That "Thank You Mr. Braben" post on the forums...

"All console players have to do is buy a PC.."

I actually laughed out loud.

If Mr. Braben will buy me a pc (after all the money i give him with ship kits and paintjob) i can consider the option to switch. But i can't promise i will accept...

Nothing wrong with 60 fps at all. Especially if it maintains it!

I mean, some people don't grasp the idea they simply just can't buy a PC off the bat...

Look at it from my perspective, I spent 300 bucks on Xbox Series S (but take into consideration I made it as partial emergency, too). In five years, there will be another Xbox but this time Microsoft realized they'd better offer backward compatibility to all the titles - and given the fact they might over another equivalent of Series S in the next generation that kicks in in 7-8 years, I will likely buy new console for comparable price if that would be deemed necessary.

How does that differ from spending 300 bucks into PC upgrades in these five years at this point?

Now don't get me wrong. Sure, I'd buy PC part by part but there's a huge risk of components basically becoming not capable to run newer games given my progress would be rather slow. Sure, I would buy a gaming PC in shorter time, but that would need me to drop all the non-gaming hobbies, books buying or even drop any form of socializing with people as a whole because, surprise, that too requires money for bus tickets alone, as I live in a small town.

Not that, what I already mentioned, our wages do not really connect with hardware prices. And if people with Western EU wages complain that components are expensive... Yeaaaaah.

Also, before you ask "duh then why you do video games if it is expensive", I'd point out there are even more expensive hobbies and that not a lot of hobbies can make you just forget about your daily issues that tower over you. Video games are perfect for that.

It's mind-boggling that there are people on FDev's forum thinking that Braben's announcement is good news for the PC community. He literally just admitted that client 4 will never perform well enough to replace client 3. So the split between Horizons and Odyssey is now permanent. How is this good news?

Isn't the plan though to eventually change Horizons to client 4 (on PC) and then just lock the non-Odyssey players out from the on foot things similar to how it worked with Horizons and the base game content?

Xbox has been VERY good about backwards compatibility. I remember seeing a post in those other forums about the heartache that would come with having to maintain MMO games through console generations, and I'm here like.. there are games from the ORIGINAL Xbox that came out in 2001 that I can still play natively on my Xbox Series X. Lol. With a little care and programming, it can be done.

Honestly, if you look around the internets, console ED players would not mind at all switching to PC. Most of us have capable PCs. However, instead of taking the year that they held console users hostage after Odyssey, you're telling me one developer could not come up with a working API that would fully integrate a console account to a created PC account?

Bruh, the methodology ineptitude of Fdev is beyond my comprehension at this point. There are other game companies out there doing it bigger and better, and I've mentioned one so much that they don't need to be mentioned anymore.

What is worth mentioning is that there's a new RTS space game coming out. In more ways than one, the name checks out.

That was the plan. Horizons was supposed to receive a free planet tech upgrade and share instances with Odyssey, except on planets.

I'll need to go farm those geological sites for biological engineering mats in Horizons before the Odyssey tech takes them away then. Also RIP all the players stuck in Horizons due to not having the latest PC hardware specs to run Odyssey.

If they had used a good graphics engine from the start none of this would even be an issue.

Xbox has been VERY good about backwards compatibility.

Only the latest generation has backwards compatibility. The XBox 360 had support for a handful of games that ran on the original XBox. The XBox One can play XBox 360 games via an emulator.

The early PS3 models could play PS2 games, and then they removed that functionality. The PS4 cannot play PS3 games.

This was my point. You simply cannot rely on the console makers to continue to provide backwards compatibility, and you cannot rely on continued support for a game that is in continuous development.

Imagine Blizzard bringing World of Warcraft to consoles at launch and they tried to maintain support for all consoles. They'd need to maintain 3 versions for XBox, and 3 versions for Playstation, and that's not even diving into trying to support it on Nintendo's GameCube, Wii, WiiU, and Switch.

Minimum:
Intel i5-4590 / AMD FX 8350
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 780 / AMD R9 280x

Recommended:
Intel i5-8600 / AMD Ryzen 5 2600
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1060 (6 GB VRAM) / AMD RX 580 (8 GB VRAM)

You don't need cutting-edge hardware. Even the recommended hardware is several years old.
