Just replaced one of the small beams on my Mamba with a pulse laser turret with emissive munitions effect. Highly recommended! You lose a tiny bit of DPS but get a much wider gimbal arc and never lose target lock when the target deploys a heat sink.

Fitting small hardpoints on larger ships for utility instead of raw damage is always better in my experience.

Glad the Mamba has those small hardpoints. On the FDL I'd be wasting a medium one for this.

Any advice for doing covert thefts and covert heists? I am failing miserably. Usually get busted trying to clone pple.

Get lvl 3 Pass, deactivate the alarm and go on with what you have to do

The Artemis is the best suit for sneaking but you still need to watch people movements. I do most of my scanning from above, using skylights and windows on the first floor. Being behind your target is best, and be ready to holster ya scanner if the person moves.

Power plants are my fave; if it has an upstairs window, wait outside and a level 3 clearance person often comes in, and turns their back to the window to look at a panel. Thats always a clean scan.

Spend a lot of time on the roofs looking in and watch people before scanning. Knowing when it's safe can be better than grabbing a scan as soon as you see someone. If you can grab a lvl 2 outside safely, that typically lets you use a computer to locate some lvl 3s'. Again, be ready on your Clear Security Level key (mine is "-") in case the cops investigate you.

Once you have level 3, stay high, and use a computer to find the alarm control. It's often in a Power Plant if the settlement doesn't have a Command Center or Security room. Turning that off really does make your life easy.

Go to an Anarchy system and practice. If it goes wrong, you can shoot your way out (As long as you're in a lawless settlement) and that'll let you get used a being a thief without penalties.

  • Try to passively / proximity scan as much NPCs possible. That will keep them on the radar.
  • Never run, just crauch and stay out of sights of guards and other NPCs. Only guards will scan you but others will stop their routine.
  • Alarm console is level 1 access but it is usually in access 2 or 3 area. Disable this if possible.
  • While cloning IDs stay behind, if you see the head of NPC turns in your directio cease attempt and try later. Crauching from behind will let you be undetected unless random movement put you in NPC sight.

Bonus tip - Diversion:
Use silenced weapon to draw NPCs attention in other direction. (example: firing a silenced Executioner at a barrel won't be heard, but all guards will head to check the explosion)

Your problem is utilizing DPS with a ship like a Mamba which have hard time staying on target. This is the reason people prefer gimbaled frags for it AKA applying heavy alpha damage in short period of time.

For PvE the Mamba is the easiest ship I've used so far. Recently I've equipped my Python with fixed weapons. Staying on target is easy as long as the target is far away. In close range the Python tuns too slow, even with FA off. The result is that it has trouble evading incoming fire. With the Mamba and even with the Courier I can finish enemies while hardly losing any shield. Not so with the Python. After two or three kills my shields are below 50%. The Mamba can handle three ships at one and come out on top with 70% shield. And since it's a bi-weave, it can actually recover while taking on single enemies. So by alternating between wings and singles, I can stay in the hazRES until my MC runs out of ammo, and take home several millions in bounty vouchers per visit. Can't do that with any of my other ships.

Krait Mk2 with a fighter should be tried, can take on wings no problem, the fighters take so much agro.

Saka, Python pitch is almost same as Mamba and python beats Mamba on the roll. Even if Mamba have better lateral thrusters which I doubt, I do not see how the difference can be noticeable.

The values in EDSY tell only half the story. The Mamba turns faster while boosting. So fast in fact that it can trigger the blackout effect. The Python doesn't do that.

I rarely need to boost for NPCs. As soon you stop doing it as better.
