Big ship = easier to shoot.

VashtaOr perhaps unlock ships once your pilots licence scores you capable.

You do as it's an endgame purpose? no...Elite is based on Paper-Rock-Scissors....so also a small ship like a Viper Mk3 can bring down a Corvette :p...it's not like warcraft where the goal is to level up asap......bigger ship doesn't mean better....in fact they are just more complicated but therefor better..it would not be good to have a fixed predictable path....

I agree with Red here.. I've been monitoring the forums for Elite: Dangerous and there's this one Brit that wants all ships below his Corvette to be nerfed because he works on this attitude of Bigger is Better. No matter how many times we have to tell him that it's not the ship that's the problem, it's the pilot; he won't hear any of it, trying to work out it's not the skill (of the pilot), it's the physics of the ships.

Frankly the whole thing about putting ships behind a grind wall will create more of the self-entitlement issues I've described. Couple this the fact that in an environment where players can end up being against players -- it's not the equipment that's the problem; it's the skill of the pilot (player).

Better to leave things as is, and -- as the Dark Souls players always say -- git gud.

That's not uncommon. I'd say I see the "my big ship should never be able to die to a small one" argument at least once a week.

Small/medium ships are more fun anyway. You really can't beat the charm of a Cobra III either.

I think Vashta means your Pilots Federation ranks i.e Harmless ---> Elite.

My FDL is SUPER charming.

It does seem to melt hearts as it flies on by.

There there would be the question of which PF rank do you lock ships behind. Three rankings and plenty of players like me who are at or near Elite in one ranking, but low on another.

I could not agree more! Mediums are way more fun I have found.

The idea that bigger ships are better just because they are bigger is plainly ridiculous. A 777 is big, and is great at passenger missions. I wouldn't fancy one in a dogfight with an F18 though. The bigger is better idea misses the point that the different ships are just different, not better or worse - they are different tools for different jobs.

I suppose the actual question in need of asking is "Is there such a thing as the "Perfect" ship?"
I'm pretty certain the answer is "No"

That's a vague and ambiguous question that is clearly interpreted differently by each individual person, and even then the same person may have a different ship in mind according to specific role they are thinking about.

For example,
I have a dropshop, and I love it for piracy.
The dolphin makes smuggling and real delight.
I enjoy the chief in ship to ship combat.

So yes, there are perfect ship(s), for given tasks and personal taste.

Those are imperfect professions, I don't engage in. The Vulture is the perfect ship for my gamestyle.
