ZackaralCheating is possible in ED ?
Yes.
A common example is where unscrupulous players use task-kill on their ED client to avoid destruction or defeat.
It's known as Combat Logging, or CLogging and doing it can land you on many player KoS / blacklists and potentially a ban from FDEV.

I have always wondered about CLogging, only discovered in the last month or so it was a thing. In all my gaming experience, never thought to task-kill just to survive, actually.
Thing is, how do you know whether it's a deliberate action by the player, or a dodgy connection? I suppose if a CMDR Clogs regularly, it can be tracked, but only in certain cases.

There is no 100% way for other players to know if the connection was deliberately killed or if it was a networking issue. The onus is on the player to choose their game mode responsibly if they suspect they may have a dodgy connnection and refrain from playing in Open or Private Groups where your disconnects are going to affect other players.
Only FDEV have access to all the telemetry from our connections to their servers, and patterns of disconnects when in combat situations will be obvious to them. I believe that they are going to factor this in to their "Karma" mechanics for punishing those who pursue undesirable behaviour, including cheating and griefing.

I agree, if you have a dodgy connection, then rather play Solo. At least you are not forced into a specific mode, so have this option.
That being said, I traded in Open the other day, it was as boring as heck, so switched to the PG, which was slightly less boring. Might brave a CG in Open some time.

Open CGs can be very exciting! I have played as both Trader and Pirate and in doing so I think I've become better at both roles.
As a Trader I know how to evade a pirate (and if I am caught, give them cargo - it's cheaper than rebuy!).
As a Pirate I know to make my demands reasonable and look after my reputation.
Piracy is most certainly the funnest of the two, obvs

Marra MorganYeah it can be very quiet in Open away from the popular hubs.

Do all pirates in Open give you the option to drop cargo? I've read on the Frontier Forums about a CMDR who was a 'friendly' pirate, and made the request before shooting, but was getting tired of being ignored and ships just jumping out, so said that from then on, he would shoot first, and not even ask questions later.
I don't mind coming across a pirate CMDR that at least gives me a chance to dump my cargo before shooting, if I haven't managed to evade. That is legit piracy (well, as 'legit' as piracy can be, anyway). Also, what if you Interdict a new CMDR, who still needs to figure out how to dump cargo? You need to either give them a chance to figure it out, or even tell them how to. Ofc, it could also be a delaying tactic while the victim's FSD charges.
But just shooting for the heck of it, ramming people for the heck of it, or otherwise ganking/griefing, that really IS boring, and will keep me out of Open.

In Open is nothing guaranteed. For some cmdrs it is exactly this, for what they like and play in open despite they are not so called PvPers. It means that you need to think where you are going and if is your ship properly equipped ... and mainly if you go to dangeros area be ready and have prepared "backup" route/plan if things do not works as you expected.

If they don't, they are not a pirate.
My objective is your cargo. If I send you to the rebuy screen, I've failed that objective.
But if a trader doesn't comply then killing them is a necessity as I value keeping to my word and upholding my reputation.

That's my kind of piracy

I'll get an alert if they start charging FSD whilst stalling, at which point I'll blow their drives off.
If they are new and don't know how to jettison, they need to tell me! I don't mind talking someone through the panels and how to do it, it's helping someone learn the game after all.
And whilst I take a pride in playing the kind of pirate I think most people want to see, there are those who aren't interested in your cargo and will blow you up without a word.
And that's fine - it's all part of the game.
Worrying about their reasons for doing so or indulging in armchair psychology is a complete waste of time. You're better off getting wiser to the mechanics, learning how to High-Wake out of trouble and having the last laugh on those trying to gank you!

As I am typing my response the little guy opened fire on me. At first I waited for them to stop and send a demand message, you know like maybe a warning shot, but they didn't, just kept firing. So I deployed my hard points and allowed the rage to swell in me and I opened fire... I just couldn't believe that this little grasshopper would open fire on me.
When their shields dropped and they turned to run I thought about pulling back... but the rage had over taken me and it was too late for them. Seeing their lifeless ship floating off venting atmosphere and fuel brought on a since of sadness over me... this was a pirate that didn't have to die.
The moral of the story is don't be impatient, some people are slow typers, especially on xbox.

RyaustalSince we are all on the topic of piracy, at the last CG I was in route with a load full of titanium in my anaconda when I was interdicted by a player pirate in a diamondback explorer. Now I recognize that I have PLENTY of cargo to spare and this little diamond back cannot possibly carry more than 10-20T, so we come to a stop and they message me with "HI."

Wasn't a pirate.

Frankly I'm not sure how you pull off piracy on the console, considering how unfriendly its messaging system is.
