Elite: Odyssey

BurstarFPS in space isn't the issue (and it's while in atmo that it would become the problem ftr). The issue is as Saka has basically said: it has essentially been deemed too much effort for insufficient return by the FDev management. All the bs the CM's throw our way is to avoid admitting this.

And yet Braben said back in the kickstarter days that ships were already being modeled with their interiors in mind and mentioned some gameplay mechanics in mind for how to make use of them.

Also if I'm remembering correctly, I think someone in the Odyssey alpha test phase, managed to glitch themselves inside of the hull of their ship and found there were incomplete models for the ship's interiors already present. They were no where near complete but they were there. I could be wrong. I'll see if I can find it again.

That's my point. They were all pie in the skied lets put it all in there, really knock their socks off. Then 'something' happened. What was that something? FDev management looked at the time it was taking and deemed it too much effort for insufficient return.

Arthur could learn a lot from seeing how Jared Huckaby handles the role. A sentiment that would now probably get my account banned on the FDev forums in these new "feelings" driven times. The grown-ups have left the building...

Yeah, damn those kids and their childish ways of expressing critique without resorting to insults and harassment...

I'm certain you would not get banned for suggesting a CM looks to another game's CM for inspiration.

Aunty SledgeMaybe they should take a leaf out of CIGs book and sell the Panther Clipper for £1000 a pop to fund the work?

If they were going to sell any ships for obscene amounts of money, I'd consider it if it was for the Majestic or Farragut. Even then it would need some really good features to be worth that much. (Not saying I'd shell out £1000 for a single ship but a more realistic price range maybe?) As much as I'd love to fly one, if they literally remained unchanged, it wouldn't make sense as engineered ships can tank them with relative ease. Last time I faced a Farragut, I was in my Cutter and I don't think I could tell if my shields were actually taking damage even though I was tanking a full broadside from it.

While this is probably the case, I still question their decisions making process. How hard would it be for them to model a coffee cup with "Hutton Orbital" on it and sell it as another dashboard ornament in the ARX store with the requirement to have actually made the trek out to Hutton before players are allowed to buy it? Every time I have seen it mentioned on the ED reddit, it usually racks up thousands of likes with people all commenting about how their wallets are ready for that purchase. As a coffee addict, I'd spend the ARX on it assuming it's priced reasonably along the rates of other existing ARX dashboard ornaments. You'd think of all the things to develop and implement into the game, that would practically be free money by comparison.

While I like the idea as well, I suspect the concept is too obviously on the nose for FDev game design:

A ridiculously long, tedious, unchallenging waste of time but you get a cookie at the end.

If one have such a challenge with adding one, single, simple asset of textured 3d model without any functionality into the game, one more position into the store, and one more boolean variable into the player dataset... Their coding skills is absolute irredeemable crap.

It's not that the coding for this would be difficult or anything. It's taht the obvious metaphor is obvious so game reviewers and CC editors would have a field day.

I don't know... Whenever I look at console games, they're more expensive than their PC counterparts. If you play a lot of games, PCs end up cheaper than consoles. Also there's a greater chance of old games running on future PCs. Some of the games on GOG are older than me!

In many, cases consoles are a forced choice given no alternatives. I got a new "business-class" PC for "office stuff" and Series S back in December. Because that is all I can afford given how bad wages are and how high prices of high tech/digital items are thanks to unified EU markets. I'd need to spend four times money if I wanted to get a gaming PC, not to mention I'd have to rebuy ENTIRE library of games that dates back to 2011.

So please, don't insult the console players. Consoles are a viable choice for a lot of reasons, especially the budget ones given how ridiculous the prices are during pandemic now and thanks to bitcoin mining (as the GPUs are gone even before they reach respective distributors).

Also, as a sidenote, the console release is postponed because neither Microsoft/Sony wants to allow second Cyberpunk 2077 (which forced refund system that is not within their TOS) nor FDev wants Early Access label on their console release.

Are you insulted also by companies that are not making their games available on consoles. I am certainly not offended because I do not have access to console games. It is a matter of choice but regardless of my income I would rather buy a laptop/PC at x3 console price than the console itself. My usual decision factor is how the hardware ages, how upgradable it is and what are the functionalities.

tl;dr
"I am not so rich to buy cheap stuff. "
Consoles are one trick pony.

EpisparhConsoles are one trick pony.

This.
If I must have a PC to do my job and also I can play games, watch movies, use Internet etc. using the same PC... then a console (and a screen for it. I doubt that desktop 27'' LCD will be as good with a console as it's good with a PC) seems like a waste of money.
14 Jul 2021, 4:38pm
Consoles do have their advantages, but if you buy one you're also insanely dependent on the corporation offering it. You're essentially buying yourself into a virtual monopoly. And stuff like monthly cost for access to online multiplayer is a bit offputting as well.

I got an office-work PC and Series S at once. Both costed me three to four times less than trying to get a gaming PC where I live (as for December 2020).

What would that be in € or zł (assuming you're from Poland)?
14 Jul 2021, 4:41pm
I am not sure what you understand by office-work PC but my work laptop is +40% the price of my gaming laptop. And I use it only for personal project and when I travel as usually my employers buy the hardware I need to do their work.

Lol, so basically you spent 100$ for outdated hardware to do stuff that cheap xiami phone will do perfectly.

You went from "console gaming is more expensive" and when I stated my points you abandoned the subject and now you criticize that I went affordable variant because I never had money in the first place. I was going to explain how not everything can be comfortably be done on a phone. But since that you are going to criticize everything I write, I guess I won't respond to your posts anymore from now on.

Good day, Sir. I said, good day.

Not everything can be comfortably done on a $100 outdated 'PC'. Even if it's not about gaming.
