Elite: Game talk

NFC PhistoI think Mobius is a bit of a special case when it comes to Private Groups mainly because they proselytize their "no PvP allowed" view of the game. In my view, they seem to hold it up as a superior version of the game, above what Open Players and even FDEV themselves consider Elite to be.

Which is fine, of course, but folks are then allowed to criticize it. Benefits of an open society and all that. In any case, the open/solo debate has never really been about play your own way but more about how one chooses to deal with adversity in the context of Elite.

I haven't seen any proselytization. What I do see is advertising in the form of signatures and forum threads, which is much the same as any other wing and private group. Not to say any individual person can't be an ass about their chosen "tribe", but that's on the individual not the group, and I see it from everything and anything. People who are being high and mighty about it are forgetting the #1 rule of the group, which is "Don't spoil someone else's game". You read it in the rules before you join, you have to type it on the application when you do join as proof you read it.

Do you hang around the Frontier or Reddit forums at all? Seems like any post where someone is trying to get better at Open Play you've got someone from Mobius telling them to join and never have problems with other players again.

Here's a great example. CMDR gets blown up, is mad, settles down and actually learns quite a bit about what to do next time and the whole thing become a positive learning experience. Then out of nowhere you have the Mobius pitch. I see it all the time.

Yeah, I post quite frequently on the Elite forum. In fact, it's open on a tab to the left of this one. And how is that proselytizing? The one post just mentioned the group he's in and enjoyed his time with it. He didn't link it, he didn't say "You should join", he left it up to the person to Google and figure out himself. The other one just said "Join Mobius, we have cookies", which is even less group advertising effort than the Silverbacks wing avatar I have on that forum. In fact, you're quip, if anything, was the exact thing you say Mobius was doing there.

What I'm saying is that's the Mobius pitch post and you see it with clockwork regularity in threads about confrontational CMDR interactions. Mobius has got a very specific vision of what they think Elite should be and they actively try to promote that vision. Hey, fair enough, but that's the very definition of proselytizing - trying to convert people to your opinion.

If you don't see it, that's fine. Doesn't bother me either way.

If putting out the info and letting people decide is converting people to a different opinion, the jokes, the quips, the tediously long threads about how Mobius should disband, the passive-aggressiveness every time someone from the group makes the mistake of opening their mouth, is the exact same thing, just in the opposite direction. In which case, we can agree to disagree.

You seem to think I think proselytizing is wrong? I don't. I think that's the most accurate word for what Mobius does.

I mean, I don't know of any other private group that sells themselves on no PvP allowed ever and makes it a point to invite people to join when the topic is essentially PvP.

Is that not accurate, or something else?

I'm not goin to lie. I feel like I just read the same 2 posts 3 times in a row.

You basically have. LOL.

Because the same tiresome argument has been going on for as long as Mobius has existed I bet.

I don't think we're talking about the same thing, Damon. But whatever.

**Break break separate subject**

Because I came here for non-dead horse reasons:

What's the most effective way of breaking a faction's Boom status that doesn't involve killing their NPCs? I have...reasons that are currently classified.

Nice PvP post info in there.  Good read.

The only problem with that is they are a single-system faction. Any other ideas?

In fact, given your known activities, I'm quite interested in your tactics.
