Elite: Game talk

Ah, but you said it yourself.

"You can kill someone else as much as the next guy"

Therefore, you are just as capable of villainous deeds as anyone else, which makes you the same, no?

Plus in th context of the game, NPCs are as much people as players are, and likewise have as much reason to live as the Thargoids. So surely if youve killed an NPC youre just as bad as anyone else whos fired a gun

Rebecca HailWars and conflict in general is an incredible catalyst for technology and are not seldomly caused by greed. Saying that wars leave 'nothing but destruction' in their wake is plainly wrong.

That's perhaps true for those who survive the Wars and can rebuild from the ruins. For all the thousands or millions of corpses that were left to rot on battlefields your statement means nothing.

Perhaps it makes me the same as others, but I did have to deal with killing another person IRL once. Some might do this on a day-to-day basis and are fine with it, but it certainly ain't the case here.

And no, NPCs are not people. Unless you can prove to me that the Elite:Dangerous game hosts a fully sentient AI I will continue to see the NPCs as what they are - 0s and 1s.

Fun discussion. Hey, while out in the Pleiades, I've:

-Rescued 1,112 refugees from damaged starports.
-Transported 840 tons of Basic Medicines to these same starports.
-Transported 7,936 tons of repair materials to The Oracle
-Rescued 66 damaged and occupied escape pods from the damaged starports (the fleet pic of my Type-7 is me doing just that)
-Had one extremely close, non-routine encounter with a Thargoid Cyclops.

And other than the collision with the Thargoid, have experienced no real danger to myself or my ship. Lots of fun though.

This is in addition to punching pirates, protecting my region of space, and keeping BGS interactions non-nuclear by delivering Meta-Alloys. Some people talk, other people do.

So? That doesn't make your statement any less wrong.

The majority tends to survive wars.

"I will continue to see the NPCs as what they are - 0s and 1s."

Well then so are the Thargoids, and it's completely fine to shoot them up

Unless we succeed in nuking this place to kingdom come I guess some will always survive. Doesn't make my statement any less right.

There's no historical precedence for that. Your statement wasn't right in the first place. It literally cannot be any less right.

As much as that might be true, the whole development and storytelling regarding the Thargoids in this game are a perfect showcase for human behaviour imho.

Since we're playing a game and nothing that we do has any impact on our RL, we can do what we want. Yet in such a situation where you know that there be no repercussions coming to you - how will you act?

Will you be a sensible person, respectful of what others do and try to achieve? Or will you lose it completely and enjoy ruining the day of others?

Again, I'm not talking about the various ways you can play this game. Even Piracy and so on is totally fine with me even though I would never do it personally.

If you're faced with the knowledge that you can do what you want and to whomever you want - will you still retain a conscience?

And please don't come with the notion that certain behaviour in the game is simply Roleplay and that the RL individual behind it is completely different.

You only need to take a look at one of the latest Logbook entries to see crystal clear evidence of that not being the case.

History is written by the victors, and they will write it as they see fit. Do you know everything that ever was recorded and then lost? No. Nobody does. But just because it hasn't been written down and survived into our age doesn't mean it never happened.

Uhuh. You clearly have absolutely no idea what historians do.

There is no historical precedence for nuking a country to kingdom come or a war with no survivors. No amount of deflecting will get you past that.

I don't know why you're so hell-bent on spouting your nihilistic bullshit, but your statements are plain and simple wrong.

For all intents and purposes, it never happened. If no one knows and all those affected are long dead and their descendants are unaware it has no effect.

Where in blazes did I say that someone did nuke a country to kingdom come? I said unless someone would do that.

Reading a sentence fully is helpful instead of blurting out like you do.

And that's the end of this discussion for me.

Then both sides cannot claim any validity of being it having happened or not happened. So everyone is equally right and wrong.

Back to the start.

I want to remind to everybody that nice thing on the discussions is that even when any side doesn't agree with each other, it still may rise interesting themes and topics to think about, when the opinions are properly presented. Let's preserve the nice thing.
