Heh, every day’s a school day! I checked Selene’s blueprints cos I was sure heavy duty came with a mass penalty......then I read the small print! Looks like my Exploraconda is heading back to Kuk
Thanks for the heads-up 07

Heavy duty does, actually. The fun thing is lightweight has a mass of 0, and all mass penalties are in percentages.

Yep, I have lightweight on the ‘Conda, didn’t realise it was zero mass. Having armor with zero mass seems .......odd!

LyonhaertOdd that there's a G4 mod for shield cell banks but no engineer that offers it.
Same with G5 for fuel scoops

PhelboreScubadogGmanharmonELvira Martuuk, Felicity Farseer, Professor Palin. FSD upgrades are very nice to have starting out; it really opens up the galaxy for you. Start the mining grind early for Selene Jean, as well. Your sanity will thank you for it.
Yup, that's what I did. Well, I'm not looking to get Selene's help, but with a primary role as an explorer, Elvira, Felicity and Palin are definite musts. I just finished engineering my Anaconda--which will be my long distance explorer-- and I'm almost done with my Chieftain. After that, I'm heading back to Colonia Dream (I'll send for my Chieftain once I get back).
The heavy-duty modification to lightweight armor adds no weight, it's a must for any explorer.
As I understood it, the benefits of the heavy duty mod only apply to weapon damage, it doesn't provide any additional protection from kinetic malfunctions.

Brynhild HervorsdottirAs I understood it, the benefits of the heavy duty mod only apply to weapon damage, it doesn't provide any additional protection from kinetic malfunctions.
This is not true. Armour resistances and hardness are taken into account prior to the breach damage being applied.
The Heavy Duty mod adds minor resistances to Kinetic, Thermal & Explosive damage, however it also adds hull Integrity, which can help if you drop too hard onto a planet surface and your shields give way, it will also increase your endurance in a fight giving you more 'hit points' from the increased integrity, which is essentially resistance to all but Heat & Caustic damage not just weapon damage.
Module malfunctions come from several sources.
Heat & Caustic damage which directly effects modules & hull integrity, the more damage taken the higher the risk of a malfunction.
You can also receive direct damage to modules while shields are down from all weapons as they have a breach chance and breach damage percentage. Penetrator Payload Missiles, Super Penetrator Rails etc. do extra damage to modules &/or multiple modules.
Malfunctions can also be triggered by experimental weapon effects such as Scramble Spectrum.
Remote Release Flechette Launchers (where the explosion bypasses shields) damage modules directly.
Your best bet against module damage from most weapons is an MRP (module reinforcement package) or two. multiples increase the percentage of damage reduction to modules, at one MRP, 60% of the damage taken to the module is absorbed by the MRP until the MRP 'hit points' are spent, two MRP's, 84% of the damage is absorbed etc.
The best thing to reduce heat damage to modules is using Heat Sinks.
Your best bet against Caustic damage is also Heat Sinks because, once your ship starts taking damage from Caustic you can overheat your ship to around 175% to 'burn off' the Caustic substance, then use a heat sink to drop your heat.
You can also purchase Meta-Alloy Hull Reinforcement Packages which give you 3% Caustic resistance each.
The Lightweight Armour on your ship is your unmodified hull, basically the mass is included in the ship mass statistic, this armour is so you can take hits from stray bullets and other debris without breaching your hull.

Hmmm....here I was, all set to store my Chieftain and fire up my Anaconda for the trip back to Colonia, and now you've given me pause to consider visiting Selene after all. Thank ya, kindly!

Also look into heavy-duty armor with the lightweight modification. It costs a lot more, but often adds a lot of armor and resists for very little weight.

BolasieI always used to play solo, as my main play was exploring, then moved to Mobius. Cannot believe I am saying this but i genuinely think I will switch to Open. It has taken until I reached a stage where it will be kind of exciting and part of the game rather than a massive setback to get clobbered, and hopefully even losing at unwanted (I think i really mean unexpected) PvP will get my combat to another level. I hate Selene and her stupid mining obsession btw! I did 'git gud' at mining because of her though so I shouldn't really complain!
