MeowersThargoids!

I'm nowhere near an AX build right now. My short term goal is to get a Python and a T-9. The Python will do the engineer grind, the T-9 will be my cash cow. Third on the list is a Lance that will get me back into combat. And then I can start thinking about AX.

The Type-9 is a terrible ship, the Cutter does the job so much better.

The Type-9 is a dumpster fire of a ship that will see you getting killed a lot and cargo lost. I know people use it for mining, but I still wouldn't.

Cutter is a safe ship for mine and cargo/passenger missions as you can out-run or out-tank everything coming after you. It can also carry more, and that means more profits. A longer-term goal for sure.

My advice is to stick with the Python a lot longer until you can afford the Cutter. Python is still the best BGS ship as it's so flexible.

Type 9 is fine if played in solo/private group.

I love how the T-9 "flies". But in practice, I only use it for one thing - loading and unloading my carrier, when I have a parking spot above the same planet the station orbits. While better pilots may manage to stay alive and keep their cargo, this has not been my experience. It's too lumbering to evade a high level NPC interdiction, and it's too brittle to soak up damage before it can jump away - at least rigged for max cargo. But I really like how it "flies". It's gratifyingly credible.

If you can afford a Cutter, it is a MUCH better option for everything from mining to running cargo - holds less, but you can make multiple trips with minimal risk in the time it takes a T-9 to get killed. The Cutter jumps farther, boosts faster, and carries adequate self-defense.

I'd agree with all of that, apart from one thing. Cutter has the largest hold, 4T more than the Type-9.

Only if you fly shieldless. The T-9 can use class 5 shields, the Cutter needs class 6.

Cutter without shield is better protected than T-9 with G5 Reinforced/Hi-Cap Prismatic shield

The Cutter doesn't need shields, you can get out of range so fast they really aren't needed.
