There is a way to automatically update if you are PC.
Xbox and PS4 has to be done manually.

I've been trying to figure this out myself, but it just gives me a headache and makes me want to give my laptop 'The Screwdriver'.

If you're on PS4 or XBox, yes it's all manual.

PC players can use Inara API.

Ingrid ElfridrHeya guys, just a quick question. I've been working on this sh*t for weeks. Looking for that annoying shiny, explosive painite. I've visited a number of systems, searching ring systems and planetary surfaces. It is hiding from me and it's not like I can flush the stuff out of a foxhole with a flamethrower

To get painite the old-fashioned way (mining) seek out pristine metallic rings. I usually have good luck in Dulos, in those bands of the ring that look most dense (brightest) on approach. Bring a prospector limpet controller to find rocks with what you need.

Awesome, thanks for giving a system name! I've been scouring websites for the last two and a half hours.

You could also try PM-ing Cmdr The Presence of the Silverbacks- he has a nose for Painite like you would not believe 07

Correction! Bhare is the system I had in mind. It has convenient stations for refuel/resupply and sale of whatever you also pick up that you need not haul away.

Regarding James Hussar's suggestion, make sure it's an A-rated prospector if you go looking for your own Painite again.

Okay, thanks so much guys. I've taken notes and will head out tomorrow to see what I can find. I really appreciate this!

While it can be a pain to get the modules and configure your ship and do the research to find approximately where to go after all the things you need for the various engineers, what I will say is that it kind of forces you to get exposure to some of the types of careers you might not otherwise consider. I am primarily an explorer. That's how I started a year and a half ago, and that's what I am now. I couldn't stand the old way engineering worked, so once I moved to Colonia I had zero interest to go back to the core systems. Then they changed the engineering process. I made the trek back to the core systems and began a pathway to engineer certain aspects of my ships. I got to try out combat (intentional), mining, trading. I got what I needed and engineered what I wanted. So, if I had to, I could certainly do an adequate job of the mining and trading (I doubt I'll ever git gud at combat). I at least know enough now that I don't particularly care for those careers. My choice is now no longer out of ignorance of the process. So, I'll give the developers kudos for bringing that aspect to the game.

Please let me know how it goes. Since trading with the EIC is not an option on XBox, I have one additional resource I can PM you if necessary.
