Elite: Game talk

Calteru So in other words I'm at endgame after 2w playtime. Awesome. In other sandbox games this is where I would start building things for other players to find and maybe write a storyline to go with those things but that's not happening here. I put in an inquiry with the racers already but it seems they haven't done anything since the summer and I can understand why after having run a few racing leagues in other games myself. Without good prizes interest wanes. I'd offer microtrans stuff or IGC but neither are viable options here. I'd have loved to have hired myself out as a tour guide but taking palladium as payment is too much of a pain to make it profitable. Hell, I'd really like to just be a highwayman robbing tourists but I'd need too much cargo space to make it fun. I could do a lot if there were even simple P2P trading.

2 WEEKS?  Then I doubt you've been sightseeing (there's a lot more than you can see in 2 weeks).  Most exploration runs are longer than that too.   You've probably not flipped any big systems in that time.  You've barely scratched the surface.

I've been to 5070 systems as of this posting and most have been very similar so I'm not sure what you're basing this on other than your own personal assumptions. Can I trade data or not?

The content is what you make of it.

Exploration data that you scan is sold at Universal Cartographics in inhabited systems if that's what you mean.

But in regards to other P2P trading, nothing but cargo transfers.

If the game is nothing for you, then so be it

Some people have been playing this for 33 years , (yes before the ibm pc/dos), so there is something to it

It's kind of frustrating talking about this game with its superfans. A good game can have flaws and omissions. It is what it is. I could do more if there were a few standard features but there aren't so I'll do whatever until I get bored and play something else. At least there isn't a shortage of these kinds of games anymore. X4 looks like it'll be pretty good. Evochron's fun. Maybe the megaships that are supposed to be coming will be like my old Kyoto from X3. Guess I'll just keep filling in the gaps with multiple games until The Perfect Game™ comes along. Thanks for the feedback.

what would you consider "a few standard features"?
Calteru  ...if there were a few standard features but there aren't so....

Elite isn't ment to be treated as a pure Solo-Player game. It is still developing and will continue to do so for the next couple years.

Patience is a virtue. If one doesn't have that and just wants shallow entertainment, well...see you in a few years?

Clearly, the solution is to write hundreds of pages of fan fiction to fill in the gaps of what you wish the game was.

Clearly ED is no longer the game for you. If you've achieved more in two weeks than some have achieved in two years, then you must have been progressing at breakneck speed. It's perhaps no surprise that you feel burnt out and bored by it. Maybe take things at a more leisurely pace next time?

Good luck.

Have you visited planetary nebulas? Been to the core or the edge? Look, I enjoy the game, but it's not for everyone. They give you a ship and a galaxy, the rest is up to you. There's no one telling you what to do, it's entitely up to you. It sounds to me like you want a game with some guidance. Those are fine games, but things like this just don't happen in them.

an anaconda in 2 weeks...? did you buy your account? that would be theoretical possible, but only when you know how to play the game thoroughly...even then...
19 Dec 2017, 11:16pm
Glitches. Had an acquaintance manage to get a new account to a 'conda in less than a week.

And people wonder why they get bored of a game that hands them stuff so easy.

Dunno what he did in 2 weeks that can compare with my two years, but I got a PMF in 15 systems and 30 ports, triple Elite ranks with more stars and distance under my belt I care to think of with 7 billion in assets, and there is STILL stuff to do for me.

So as I said, the game is what you make of it.

LOL

Lot of the folks here have been playing Elite steadily for years - more than a few since the original 1984 game. Maybe ask what keeps us coming back?

Elite still makes comfort for those of us who, years ago wanted a place to go where numbers meant something and socializing was left for somewhere else. Zero chit-chat, nothing but wonder, and space, and time. Peace. Oh... and Thargoids.
