8.1 was actually a lot better under then hood than Windows 7 (at least I found it so). Metro was a joke of an interface but it performed pretty damn well and you could download programs like Classic Shell to restore the old Start menu. I recall my old laptop's battery life doubling after upgrading from 7 to 8.

I took one look at both of them and pretended they never happened.

At the time, I was the guy who chose, built and deployed the desktop image and the idea of my users and the Metro interface together made my blood run cold. We were running Win 7 anyway, and if it ain't broke........

Our Windows 8.1 machines are all imaged with Classic Shell installed so they behave more or less the same as Windows 7 anyway. We weren't going to force Metro on our users.

But like I said, Metro sucked bollocks, but it did feel as though everything else was pretty well optimized compared to Windows 7.

I can see us sitting a bar somewhere in our fancy flightsuits and jackets over pitcher(s) (some empty) and tankards [friendly] arguing what was the best OS in the 21st Century. Yes I started it. Sorry Artie. At least I posted to the right thread this time.

I wanted to ask, are there any good systems to base out of around the bubble for an ex Hudson, ex Federal, now independent ? I had just re-based in Sol for the time being, looking to move out of Jameson memorial after doing almost everything out of there for a while. Imperial or Alliance systems could work, as long as there's some good trade routes nearby and hopefully not too much slavery if I end up setting down in an Imperial system( ._.) .

I heard there's this cool system called Inara with a faction called Inara Nexus that's making quite a splash for itself.

I used to like wandering the wasteland, picking up misssions and travelling until I found a station that gave out mission types I liked or happened to circle a pretty planet. Then I would settle down for 6 months or so haha. When it came time to move on I would save it to the galaxy map for old times sake and fly forward into the black.

Those times are at an end, now I am locked into my factions system. A good thing I guess.

Is that the same as windows CE because I actually still have a mini laptop that runs on that. Gave it to my daughter and she loves it, no idea why.
