NFC PhistoSounds like frag cannons with the red weapon modifier or the incendiary effect (or both). Massed overcharged or double shot frags have very high DPS (and with premium ammo, they're even deadlier!) and can rip through shields with ease.


Sounds plausible...but i thought frags where useless against shields? i was really surprised he took out my prosmatic shields in 2 go's......

was a funny situation...i saw him firing, i saw the dispersion, i laughed because i thought frags had little effect...and then it tore half my shields away.....i remember thinking "No Way!" ....and he did it again...saw again the red dispersion flying by.........

Sure, appreciate it, always eager to learn:

trying some weapon loadouts for my FDL, but here are my stats on Shipyard


My shields: 1128 , 50% thermal resistance, 22.4% Kinetic, 47 % Explosive

In any case...it's diffcult to find a proper loadout, becasue you can encounter so many situations....i try to mix it for larger and smaller ships..a middle of the road solution...

But i will try a 4a Frag canon with double shot incindiaries on my FDL   first lesson...there are no Class 4 Frags

No he didn't take me out....

Thank you for asking....usually when start engage i go in with 3pips on SYS and 3 on Weapons...due to the shock i can't remember hw the setting was

First, good job surviving!

I see your issue right away: 24% kinetic resistance is very low for PvP.  Generally speaking, above 50% resistances for all three categories is solid (once you hit 60%, it's going a little overboard).

I've run a Prismatic Lance since Engineers dropped, and I'd recommend the following for all combat situations:

5A Thermal Resist Prismatic Shield
Resistance Augmented Shield Boosters x 2 (three if you can't Grade Five them yet)
HD Boosters x 2 (or one if you need that extra Resist boosters)
Double chaff (screw you gimbals and turrets!)

My Lance in this configuration boasts 1500 MJ, +50% on thermal and kinetic resists and +60% on explosive resists.  With 135% dirty optimal multiplier and depending on weapon weight and armor she'll boost 510-520 m/s. Add aggressive PIP management into this and it's worked pretty well for me.

Of course I'll tweak it here and there depending on what I want to do, but this can get you started.

THanks Phisto...always good learning moments.....how did you get actually 50% thermnal & kinetic? os is it just because of the boosters mix?

trying different loadouts...have 3 FDL-s to try...one pure PA, other MIx and other classic loadout...but shields can be indeed better ...

the good is i an see waht is now possible...i thought i had reached my max with shields

Ah, the frag Clipper! Got to have gimbals because of the crap HP placement on that thing. Double chaff would've be spraying his shots all over the place non stop.

Hmm, that's right.

Wonder if he went gimbal or fixed on the FDL. Always debated that myself.

personally fixed for frags - max damage. also - if you want pacifier frags they only come in fixed variant. i find them effective against med and larger ships - smaller ones not so much. double shot frags are one of my favorite weapons.

i only use the turrets on the big ships - to catch those flying over you in the face unexpectedly
