moment, but I got a Frank Poole moment instead.

Dude that looks like a blast!

All credits goes to Sakashiro for bugging my SRV by crashing while trying to dock it in my ship.
The SRV was left levitating. More screenshot in my gallery.

I can't help but wonder if the new renderer is really worth the impact it has on performance...

Under less than ideal lighting conditions the results are surprisingly flat. There seems to be no ambient light bouncing off the cockpit interior at all; anything that isn't directly illuminated remains in total darkness, which explains why you can hardly see the cockpit in an Apex taxi during the flight.

RickchapI have a game question about Odyssey. I have an xbox and can not test or review yet but wondering about how the new game connects to Horizons? I am excited to use my own ship in the same universe and step out on planets. Are you PC folks having to start over again and use Apex for transportation?

Also if I am engineering a module X3 (thrusters) with a new engineer do I have to start over with the module to fain access to engineering 4 and 5? Palin wont touch my thrusters unless I reengineer them or buy a new module.

Thanks for your comments. Please continue the talk about Odyssey ...

We will be able to use our ships in Odyssey. Next two alpha test phases will allow us to buy ship and in the last one we will get all our assets from live server including Fleet Carriers.

About your engineering question technically Palin can continue upgrading your thrusters but only if you unlocked that engineering access with him. So if you have upgraded your thrusters elsewhere and just arrived at Palin you should try to use other module upgrades until you hit the required engineering grade that you need to continue your thruster's upgrades.

Thanks for the message back Epi. I am concerned that I will keep plugging away and when it comes to my time to play I will not have access to the work and start over on foot. I have every intention to get the game and want both worlds to merge. So I hope you are right about it.

As for the Palin question ... went ahead and bought an 8a thruster and brought it back. I was able to make two sets of thrusters (clean set and a dirty set). I may I say, wow Palin wanted a lot of materials to get it done. I was saying to myself Really?! Needless to say I will have to go material hunting again. Thanks again for your feedback.

When Odyssey goes live people with Horizons won't be able to instance with Odyssey players, just like you can't with PC and Playstation players. So there will be 6 flavour of ED players, and the 3 types of play open/private/solo. So a total of 18 ways to play! It'll be like when players didn't have Horizons couldn't land on planets or use an SRV.

Alpha testing is done using fresh accounts, but when it goes live we'll be using our existing accounts and ship/gear etc.

As for engineering modules, if you have a level 3 thruster but no rank with Palin your options are to either level him upto level 3 with something else, or re-engineer the thrusters (doing one roll of a different upgrade and then switching back to the one you originally had). If possible, get him to upgrade your FSD to level 3, then you should have enough rank to do 4 and 5 on your thrusters. You should then finish as level 5 with Palin. Don't forget to pin Dirty Drives with him.

Thanks for the reply. So I hear you say that Odyssey will be its own game and one can not merge the accounts? Thank you for the Palin information and I was able to figure him out ANd yes! book marking them!

RickchapSo I hear you say that Odyssey will be its own game and one can not merge the accounts?

No, she said we'll continue playing on our existing accounts and keep all our ships, achievements, etc. Only the alpha version is like a separate game, because it is meant to test (and potentially break) things. Once Odyssey gets released for everyone, our alpha accounts will be deleted.

One topic we need to talk about is abductions, because these seem to be a real thing in Odyssey. Last night Epi and I landed our Cobras on a planet. He then entered my ship, and I took off with him, leaving his ship behind on the surface. Epi then received a message about his ship being dismissed, probably because we went too far away from it, or because we entered supercruise. Curious about the consequences, I took him to a station where we disembarked. If I remember correctly (Epi please correct me if I get any details wrong), he then had no access to any of his ships, even the ones stored at the station! He had only two options: re-enter my ship, or book an Apex taxi. Since there were settlements on the planet where he left his Cobra, he was able to return there by taxi and recall his ship.

Now there is one catch: You can book Apex only to stations and settlements, but not to random places on a planet surface. This means that if there had been no settlements, Epi would have been unable to return by himself! He would have needed me or maybe some other player to take him back to where his ship was.

So there's a huge potential for abuse here, similar to the recent slave carrier issue. Technically, your pilot body does not exist independently, it is still tied to a specific ship, sort of like a SRV or SLF.

Today I will test if it's possible to disembark from my ship at one station, go to another station via Apex, and then pick up another of my ships there. It probably should be possible, but my current guess is that it is not.
