Question: why is it background story? I'd've thought it was entirely foreground...



BGS stands for BackGround Simulation. It's just a catch-all term to describe the myriad of gameplay mechanics which produce the observable outcomes.


Anyone want to explain sarcasm to Jemine.....?

Doh! "Simulation" not "Story"... back to substance misuse then (I should get that acronyms can often be misleading, what with currently finishing a new system for our Substance Misuse Service — SMS messages DO NOT mean the same thing as most folks usage means... less methadone for a start I would imagine)

The duty of the fighter pilot is to patrol his area of the sky, and shoot down any enemy fighters in that area. Anything else is rubbish.

Smart guy, that Richthofen.

Spent some time reading up on ace pilots and what they had to say. Two things struck me. First, it's kill or be killed, and that's really hard for us to wrap our heads around. Second, Frontier did an outstanding job with the flying in Elite. Couldn't tell you how many times I forgot I was reading about real pilots and not someone playing Elite.

I just wished there was a fraction for the Thargoids.... like how you help them in that one game, i think (i wasnt even born when it was realsed, i think) so you can help them, i guess

IIRC Braben has said there is supposedly more than one alien race in Elite's galaxy, meaning that it is entirely possible that at some point down the road we will make contact with a much more... agreeable species.

I dunno, something hung tells me that there's going to be either a 'goid aligned human faction *cough coughAlliancecough* or a non hostile 'goid option for players to pursue.

The way Ed worded it made it sound as like violence against/from them wasn't the only outcome

Wich clan we will side? Thargoids, Oresrians or the Klaxians. I will not be surprised if we're got caught in the midle of triple battlefront.
