Aleksander MajjamThat "Thank You Mr. Braben" post on the forums...

"All console players have to do is buy a PC.."
I actually laughed out loud.

Yuna SakashiroIt's mind-boggling that there are people on FDev's forum thinking that Braben's announcement is good news for the PC community. He literally just admitted that client 4 will never perform well enough to replace client 3. So the split between Horizons and Odyssey is now permanent. How is this good news?
Tomciopalecits good because I am in Horizons, buya
Iwao KishiroI mean, some people don't grasp the idea they simply just can't buy a PC off the bat...
Look at it from my perspective, I spent 300 bucks on Xbox Series S (but take into consideration I made it as partial emergency, too). In five years, there will be another Xbox but this time Microsoft realized they'd better offer backward compatibility to all the titles - and given the fact they might over another equivalent of Series S in the next generation that kicks in in 7-8 years, I will likely buy new console for comparable price if that would be deemed necessary.
How does that differ from spending 300 bucks into PC upgrades in these five years at this point?
Now don't get me wrong. Sure, I'd buy PC part by part but there's a huge risk of components basically becoming not capable to run newer games given my progress would be rather slow. Sure, I would buy a gaming PC in shorter time, but that would need me to drop all the non-gaming hobbies, books buying or even drop any form of socializing with people as a whole because, surprise, that too requires money for bus tickets alone, as I live in a small town.
Not that, what I already mentioned, our wages do not really connect with hardware prices. And if people with Western EU wages complain that components are expensive... Yeaaaaah.
Also, before you ask "duh then why you do video games if it is expensive", I'd point out there are even more expensive hobbies and that not a lot of hobbies can make you just forget about your daily issues that tower over you. Video games are perfect for that.
Light-HawkIsn't the plan though to eventually change Horizons to client 4 (on PC) and then just lock the non-Odyssey players out from the on foot things similar to how it worked with Horizons and the base game content?
Yuna SakashiroThat was the plan. Horizons was supposed to receive a free planet tech upgrade and share instances with Odyssey, except on planets.
Aleksander Majjam
Xbox has been VERY good about backwards compatibility.
Light-Hawk[quote=Yuna Sakashiro]Also RIP all the players stuck in Horizons due to not having the latest PC hardware specs to run Odyssey.
