You can get a NPC pilot for your SLF, but as far as I know, no NPC for the Gunner role.

At the risk of being pedantic - the large ships are great, regardless of multiplayer. The small are very nimble, the medium have definite strengths, but nothing packs a wallop quite like the large ships. Just because they support multicrew does not mean they require it. You have control over everything as a solo pilot.

If you want that 'immersive' multi-crew feel in SOLO, and you have not already checked it out, take a look at Voice Packs. You can create a crew, give orders, and they will carry them out.

I figured it would go without saying it is a matter of taste. In solo, I have had no issues. If one is flying a ship that rates stations or just wants cockpit AI, I don't see another way to do it in SOLO. I would expect a 'lag' if in one's 'immersive' perception, the HCS VPs represented humans, there would be a slight lag.

Why not fly larger/medium ships if you dont use multicrew ?
I play in open but mainly solo, never tried multicrew and i am flying larger ships...
...and as far as i know npc crew members are just for show unless you use a fighter.

Stryker AuneI fly in open, and love my conda. 99% of the time it's just me, myself, and I piloting it. Multicrew is okay, but in my opinion winging up is more fun.

I played for 2 years mostly in solo. Never imagined going into open. Tried it in Beta and was a bit intimidated to be truthful. But I joined a wing (Silverbacks) on a whim and, after meeting up in game with fellow wing-members, and forging friendship and teamwork....wow......just wow!

Maybe it was just me being very utterly unlucky, though.
It's quite annoying when you just want to fly around in your own slow pace, earning around 500k-700k per hour, minding your business.
If there was some kind of bonus to fly in Open Mode, like +30% credits boost to wage out risks - I'd try something else than Solo and PG.
