RoguePilotHi everyone. New player here. (11 days in). I'm in the starting systems (LHS 3447/Eravate) and ready to make my first purchase. Can an someone please point me to a nearby station that has a Dolphin for sale? I've been to about 18 different systems in this area, and have come up with dust bunnies. Thanks!

Just to make sure, you do have Horizons Season Pass as well? If not, that's why you're not finding it. Otherwise EDDB is accurate and correct. And they're pointing to Ackerman Market, Eravate system.

Oh wow. I don't think i have it. I'll jump on it now. Thanks!

ACK ! ! !

I was just checking out my disc case and it says "Elite Dangerous: Legendary Edition" and sure enough inside it says on a small piece of paper: "Includes Horizons Season Pass with 1,000 Frontier Points".
Which is great!

But what are Frontier points for?

Frontier Points are currency for buying in-game cosmetic items for your ship and pilot. You buy Frontier Points with real money. So your Elite came with some free points to buy cosmetic items. You can do this from the game's main menu.

For anyone else, Elite Dangerous: Legendary Edition is the PS4's physical version on disk.

I'm currently on the XB1X with a massive 65" Samsung 4K-HDR Tv and 5.1 Onkyo/KEF surround system. It's . . . . an experience, lol.
I love this game so much, I am planning on scooping it up for my PC during the coming Steam summer sale.

Thanks so much! Loving this game. The first 4-5 days were a serious nightmare, but I pushed through and learned what I needed to. Now I'm really hooked.
Just bought the Dolphin and still have 4 million credits left over. Any performance or frameshift mods I should be looking at?

:P

Since I do the smuggling thing with mine, and the occasional tourist long distance sight seeing thing (unless I get the offer to hand them over to a slaver), I went d rated, or as light as possible mods. I engineeres the FSD for long range jumps, and I did go dirty drives on the thrusters. Standard biweaves and of course a fuel scoop. I don't bother with weapons, just added weight, a couple of heat sinks for added sneaky sneaky, or if I get too close to a star while scooping, and I keep a system lock and ready to load if I fail an interdiction. Other than that it's rather simple ship.

Get a fuel scoop. It's an absolute must if you plan on venturing outside the "Bubble" (the core human occupied space), but even if you're going to remain within the Bubble it's still good to have, as it'll save a lot of time and hassle since you won't have to dock somewhere to refuel every few jumps. And if you're doing passenger missions it's good to have. A lot of passengers are fussy about getting scanned, and you'll almost certainly be scanned whenever you dock at a spaceport.

Also I wouldn't recommend going crazy with the upgrades just yet, not until you've got a sizable bank account built up. That 4,000,000 credits isn't going to go as far as you might think, especially if your ship gets destroyed and you start running into the cost of rebuys. I know for my ships a single rebuy will cost me a couple million each time. So no matter what make sure you maintain enough credits for at least one or two rebuys. You don't want to sink all your money into a nice beautiful ship configuration only to lose it and end up back in the basic Sidewinder because you can't afford the rebuy.

I wholeheartedly disagree.

You must upgrade your ship as soon as you can, however make sure you have a rebuy or two in the bank as you upgrade.

Upgrading will make your ship faster, sturdier and overall better. Thrusters, Shields, FSD and Power Plant should be first.

Engineer as soon as you get A rated gear, even with the lowest engineering upgrade you can apply an experimental, go with Dirty Drive tuning and Drag Drives for your thrusters, then it doesn't matter how heavy you are you will still have great speed and maneuverability.

FSD, engineer with Increased Range and Mass Manager for jumping long distances and pure efficiency.

Shields, engineer with Thermal Resistance and Force block. Other options can do just as well if not better but that is what I would do early on.

Power Plant, engineer with Overcharged or Armoured depending on your power needs with experimental Thermal Spread.

Getting scanned at starports is pretty easy to avoid once you get used to aligning your self to the front of the station and moving in quickly, eg. boost towards the station and about 2km out drop gear and coast through, no real need for silent running once you have a good technique down. Planetary bases are a little more tricky. waiting for the patrol to tell you they are coming back to base to refuel is a good time to make your approach.

Standard procedure for me is to not buy a ship until I can be all the A-rated modules I need for the configuration I want and two rebuys. I use Coriolis to figure out the proposed costs.

Hey guys. First, I want to thank everyone for the feedback.

One thing I'm confused about . . .

The first thing I did when I bought the Dolphin was to move my auto-dock cpu into the new ship. I put it in the only free slot I saw, under "optional internal".
I really need the auto-dock. Ever since i first got it 2 days ago, quality of in-game life has rose a lot and I seem to actually be making more money.

Moving on . . .

A fuel scoop does sound extremely useful, but I don't see an empty slot to put it in, so where should it go?

and,

When looking at other potential upgrades (like a better FSD), the FS-drives listed appear to have stats with lower performance.
For example: My current FSD is the 4E. I assume I need a 3E or 2E or 1E? or is it the other way around? Maybe i need a 4D or 4C or 4B?
But when I look at the 3E, it says the "optimised mass" is -71% (in bright red letters/numbers), and the "max fuel per jump" (also in threatening red letters/numbers), says -39%.
Some of the other drives appear to have even more stats in the red. So red is a bad thing right?
Shouldn't I be seeing better/more expensive drives with with positive/blue stats instead?

HELP!

Modules are classified by size and grade as follows:

1-8 (Dolphin can fit a max size FSD of Class 4)

A-E, descending. A-rated modules are the statistical best modules, B-rated have the most integrity and mass, D-rated have the lightest mass and integrity. E-class modules should be upgraded as soon as you are able; C-class are simply middle-of-the-road and can serve as a stepping stone until you can B- or A-rate a module.

TL;DR buy the 4A FSD if you can, engineer for increased jump range and Deep Charge experimental effect. Then watch the light-years disappear behind you as your galaxy grows a bit smaller.
