Elite: Game talk

Aesirgriefing in the game doesn’t exist.  Persistent manifest scanning, suicidewinders.  It’s all fair game.  Fly the speed limit and silent run with heat sinks.

Only verbal abuse qualifies as grief, the rest teaches us to fly better

Couldn't agree more!

But why would I fly better when I could just complain here and/or AutoDock my way to Solo?

To be fair Ryan Murdock. I agree that the players that suicide and park at popular grinds for manifest scanning are probably not great people. But I am contesting that there are #$&holes in life, they are not removed from our daily experience so why should we be exempt from the underbelly in game?

Surely the future is rife with thugs as well.

I have delt with this behaviour in game in the past and I enjoy it, it spiced up a rather predictable AI experience. While not totally condoning the behaviour or the kind of person it takes to commit the act, I do embrace it.

Life is messy .

Everyone their own. I am just glad I can avoid toxic people like that, both in game and soon on Inara too once Artie has implemented the Ignore feature.

Life is messy enough already. No need for me to spice it up more.

Haha, fair enough

Personally i think the game would be boring without the conflict. Having everyone floating about holding hands "peace and love" style would get old very quickly in my eyes.

You need conflict and need the danger to keep things exciting! In fact i wish more players took up PvP piracy and bounty hunting as legitimate job roles. Elite is sorely missing PvP players who aren't just fighting for fightings sake. Trading would be a hell of a lot better if there was a higher chance of real PvP piracy "give me 10 tons and I won't shoot" style.

Even then, there's nothing wrong with enjoying a bit of "warfare" either.

Personally, I think comparing how someone acts in a video game to how they might be in real life is a bit silly. Some of us do vile things in games (like shooing up crowds of people in GTA) that we'd never dream of doing in real life because, spoiler alert: it's a game and not real life.

No one gets hurt, you learn from the experience of someone ganking you (hopefully) and you move on and work in ways to prevent it happening again.

I never said anything about peace and love. That the universe is a dangerous place to be in is a given (hello now-near-invincible-Thargoids!).

Yet the Piracy theme you bring up has been ruined by those who don't give a wet fart about anyone else. They have the time on their hands to pimp their rides (or cheat to kingdom come, like SDC and others) and then blow up others who only occasionally want to truck along and want to enjoy some Cargo or Passenger hauling or go on Exploration cruises.

So tell me why someone who wants to protect their meager savings, hoping for to get themselves the ship of their dreams, play along with someone that is interdicting them. The majority of interdictions in this game end with the weaker side getting blown to smithereens, without any text to start with, except maybe that inane Git gud nonsense (fuck you correct grammar, I want to sound kewl!).

But let's assume the interdicted Player doesn't immediately high-wake off (or try to at least). Now you come along with Arrrr, me Pirate, gimme booty or else, and the other side is simply not in the mood for RP or flat out ignores that. What then? You turn around and say Sorry mate and scoot off, or will you shoot anyways?

If one has significant funds under their belt and get interdicted, it's one thing. If one is trying to find their way in the game and gets blown out of the sky, that's another story. But to get enough credits, they need the chance to grow first before you can harvest them - as in, a fat rich Elite Trader in a T9 is a better target for a real Pirate then some poor Cobra Mk.3 chap.

But all that is smoke and mirrors until FD comes along with a working Crime & Punishment setup. People who gank other people in the game should be expecting severe challenges of where to fly and so on. If you're a notorious criminal, the Law enforcement NPCs should be on your tail everywhere, regardless if Imperial, Federal or Alliance (or even Independent) space. Only in lawless Systems they could roam somewhat more freely, but still continously haunted by bounty hunter NPCs, wanting to get the fat juicy bounty that's put on ones head.

So, as long as that or something equally working is implemented, I'll have my fun with those who try to interdict me in Open. By denying them what they want: their fun.

Piracy can have a chance if there will be HUGE difference in game response to small criminal activity (i.e. everything except killing clean cmdrs/NPCs) and killing clean cmdrs/npcs. Sadly atm everyone need to be prepared for meet a killer, bcs they have it MUCH easier compared with pirate which need to have special loadout (if rly want do pirating) and you do not have any easy way how to distinguish pirate and killer.

Speaking from experience, the only problems with piracy right now are down to mechanics and a few annoying bugs.

There is no shortage of victims fellow participants in Open, so feel free to use Solo, Private Groups or exclude yourself with the Block feature to get the experience you want - it's all fine

"you do not have any easy way how to distinguish pirate and killer."

Usually the collector limpets and manifest scanners let me know.

As for piracy, honestly anyone's fair game, even a new player, and even people who're "not in the mood". You play in open, you should expect everything that comes your way, end of.

As for newbie players or "poor" traders, a fledgling pirate in a Keelback or an Adder even, would be a hell of a lot better going after Cobras and T-6's than T-9's. That's insane thoughts if you think newbies should be ignored just because they have less funds.  Likewise a Cobra hauling Painite is a better target than a T-7/9 hauling  gold. It's not the ship or the trader rank that brings the risk, it's the cargo, and if you haul high value cargo then that risk should be accepted.

I do agree though that Piracy should either come with a warning, or with the courtesy of leaving your victim alive to limp back to the station at least.

And as Marra said, Piracy has some fatal bugs just now, ones that have put me off the career myself. But other than that, I think it's a very good way to play the game, and one that should be more accepted by the community as a whole, especially PvP piracy

flying to selene with 10 tons of pain in the neck ite in open was a bit more tense than usual. esp now the npc pirates seem to be using the hatch breakers more regularly

.. anyone playing in Open for some time atm must be wanting to give a pirate chance if there pirating should happen at all. There is only one real reason for this, and it is that cmdr may decide that he will risk chance to lose some cargo (only) for save time needed to flee and return later. But with current situation you have in public places 10x times higher chance to meet a killer as pirate. I play in open exclusively for more as 2 years and there was two (ok, maybe three) situations when I met pirate asking for cargo.

Please don't give me the old It is Open you so you have to expect anything sermon.

Open, like Solo or PG, are all just different instances of the same game. And none of them are higher or lower ranked in any shape or form nor will they ever be changed, unless FD plans to lose a lot of players aka customers for their future upgrades.
