Elite: Game talk

I recently landed my Cobra at a surface port on a high gravity planet. Some SERIOUS gravity - 4 Gs! (See gallery)

And while I was loading some cargo, I wondered - how does anyone live and work in this environment on a regular basis? Why would they be there?

Well - the second question answered itself when I checked the market - the planet is a treasure trove of metals and dense minerals. Okay - that checks out.

As to the former - as was clarified in a previous conversation, there's no artificial gravity tech in this universe other than centripetal spinning.  So whoever is living here has to deal with crushing gravity.

I imagine that no one lives down here on a permanent basis. Probably month-long shifts at best. The pay has to be EXCELLENT to entice workers. And likely medical benefits have to be covered to some degree. Though that's probably alleviated somewhat by requiring a lot of medical tests before you're even allowed down to make sure workers don't just have a cardiac arrest the first time they try and stand up.

In fact I imagine standing up to be something avoided as much as possible. Exo-frame powered suits would likely be necessary for almost all activities where you need to actually walk or move about indoors. A lot of activity is likely handled remotely by robotic drones, etc. The port is likely heavily automated, etc.

Anybody else found a world like this?

Ceres Tarn was my base of operations while I was in the Pleiades for a month. Lots of practice landing in high g environments.

Yup - that's the downport I was referencing.

Ceres Tarn is still my Home.. not that I've been there much as of late, but I still keep a small fleet there.

I discovered it by accident, and learned to pay attention to the gravity indicator all it one fell swoop, when I skipped my AspX off the ground hard enough that it should have left a ravine - no shields, 2% hull. That's when I noticed the gravity, and found Ceres Tarn to land and make repairs... and I've kept at least a few ships there ever since.

How does one grow accustomed to such an environment? Gradually, over time,

Guys, you know G is indicated below your coordinates , on the right sight of HUD? Below the altimeter?

Definitely. I check it every time I make a landing on a planet/moon I haven't been to before just so I don't get caught by surprise. Saved me from an embarrassing re-buy a couple of times.

You should all take your heaviest ship and attempt to land it on Achenar 3.

I'm reasonably close to 28 Eta Orionis, which has a planet with 6.58 g's. I'll let you know how that goes.

If you are really up to a challenge...

Try the Chili here. It packs a boost that'll make your frame-shift.

Yep, just put her down on 28 Eta Orionis 3, with 6.58 surface gravity. Only a slight ding to the shields.

(I THINK this is the appropriate place to post this. Let me know if I'm wrong.)

I thought you guys would get a kick out of this -

2001 A Space Odyssey with a little inspiration from Cheech and Chong.

"Dave's not here."

(Somewhere in the Elite Universe - you KNOW something like the above has happened with a malfunctioning ship computer. )

So here's a question. It says that a wing will be deleted if inactive for enough time but how long is that exactly?

I only ask because I have been trying to get a hold of someone over at Federal Defense Initiative, Federal Reclamation Co and Federal Navy's Club for weeks now and nobody seems to be home. I'm not trying to name or shame here, I'm asking is anybody here still with these groups and where are you all?
