Phisto SobaniiLyon, you even try shooting a Viper with cannons or PAs? Believe me, they’re hard to hit even when you’re aiming at ‘em!

Marra MorganIt's not like that Viper teleported out of nowhere - it's there on your scanner, you know that it's around. I regularly fly in CZ's, where there are a lot more ships in the instance and I can honestly say that I don't have this problem, neither do the Inara users I fly with. You watch the scanner, you use your senses (the sound in the game is brilliant, you can hear other ships around you with headphones), and you keep your fire in short, controlled bursts. Ultimately, it's down to you.

I was supporting NPCs against Anaconda, but when I fired PA, there was that one Intersec Torval NPC a-hole which got right away into the line of fire. A rare, but very sad occurence. I mean, there are even larger ships that fly out of your dead-zone even though you check your scanners for nothing nearby to come. I am pretty much unlucky to sometimes end up with ships coming out from my bottom that is my blind zone in case of my Viper Mk IV.

But taking your notes, being more careful about it and replaced PA for twin Pulses. Better be safe than sorry. Thanks for advices anyway!

As a sidenote, has anyone noticed that you don't need to hit ship's hull in order to receive the bounty claim? I mean I was told that I need to hit it in order to get the claim but then I realized shot on the shield was enough, cause I didn't even deshield FDL when NPC Anacondas shred it into pieces before I could turn around.

Actually now that I think about it, the only things I ever seem to hit with friendly fire are wing mates and my SLF. I reckon wing mates more so because we as players all attempt to fight ships the same kind of way, from behind as close to their thrusters as possible, so two people tracking the same ship often end up on the same course. Other than that I have very few instances of friendly fire. Just got to keep your eyes peeled and things will be dandy.

If your going to fly 5000ly to open an Engineer what is a good direction to go from HIP 6796.  Should I use a Dolphin for such a trip at 31.13/33.3/35.45.  (if I strip the Dolphin I can get almost 39LY. Or a Python slower but more capabilities.  I am also looking for a pretty system to call home suggestions?  I do not think I have run across another human player since I left the starter area 1 month ago.  I am trading passengers and simple missions as a job now while I learn to fly a Cobra MK3.

Much as the ancient samurai never drew their weapons unless they intended to use them, you should never deploy your hardpoints unless you intend to use them. And never fire your weapons unless you intend to kill.

That said, the occasional accident does happen. Under the new system, randomly tagging the system authority once or twice mid-fight isn't going to cause an issue. If you're finding yourself constantly drawing system authority aggro, there are likely other... problems you ought to address.

regular firearms is the same issue..... Acquire/verify, check line of fire, shoot..there is so little room for a "sorry"

What do you want to see?  I always recommend people check out Eta Carinae at about 8k out.  It's a giant star, and just gorgeous, but there's not a lot on that side of the bubble besides it (this also means many more uncatalogued systems to get your name on, and more money made in the process.  Another option would be to head out to one of the colonies on the way to Colonia.  I like Omega, myself.  For ship?  The dolphin would do alright, but if you have the money, I'd grab an Asp Explorer or Diamondback Explorer.  Whatever ship you take, follow these general rules:
1: Smallest A rated power plant you can get.
2: A rate those thrusters (D rated for more jump range, but it's gonna suck when you try to land on a planet).
3: Smallest D rated shields you can get.
4: Biggest A rated scoop you can
5: An AMFU
6: A G class SRV bay (to refill the AMFU)
7: D rate everything else (D has the lowest weight)
8: G5 increased range the FSD and you should be able to hit 40-50ly.
This is my concept

PS. This also probably needs to be moved to general/game talk.

But drawing swords was of course an often thing, because kiri-sute gomen, the legal right to strike commoners for affronts to their honor (perceived or not), used to be a thing. Bushido was more a code for samurai to follow, rather than a code that samurai followed. Sums up the spirit of Open mode nicely, that.

That's a fair comparison.

That was a thing until Tokugawa Shogunate actually. The government during that time stood away from the samurai as a warrior, pushing them into more administrative roles putting more and more restriction over the caste. One of a such was giving a commoner a fancy right to kill samurai in self-defence and while we could argue about reality, it was a quite groundshaking law for the Japanese standards. Moreover, even samurai couldn't pull out swords at each other easily. The government also introduced a pretty complex bureaucracy in case of ANY murder, even creating idea of "legal vendetta".

The latter was the very reason why 47 ronins had to commit seppuku after their revenge as their vendetta wasn't registered, thus illegal. The contemporary shogun wanted to grant them amnesty but he couldn't do that due to law binds - and in fear to create a dangerous law precedence.

Edit: Yes, sorry. I am a well-versed hobbyist Japanese historian (without degree) who wrote several essays on that subject (future MA in Political Studies).

As interesting as this is, the point we're all trying to make is this: you have to be either *trying* or be *stupid* to get the system authority to aggro you in a RES.

Not System Authorities - the Powerplay agents that are usually neutral to you. I just realized I wrote "authority ship" instead of "powerplay ship" in the original post. I am sorry for the misunderstanding.

Ah. Point taken. Sorry about that.

It's okay. Error was on my part.

Now... it's confession time. I just got my first friendly fire bounty in a long time, pure stupidity on my part. I use voice attack, locked a guy in a wing of two, gave the voice command to attack my target, then switched (before the command parsed) to his wingmate who hadn't yet been scanned so my fighter attacked the not yet scanned guy. Oops... And purely my fault.
