Lol this sounds awful. I really hope my ship doesn't explode out here.

That's the reason it's wise cq prudent  to take a AFMS with you...no weight, and it repairs your FSD drive (FSD will be stressed a lot in those situations)

I actually did pack one after reading a page about exploration. So i didn't do everything wrong I guess lol

Repair Limpet Controller. For those times you accidentially bust that canopy...

This is my exploration boat. It has guns because it's kind of a roleplaying thing. I wanted to make something close to the Enterprise that could still go visit strange new worlds and it hasn't let me down. It probably wouldn't get to Beagle Point though. In the next version I'm going to add that repair controller Ryan mentioned and take out the collector controller.

James HussarOh, sure, everyone complains about instancing keeping players from seeing each other, but when some joker strokes out while on a pad, everyone suddenly hates being in the same instance.

I always play Open. Until some cretin goes afk on a pad, then I have no choice but to flip to solo and then back again.

It would get to Beagle jumprange wise. I doubt that it'd make it there, distance wise though.

You have a bunch of stuff you don't need though. Such as C7 shields, Refinery, SCB, Passenger Cabins and Shield Boosters.

Explo ships usually have only heatsinks as utilities, the biggest fuel scoop available, two AFMUs, a D-rated Powerplant (I prefer it with a low emissions modification), A-rated thrusters (my preference, you'll appreciate it on planets with a higher gravity), and, if you're social and/or have friends out there, a fuel limpet controller + a small cargo rack. The repair limpet controller sounds worthy, but I have not yet used it, so I don't know if you can actually repair yourown hull/canopy with it.

Imho, you should drop the guns, even if it's an 'RP' ship. A standard exploration vessel simply doesn't stand up well in a fight, a conda with lightweight hull, fixed weaponry and D-rated thrusters much less. That thing won't stand ten seconds against an enemy who halfway knows and means what he or she does.

CalteruI'm bored and looking for ideas to keep me playing. I don't like combat. I do like exploring and trading but I feel like I've already accomplished all there is to accomplish with regard to those two facets. I've learned the BGS to the point that I flipped control in two systems solo and got one to expand without hardly even trying. Is there anything left? It doesn't look like anyone does SRV racing which is too bad because I'd probably be into that.

https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteRacers/ or run your own club. Hire yourself out as a BGS expert. Wipe your save and start from scratch. Take a shitwinder to the roof and floor...

So, you've discovered every planet and moon in the galaxy? Wow, I'm impressed. And surprised, since I still seem to be able to cash in new cartography pretty regularly. Seriously, though, it sounds like you get bored with life, too. When you think about it, ED is essentially trying to approximate how spacefaring life would be like. It's very open, somewhat random, but people drive a lot of the flow based on how they interact--or don't. In real life, if you went off exploring how "exciting" do you really expect most of your daily grind would be? Not very. It doesn't matter where you are or where you go. You can always get "bored". Know what happens to people who can't seem to find any purpose in life? They commit suicide. That's not something I advocate.

I suspect, Calteru, that there are a lot bigger issues with you that flitting from game to game in search of "something" is merely a symptom. Or, maybe not. Just some observations.

You can repair yourself with it. Just don't target anyone else and shoot off the limpet and it'll start fixing you. I think one can be attached at a time. The shields are 7D though. I have the passenger cabin so I have a nice place to sleep, the shield cells because I had a free slot for them and the power to run it with the power plant mod, the boosters because they help me with thermal damage and because the Enterprise had some decent shielding, and the refinery because I might get bored and decide to hunt for diamonds or whatever. It fights well enough against PvE trash. A PvP boat looks like it would be a lot of powerplay stuff and I don't like the idea of pledging to a power. I like being on my own. I can't wait for dockable megaships. I hope they can get some kind of decent jump range.

Let's keep the amateur psychologist stuff to ourselves, hmm?

Calteru,

Dockable Megahips, you say?  Have you heard of The Gnosis?  It's run by the Canonn Research Group (a player faction!) and might be just what you're looking for. You can dock with the ship as it jumps around the galaxy. I think they hit the RP and science/lore thing pretty hard too, so might be just the thing for a 'to boldly go' kind of person.

Good to know.

The shields are 7D though.

C7 means Class 7, not C-rated.

I have the passenger cabin so I have a nice place to sleep,

A passenger cabin is a cabin for passengers, you can safely assume that crew compartments belong to the standard outfitting.

the shield cells because I had a free slot for them and the power to run it with the power plant mod,

Completely unnecessary and useless, if you really want to go towards Beagle. A second AFMU makes much, much more sense.

the boosters because they help me with thermal damage

But you don't encounter thermal damage out there, you encounter mostly heat damage. Shield boosters don't help against that, only heatsinks do.

and because the Enterprise had some decent shielding,

Shields on an explorer do make sense, mostly for dampening an accidental rough land on a planet. But decent shielding for an explorer is something entirely different to a decent shielding for a combat vessel.

and the refinery because I might get bored and decide to hunt for diamonds or whatever.

And where would you store them? Inside the passenger cabin? You need a cargo rack to make the refinery even remotely useful. Apart from that, mining far outside the bubble is essentially loading more weight on yourself, decreasing your jump range. That's something you really, really don't want in some of the less dense parts of the galaxy such as the Far Rim.

It fights well enough against PvE trash.

Looking at your harmless rank, that's no wonder. Try pitching that against something above expert and you'll get your ass handed to yourself in no time.

A PvP boat looks like it would be a lot of powerplay stuff and I don't like the idea of pledging to a power.

A. No you don't necessarily need powerplay modules for PvP loadouts. Mine work fine without. PvP loadouts in general are mainly focussed on burst damage combined with the ability to keep your enemy in your instance, eg. mass lock, frame shift disruptors, more burst damage. Generally that's a lot more fun to fly, too.

B. No explorer should ever be taken to a fight against a specially fitted combat vessel. An excellent pilot might get away, someone with less combat experience will die.

I like being on my own. I can't wait for dockable megaships. I hope they can get some kind of decent jump range.

You can already dock at megaships. You just can't control them and most likely that'll never come either.

I loved my Gnosis in EvE. So it does jump! How does that work? Does one of your faction pilot it? What's its range? How many ships can it hold? Can the pilot switch out to a ship in the hangar and undock? That's pretty neat! I want one. I'd like to visit it but it's 22k light years from me right now!

Rebecca:

I know all of that. If I were going to max out jump range or whatever I'd probably fly this instead.

Check out the link I posted. It's a Megaship controlled by Canonn. It jumps once per week - basically acts like a mobile station.

I bet there's contact information on their webpage. You might be able to hook up with them next time they are back towards the Bubble.

Or, alternatively, hook up with Apex and get a top notch Explorer build and go meet the Gnosis.

Actually, the AFMS will repair a canopy that's not 100% destroyed (I should know, it happens often enough for me)
