Was just about to say. 55mil sounds like a hefty loss for well, any ship.

Type-9 in the beta's got an extra class 8 optional slot, upping the total cargo capacity to 788 tons. Hopefully it stays that way. Makes sense since the Type-10's optional slot layout temporarily made the Type-9 obsolete. This would also top the Imperial Cutter in cargo capacity if you use the minimum allowable Shield Generator (without engineering): Type-9- 756 tons, Cutter- 728 tons.

Legacy Cutters with 760t shielded will still be superior. Also that extra weight will ruin the T9 jump range even further. It is good however for everyone who can't or doesn't want to get a Cutter.

I wouldn't call a Cutter superior, seeing as you have to dirty your hands working for the Empire, but yes, there certainly is...more of it.

Man, I really love the look, inside and out, of the Chieftain. But, heavens, the thing is sloppy to drive. I think it might even been worse than the AspX. I mean, the thing is fast, but not nearly as agile as I was expecting. You do not want to be coming at the ground very fast. On one run I nearly ended up shoving my landing gear up through the top of the hull because pitching up at a decent clip felt more like flying with FA off. And this on a ship with pivoting engine nacelles. Very mushy. I get better response from my Python. So, I agree with what a lot of folks are saying about the Chieftain. I also think they could switch out one of the Military slots for a regular one.

I did the same thing. I'm so used to my regular ship, I pancaked on the surface. "I'm using laterals damnit, why isn't it stopping??" I only had stock when I took it out for a 'spin' though. Once the modules are upgraded by class and modded, she'll be a good combat vessel. It drifts a lot using yaw, but yeah, a stronger thruster package, may even compete with a FAS in turn rate. I like it. The boost and throttle down sounds awesome.

it does handle smoothly, roll and yaw are good and smooth!

Just accelaration ,decelaration and the vertical, lateral thrusters are sooo slow...they are 55%of forward speed, which is mmmmmwahh...with FA-Off it's only 65%...so indeed watch out when approaching objects, or surface

Thing is, I DID upgrade the thrusters to A. I didn't engineer them (and shouldn't have to). The thing still is very sloppy. I don't get why anyone says it's "smooth", unless by that you mean lazy. If this is advertised as a superiority fighter+, it does NOT handle like one. It shouldn't be smooth, it should be as tight as a sports car. I 'd take my Vulture out in a battle before I'd take the Chieftain as it is now. I WANT to really like this ship. But it needs tweaks. Oh, and heaven forbid you want to hull tank this thing. They have the plating so much heavier than comparable ships, it significantly drops performance.

For a freighter i find it extremely smooth...and yes, i slapped a A thruster and a DD5 ....i consider it handling smooth, for a freighter/support ship, surely not a fighter, ...but the accelarations and slowing down are "lazy"... An Asp Explorer will have a better handling

Keep in mind it is in beta, therefore Frontier is asking for feedback. Report your findings in the relevant forum topic: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/401925-Alliance-Chieftain

So you are telling me that players supporting the same Power can attack each other freely now? I just logged into Open to be destroyed by a FDL and lost 400k (that amount is actually a big deal to me at the moment) without provoking anyone.

The hell, ED?

You'd probably get a better response addressing that on their forum.

Any player can attack any other player freely. There is no mechanic in place to prevent that. Allegiance to a power/superpower doesn't mean anything.

And also, even though it might say you're jumping into territory of an enemy power, nothing changes, NPCs and stations aren't any more likely to shoot you because you're a Mahon supporter in Zachary Hudson territory. Still business as usual. You'll just be a walking target in Open to Hudson supporters.
26 Jan 2018, 7:27pm
The catch is, I (had) pledged Patreus, but then the Patreus player attacked me. What's logic behind that, mind me asking? Not that pledging allegiance basically gives very little in return.

On unrelated sidenote, how come I always end up assigned to the docking pad that is already taken by another NPC in Open Play? :/ Had to relog to Solo Play to get rid of that bug, what's not nice.
