Elite: Game talk

Lmao, that is awesome. In the interest of transparency I do have a ship specifically designed for solo. It is an anaconda stripped right to the bones. I haven't used it yet but there was a community goal that I wanted to absolutely crush. But by the time I built the ship it was done.

I'm not the smartest guy out there.. but by god I will be ready for the next one lol

I think Mobius is a bit of a special case when it comes to Private Groups mainly because they proselytize their "no PvP allowed" view of the game. In my view, they seem to hold it up as a superior version of the game, above what Open Players and even FDEV themselves consider Elite to be.

Which is fine, of course, but folks are then allowed to criticize it. Benefits of an open society and all that. In any case, the open/solo debate has never really been about play your own way but more about how one chooses to deal with adversity in the context of Elite.

Yea, I felt the same way. I think what they are getting at though is they just don't want adversity after dealing with it all day. Which I can see.

I have always viewed solo/private as a cop out. But I haven't considered that coasting in space might be preferable if your burned out. I think from now on I am just going to steer clear of the play style debate haha.

Although I still feel strongly about people that cry griefer in open.

And yet, bud, you admit to having a ship set up for using solo for CGs - surely the ultimate cop out

But good on you for changing your views

So is that it?

Is the debate over and we're all friends again?

Haha yup! I am not going not going to deny that it was a shameless attempt at min/maxing hahaha

Min/Maxing? Not heard that phrase before. Could you explain?

I was wondering when it would finally calm down again.

I honestly do not see the big concern over players running solo or in open. Solo is good for getting a ship up to snuff running out for engineering, good outfitting and prices. When all set up and done, open is there for the fresh air and pride. Lots of folks run in open all the time, getting and giving no problems. Some try out their new powers a bit bluntly on any player they come across but the thrill quickly turns to shame. Everyone gets a turn at the re-buy screen, be it FD glitches, bad docking, high gravity or mission misadventure. The only problem with open is outright serial griefing of other undeserving pilots. The only problem with solo is it's sleazy use in undermining another factions system anonymously rather than (wo)man-up to them openly.

Sorry my post might not make sense as I didn't quote Daman when I wrote it and other posts got in between. He was making fun of my Solo Built anaconda. It is a Minumum built ship. Basically has nothing but cargo racks on it and everything engineered for light weight and jump range. To maximize profits.

Basically if you sneeze snot on it, it will blow up haha.

Min/maxing. Although I haven't used the term before. I might not have it quite right.

Basically I think it means a crappy build job to maximize capacity.

Makes sense Aesir. I'm sure someone will correct you if it's wrong lol =D

Lol

I always thought min/maxing was the art of getting every stat to its best possible figure through relentless grind

Quince Monkeying, or flying shieldless traders for maximum credits-per-hour (yawn) would be examples of min/maxing.

That's the context I have seen it in before.
