JoeD246So in theory I could uninstall Horizons, install it on an external SSD, and then add Ody to it?


i recommend not doing this couse the data transfer rate is not so good as an internal drive, you will have no pleasure with that way.. i already did it with an other game.. was not what i expected.. than i bought a ssd.. a m2 nvme ssd is the best decision. just a hint.

Transfer rate preference would be some like this...

Internal SSD
External SSD USB 3+
External SSD USB 2.0
Internal HDD
External HDD

Internal HDD isn't far behind an external SSD on a USB 2.0 but SSD is still better. Data transfer is one thing, but seek time is way faster on SSD.

If you have a USB 3.0 (or better) port then make sure an external drive uses it.

As he's talking about an external drive I'm assuming he's got a laptop which doesn't have an internal upgrade option.

I suppose the advantage to doing this is it'd sort of make your Elite game portable. You would have to run an install on every new computer you attach the drive to point the registry in the right direction but after that...

ok with a laptop i would choose an external ssd or external m2 nvme (much better). but care about heat development, the externals getting hot after hours of using couse there is no airflow like in a pc case.. place them on a cool place or spend them some airflow. thats my experiences with them. i have 5 difernt external cases (over the years..) but only use them for storage or large blueray files. with games on it (even with usb 3.0) i had not so good experiences. internal goes always better.

ps: u can upgrade a laptop hdd to ssd, i have done that on many laptops.. in my years as pc technical.. u need just a good backup program and a external hdd/ssd (or a large usb stick)
-or u can clone the old hdd (from the laptop) in an other pc to the new ssd and replace it after work in the laptop, works fine, it´s a good method if no external device is available

Nah, FC interiors are already in the game, you can explore the bridge by bugging camera suit.

FCs have a bar now ... not sure if we can sit on it though. Some sits had option for interaction during the demo but I cannot confirm that with a camera suit only.
