Elite: Odyssey

Recommended hardware will run space things well, but on-foot content will be in 20-30 fps. It's vomit-inducing even on high-end machines due to crappy optimisation. And you don't need (probably) more than 75 fps in space.

My computer is over 10 years old. I have both shadow settings at medium and terrain detail at low. Everything else is maxed and I am using the default supersampling at 1x. With these settings I get 20-25fps for ground CZ and going to the 15-20fps range when it gets busy. Lowering other settings didn't really improve anything. The pre-odyssey content runs just fine for me except for some slowdown when entering large stations. Funny how I seem to be getting as good or better performance than many high-end setups. Sounds like coding issues to me.

Odyssey is a coding issue.

You don't need cutting-edge hardware. Even the recommended hardware is several years old.

Series S costs 1300 PLN (~300 USD), while Series X costs roughly 2300 PLN. Intel i5-8600 and AMD Ryzen 5 2600 alone over here already cost around 3,500-4,000 PLN brand new. You don't want to rely on auction sites either, because in 99% those are post-mining units. My wage is below 1,800 PLN a month and I can only save maybe 400 PLN off it and that sum goes to hobbies, friends meeting, tickets to drive to them, etc.

I hope you kinda see the problem now.

Ah, I'm tired. We all see the problem. There are many players from low income countries here. Me included. But only one of them talks about his poor financial state almost in each message.

Wow, 1800 PLN. This is like the minimum wage in my country given that we are ranked the most poor EU country. Have you considered relocating for better job offers? I did that several times in my life. Also there are plenty of opportunities for remote jobs after the COVID-19 started.

Yeah, I can see how that would be a problem, though < 1,800 PLN per month seems awfully low when the average monthly salary of a McDonald's crew member is 2,856 PLN per month.

Grecale80I wonder how this could impact on the BGS. Probably it will be completly unbalanced in favour of the squadron pc based. In any case whatever fdev could says this is still a psycological ransom: or you change platform, loosing any progress you achieved, o shut up and play a second class game.

The BGS is currently unbalanced in favor of PC, and will continue to be that way now that it's confirmed ground combat isn't coming to consoles.

Consoles are cheaper on paper, but if you consider the longevity and versatility of PCs and the on average lower price of PC games, I think PCs have a better cost/benefit ratio. Besides, you'll never have to worry about backwards compatibility. Today's PCs can still run most games that were released 20 years ago. I think the oldest game in my collection is Fallout 1 from 1997.

And you can use a PC for work and other things, while a console is basically only made for gaming.

Hooboy. I guess we're back to PC players thinking console players are gaming on a 1991 SNES, eh?

Why does the "PC master race" always try to shill PC's like the majority of people don't own them? You know it's possible to own a PC and a console at the same time right? And the reason why most people prefer to game on consoles is ease of use. I mean, if you're trying to sell the PC to people that don't have one, saying it's cheaper this day in age should get you laughed at. Depending on what console you have, it is cheaper. $299 and a $15 dollar subscription to run current gen 3rd party games a piece of shit 6-8 year old PC would overheat playing. It's nearly impossible to take the price of a current generation console and build a PC counterpart for the same price.

The trick is that an truly office PC (I have an used Wind Top AE2280 got from tax office due to their modernization) and Xbox Series S are a way less expensive option than a purely gaming PC, even if you take Xbox fees into consideration. In my case even that is cheaper because I don't even pay a monthly fee but usually get a 12 month prepaid codes, so I spend 50 Dollars per year

My PC is 6 years old and cost me €999. I play Cyberpunk 2077 on it at ultra settings, and I play Odyssey, too. When I bought that PC, there was only the original Xbox One from 2014, the original PlayStation 4 from 2013, and the Wii U from 2012. That's one of the problems with consoles: to get the most out of them, you have to buy them at the time they are introduced, otherwise you'll get outdated hardware that will soon be phased out. CP2077 on last-gen consoles was a shit show, and even now you'll get only a downgraded version with dumb NPC AI. Only the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions are on par with the PC version. But what about space games? You'll get Elite Dangerous Horizons with no upgrade path to Odyssey. X4 Foundations: PC only. Star Citizen: PC only. Starfield: PC and Xbox. Only No Man's Sky is truly cross-platform, but most ED players seem to have a strong aversion to it. You know the complaints: graphics too cartoony, flight model too arcadey, etc. I've played it, it's a good game, but it can't replace ED.

I'm not shilling, just explaining my choice. If you think you get more out of a console at a better price, more power to you.

This is the main reason why after my last console, a Sega Master system II, always preferred to hava a PC.
The jump has been from Sonic the Hedgehog to Doom2...
My first CPU was Pentium 100 MHz operating in MS-DOS 6.22, since then have lived with a PC, it's 25 years now.

Now here it's operating an i5 2.9Ghz (overclocked to 4Ghz) in W10, 16Gb and an nVidia GTX1650S, no big issues reported.
Will always push for PCs, I greew up with 'em ...and their f***** problems and costs ! Yes this is true almost everywhere, but I found these machines some way worth to have by side

Yuna Sakashiro... I think the oldest game in my collection is Fallout 1 from 1997.

...still sometime runs Orbiter Space Flight Simulator here, copyright 2000

I still have several games from the 90s... back in the olden days when released products were generally finished and patches were infrequent with only minor fixes.
