Ryaustal So wait... people actually use sidewinders to kamikaze trade ships in an attempt to get the station to blow them up?
??? This is about speeding right?

I was talking about chances for trading in small(er) ships ...

Kind of. It doesn't happen nearly as often as some here would have you believe, but it does happen occasionally. It's also easily countered by not speeding through the mailslot and causing enough damage to make them explode anyway.

It happened multiple nights at the last 2 CGs. With multiple perps.

lol. once they start up people start sending out warnings on the comms

"douchebags are flying through the mailslots - keep under 100" etc.

and sometimes you get a victim or victim's buddy who are puzzled by the whole thing since they are new and also could never imagine such behaviour "hey guys - someone flew their eagle into my friends ship on his way in and it got blown up. How can i find out who it is?"

Shock means the poor guys don't even remember to look at their contact list to see who got their buddy killed.

Q&A with Sandro on the topic today:

How will the tactic of sidewinder ramming to incur a huge penalty on the other player be fixed here?
Ramming is an issue we want to look at. It may be we can tweak the ramming crime to mitigate against this behaviour, though it may be that a karma solution is still required.

Its obviously enough of an issue among the player base, and the stats, that means that FDev are going to revisit the issue.

JQPersonally, if I had to throw my two cents in as to what is a "suitable trading vessel," I'd say a trade ship with shields, countermeasures, and even potentially some means of self defense. Call me what you will, but I don't have any sympathy for traders with no defenses getting destroyed. It's a harsh galaxy, and if you make yourself an easy meal just to maximize your profits, you have nobody to blame but yourself when you get eaten.

Don't do that. Having a collision under 100 m/s doesn't do enough damage to destroy anyone, and would result in a very small fine, if not being ignored by the station itself. The people doing the ramming are counting on people impatiently boosting through the mail slot and breaking the rules, and rammers are just taking advantage of that.

Are the people doing the ramming being dicks? Absolutely, and no one's denying that. But the guy boosting through the mailslot because he's impatient shares a little of the blame too.

Heck, you can kill NPCs speeding! Once watched a friend get wrecked after splattering a poor T6 against the mailslot wall.

Marra MorganThe espionage meta-game has its place and is thriving in ED as much as it is in other popular space-based MMO's.

There's espionage in Elite?? Is it a mission board thing?

Yep, mostly some personal insults towards my person from duplicity accounts (except Simon, of course). So I applied a rule "don't shit where you eat" and brought a long-time unused banhammer buried deep in the closet.

Aww damn, does that mean I missed my chance at more poetry?
