Sure. I'm more asking what makes sense from a lore/rp standpoint. Like would a vessel owned by a pilot in the naval auxiliary reasonably have a Federal/Imperial designation? Something like ISV (Imperial Support Vessel)? Wondering if that would make sense since it's not actually part of the Imperial fleet.

Maybe, but there's nothing canon on it written yet that I know of. INV and FNS are the only known designations. Also, it's mentioned somewhere in the background info of Frontier: First Encounters that the Alliance's ship prefix is (or was) AJN, for Alliance Joint Navy.

Re: the ship naming conventions, The Federal X-ship frames have "FSS" (Federal Security Service) emblazoned on them, and while I've never seen an AI use the prefix I like to think it'd be acceptable for people wanting to go the Auxiliary route. Technically the FSS are more like "Federation Space Marshals" but until the great Thargoid draft goes out, that's close enough for me.

Likely shortening the faction names in most of cases, but mostly (except for caps) these are part of the ID - e.g. ARC-17 in case of Astrobiology Research Cooperative (FPF's minor faction).

So I was bounty hunting and decided to head out to repair after I destroy this type 10 I’m shooting at, but I get in its face and for some reason decide to boost and try to turn at the last second only to hit its side and blow up...

Nah, it really doesn't matter. It's only really important for one's own headcanon (how you personally view the universe and how it should "be" ).
