Those with embarrassing noob stories from when they were learning to play, and those who lie.

Noob stories?  Just last week I tried to dock a T-10 without asking for clearance. Set down on a pad and everything. I was sober.

Just Saturday evening I found myself halfway in the flight deck with a transgression warning. I don't think I've ever flown my ship so damn fast backwards!

Almost 3 years and you would think I'd remember to request permission to dock.

I still do that. Nothing like blasting into a station at full tilt and then flippin' that shit around to go right back out.
24 Jan 2018, 6:22am
Oh heck, glad to see I ain't the only one crashing into stars and pissing off Traffic Control by not asking nicely first to dock!

I don't get to fly nearly as often as I would like, so resources like Inara and the various forums keep me up to date (and teach me about not flying into stars and docking requests, amongst others!). I see that some CMDRs say that using external resources detracts from Elite, I find it quite the opposite, and realistic enough. I mean, I am a privateer/freelance pilot, who would use such resources in 3304 if they were available. Knowing where find something or do something, from resources outside of the 'game', is plausible. If I was actually living in the Elite universe, I would use their version of the Internet to find such things out.

If I had a credit for every time I forgot my limpets, I could retire from the life of crime

Hmmm I jump out of system and forget my Fuel scoop for a long journey, although it's usually only one system out that I remember I left it behind. Still never had to use the Fuel Rats - touches wood

I know the feeling, and that's WITH a fuel scoop... fortunately been able to then buy/scoop fuel before needing the Fuel Rats.

I think turbo earning credits makes the game boring. I started out exploring and ran around in my Adder quite a few thousand LY befor getting back to buy a new ship. Got fried by a twin star twice on the way. Then I had the money for a Vulture. Felt so good buying it after so much time exploring. I blew it up in my first fight lol. After I figured that excellent ship out money earning got easier albeit a little boring. I got the rank and money for an imp Courier and bought one. I took around 20 hours more to learn the Courier and find the most enjoyable module layout. And I have to say that ship is so damn fun to fly!

I earned like 15 mil doing fighting in HazRes in my Courier by now. But this took nearly 4 days. Grinding a Clipper now. With activities I enjoy most.

Elite is about the journey you do to get to your goals and the commanders you meet on the way. Not about having the "end game" stuff or the "best and most op" ship.

I spent a very large chunk of my Elite career in a Cobra MKIII. Way more fun than any big 3 ship in all honesty. It's small, and a blast to fly, especially for smuggling.

Very well spoken there.

I myself lately made the Duke Rank but am highly unlikely to ever own a Cutter. Just to have something for the sake of possessing it has no meaning for me. I bought myself an Anaconda a while ago and it's just sitting there collecting dust. Might as well sell it again.

Things might change a bit once the Q1 update finally happens. What I've seen yesterday finally made me interested in getting Engineers unlocked. Which in turn means one day I might go exploring and finish that 3rd Elite rank.

Or not. Elite is ever changing and so are one's goals, and it's good that way.

Yea, that irks me too. Sure a game such as this does have its faults. There are things that I wish it had, but its good to take advantage or have fun with what it provides. Its a marathon, not a sprint. It did get boring as I played by myself when I 1st started. It all changed for me when I discovered Inara. All I wanted was the cool pilots license some people had in the Frontier forums, but I had no idea Inara WAS THIS! Just wow! Artie, you tha MAN! o7
It's the 1st game in my entire life I've spent over $200 for one game, in VA, HOTAs, Paintjobs, etc etc. The final goal is VR. So you'll get back what you put into it imho. And you're 100% right. Their loss and waste of their time whining about it. I say let 'em. We know what's up.

Nicely put, +1 on all that. I've been much the same route in the game as you, and Inara was THE game-changer.

Heh, last time the fuel choked on me it was fortunate I was flying with a wing-mate who was able to be an honorary fuel-rat. And fortunate that I had enough Mats for life support synthesis to stay alive long enough!

THIS! INARA provides so much for us. I just recently joined and can´t imagine to play Elite without INARA anymore

@Artie: This is such beautyful work. Keep it up man!

Erinia Scantyar hit the nail on the head and I agree totally. Its a never-ending gaming experience and all in your own time, I don't see the point in rushing only to burn out early. There is always something different to do and see, furthermore others to meet.

Yes keep up the fantastic work Artie, you add to the whole gaming experience and give us a place to learn and advance, also a place to relax and help others

And we all need to do our share to make Artie's beautiful creation worth using with each other. So that he can concentrate on improving on it as well as listening to our pleas and suggestions how to make it even more convenient for us.

I sometimes wonder through how many clones of himself the man went through (and constantly has to!) to do all his work / shopping / cleaning / spending time with the GF or wife to be constantly around for us.
