They make excellent tanks, support ships, and torpedo boats for combat. They can also mass lock everything, which along with their relatively high speed is useful for chasing down enemies attempting to escape.

Few folks explore in them too, but that's kind of a niche/preference thing from what I understand.

Wibs3667Hi Commanders,

just wanted to seek your views on the Imperial Cutter.

It's rubbish.
Far too shiny, white and Imperial-looking.

PhelboreI hear all Cutters come with a free Aisling!

At my age I'm not sure that's a bonus I could cope with

Thanks for the perspective....probably not for me then, I'm more of a trader in my current big two and use an FDL for combat. Have used the Conda for exploration, which was nice but not as effective as my Asp...not sure I can really justify the purchase

You can always buy it later, if you want!

Thanks Marra, don't mind the shiny but am concerned that it's going to be a big shiny white elephant

Thanks Phisto, I might buy the bugger play about with it a bit and then flog it if it really does disappoint...just didn't want to waste what playing time I have on something that turns out to be pants.

Wibs3667Hi Commanders,

just wanted to seek your views on the Imperial Cutter.

I own both a Conda and a Vette and while I have both the rank and credits to buy a Cutter I'm wondering whether there is any point in doing so.

I know the Cutter is very pretty but outside of the cargo capacity and decent thrusters I don't see a massive advantage (certainly for the money) of having a Cutter in my fleet.

Am I missing something?

it's a fast vessel, can do 500/525 but only in a straight line, has very strong hull, shields, excellent hardpoints

excellent miner, pirate-ship and combat-support

drawback? NOT AGILE AT ALL, hardly lateral or vertical thursters.......it asks for it's own tactics....

However....shielded you still can have 760 cargo...unshielded 792

very expensive lifestyle....

Well, trading is the very discipline where Cutter is king. More cargo space than any other ship, at the same time a fortress and fast.

You won't know if you like it unless you try it.
Worse case scenario, it doesn't work out for you and you sell it and you eat a bit of the cost. I like to think of it as the cost of doing a demo.

You're going to find out, which a lot of people seem to forget when they have that much money to throw around, is that the Cutter turns like a pig compared to the Anaconda and Federal Corvette. Yes, it has more straight line speed than the other two, it's got a lot of room for cargo, it certainly looks pretty, but you're going to be hearing "Align to ship's trajectory" a lot more than the other two. Cutter's got weaker lateral and vertical thrusters compared to the other two. That's not a dealbreaker for some people, just something to be aware of.

I suppose you're right Stryker, when it comes down to it what are credits for if not to buy nice stuff

It is a worry Damon, when I bought the Conda (having spent a couple of months in a semi-engineered Python) I was soooo disappointed on taking it out for the first time, at how slow and cumbersome the damned thing felt. It improved with work but still felt a real let down in system flight.
