Suicidewinder, startership, back-to-basics-ship, when fed up with Imperial Cutter

I don't think it's a stupid question at all. The Sidewinder is pretty limited when it comes to anything aggressive, even with a lot of engineering. In my opinion, the only serious role the Sidewinder could be used for is exploring. Of course, you'd be making insane numbers of shorter jumps, looking for fuel stars, but it can be done. I keep one around for two reasons. First, as my last resort for handling bounties I might acquire. Second, in case I have friends over and their kids want to try their hand at the game...I don't feel bad if they lose my Sidewinder. Oh, and once in a blue moon, if I want to take a Data Carrier mission, I'll breakout the Sidewinder just for giggles. It's pretty cozy when you're flying in VR.

Sidewinders are great gnats. Cheap rebuy. When the thing you're trying to do is keeping people from doing what they're trying to do, the Sidey is a great choice. Otherwise though, it's only good for data delivery missions to build rep and get into
Before we had bookmarks in the game, I used Sidewinders.

It's not bad if you engineer it, the Sidewinder can do most roles in the game adequately as long as you're smart about it, but obviously it's outperformed by just about any other combat ship. Just keep in kind that for any suggestions you get, the Eagle will almost always be better, and cost more or less the same.
That being said, the Sidewinder is pretty great with a couple of rail guns, you just have to be wary of heat levels and time your shots accordingly. Sturdy mods can lower the thermal load a bit, but then you have to deal with the weight, which is noticeable on such a light ship, you can lose quite a bit of speed. Alternatively the Enforcer cannons Powerplay weapon, is a great choice for some DPS, especially with incendiary effects.
The sidewinder's also an amazing candidate for Enhanced drives, really boosts its speed so long as you keep an eye on your weight.
Here's a build with "best" rolls done on it, with "extreme" rolls you'll get somewhere around 545m/s, so that gives you a rough idea of speed for weight and the likes.

So there's some degree of flying ability entailed with how successful a ship build will be.

Brynhild HervorsdottirOnce saw a Sidewinder successfully pirate another player in a Python.

Or pirating a Corvette in a Sidey?

Silver TafferFollowing hints from another Cmdr I took a stock Sidey into a High RES and just followed the security ships around sticking the boot in now and again and totaled over a Mill in Creds in just over an hour of total fun!
in a CZ, in a Sidey, as long as you don't open fire first, you will be ok...it's good earning

Sethsepticeye1Hey any fellow commanders in imperial space? Or part of the thargoid watch division? I'm trying to find any stations in imperial space that have been attacked by thargoids
None so far, Only stations attacked by Thargoids are out in the Pleiades cluster, which is a little ways outside of the bubble. There's been no Thargoid attacked stations inside the bubble, yet. That includes Imperial space.
