ShuwarWill I back to my ship and current station where I docked in Horizon after finishing Elite Dangerous Odyssey training?

Yes, that should be the way it works 07

Operative word being 'should'.

SuperFixxxeRThere are many things to appreciate in Odyssey - the sound bites in particular... from the 'zip' sound when you exit your ship, to opening a grenade case, to the metal panel that falls to the floor when you've Arc Welded it off... you can't deny these sounds are just deliciously done. Frontiers sound team have always been excellent though.

I can also appreciate a lot of the work gone into Odyssey. I doubt that the gameplay appeals to a wider audience though (like hardcore FPS fans) and its a shame it all feels so 'late' for Elite for spacelegs to have happened in the first place.

All that being said, I enjoy the extra variety Odyssey offers. At least it gives me, as an Elite fan, more choice in terms of how and what I do.

The artwork in general is good. The suits, the guns and tools, the settlement interiors. Nice sci-fi look with enough personality to be distinguishable from other franchises. Odyssey's troubles are definitely not in the art direction.

On the other hand, the avatar faces looked better in Horizons. Not because the meshes or textures have changed, but because the facial rig now keeps the eyebrows raised and the mouth open, all the time in on-foot mode. It looks retarded. That's why I'm still using a profile photo from Horizons. I miss that neutral expression.

Finally! I was wondering what was so different between the two! I thought it was lighting.

Mine actually came from Odyssey, friend of mine ran it through two editing software programs.

Mine is straight from Horizons' Holo-Me editor, no changes except scaling and cropping. I used photos from Odyssey for a while, but I just can't get used to the look. Sadly I think this will never get fixed, given the fact that FDev still has a lot of more pressing matters to attend to. Many if not most players don't care about avatars anyway, they just want to play the f-ing game, which is understandable. But for role players and fan fiction writers the look of the avatar is critically important. It's the canvas we project our ideas on: Who is this character? What experiences made him/her the person he/she is today? That's why I click the Shiny button every time I see an avatar portrait in the gallery here. I love it when people put some effort into personalizing their in-game appearance and give their trader/explorer/soldier/mercenary/pirate/exobiologist character a face.

I feel that avatars and careers are one huge side which could be made better in coming years. At leastb I spended lots of money tuning my ship cockpit and looks. I felt the avatars where not worth to spend. The painthob of clothes is a bit meh. I agree that there are people who spend lots of tine fine tuning their characters.
Its fun.

Back then in noobie times I had to clear my save 3 times at Day #1, as I didn't know that appearance is customisable after applying it first time

Seriously? Horizons didn't even ask you to create a character at the start. It would just give you the black Remlok and opaque helmet, and you would have to discover the Holo-Me editor by yourself.

A game where you can't change your character after the start, now that would be crazy! No developer would ever... oh wait!

In Horizons there was only one space suit and one set of clothing, and all the variations in the Arx store were just retextured versions.

Odyssey brought more variety, but it surprises me that a lot of the NPC clothes (jumpsuit overalls, jackets, vests, formal suits, uniforms etc.) are not available to the player. Not even for Arx! Instead we get immersion-breaking goofy stuff such a Halloween pumpkins and snowman helmets.

Agreed!

I'd really like to have this helmet and these shoulder flaps.

Could use the empty navy ranks to unlock these since every superpower has different uniforms.

I'm waiting for that helmet, too! A version of it with a clear visor was shown in the Odyssey announcement trailer as part of the Artemis suit but never made it into the game. The female character also had different shoulder caps. I've seen these on NPCs, but no outfit pack has them.

The shoulder flaps of that Imperial guard are also on the Plainsman outfits. For 16,520 Arx they are yours. Unless you care about having them in white and red.

EpisparhOh, you are talking about CMDR customization? Here is something funny I found on official forums.

This actually is 100% accurate. BUT those are the dudes you end up talking with. The guys who look supercool, they are usually admired, but not talked to other than "where did you get that jacket".

I rarely see anyone on foot. Instances of Jameson Memorial or Garay Terminal are usually crowded, but everyone stays in their ship.

Might be different if one could actually sit at the bar...

Or poay some minigames etc, make trades. But thats clearly not the case what fdev wants out of their game.
So everyone sits in their ship.
