Elite: Game talk

AHumm... right... then where did all that expert advice originated from? OMG! It was all just a LARP!

There are ways to know things without needing to be involved in the fighting. Like having been present throughout the two years(ish) of the war narrative and paying attention to its various mechanisms.

Thargoids also only send the drones to do their fighting which are not involved in the reproduction process, they're just the end result of it. Unless I get something wrong about what you're saying.

Also, did you really have to take a picture of your face in a helmet on the night side of a planet, with an active flashlight pointed directly at the camera? Because that's what will get you a gravity curse.

Elite Dangerous Astrometrics

I was looking over it this last weekend and found the hidden memes hilarious!

I'm thinking about turning the Mandalay into a Passenger ship for Long-range Exploration Missions, should be interesting, other than that, having been there, I know why the Galactic center isn't explored so much:

Stars are very sparse and many times out of a ship jump range, plus the router is uncharted so it doesn't work, you have to do the Nav by selecting the systems yourself...

That's where the Fleet Carriers comes on their own...

So, you are like a consultant who has never seen the action? Ouch...
Also, it seemed to be out of reach for you to figure out that I was talking about hypothetical human NPC warriors fighting the thargoids.
Amazing.

Your bizarre rant about my absolutely wonderfully artistic avatar image made zero sense. Are you going straight from thargoid related consulting to deep space photography? LOL, I mean, why not. You sounded almost convincing in one while having zero experience. Why not try another, hopefully les lethal to poor expendable fighting folk.

BTW, I have no idea who is on that picture or where it was taken and by whom. I found it on my ships computer.

Wait! Was it taken by you? Is it out of focus and hazy because you could not get the camera close enough to your eye?
I only ask because you seem to know the details of the seen so well.
Wait... there are more images. Ohh... it really was you... OMG!
Kids, OUT!

Actually, I've seen the action myself a fair amount in the early months before shifting to evacuation work, thanks very much.

... and I could actually still get a camera close to my eye, so if it wasn't you who took that picture, nor me (and I took no such picture of anybody, because I'd have told them to shut off that light), you should really ask yourself who did.

Thinder I'm thinking about turning the Mandalay into a Passenger ship for Long-range Exploration Missions,

In my opinion, long range exploration/sightseeing missions are a waste of time and not worth the payout. Sightseeing does not pay until you return to the start location. Sure, 50 mil for a trip to SAG-A or Colonia sounds great. Stack in 10 missions and earn 500 mil. But for sightseeing you have to make it all the way back to the starting point to get paid. You'd earn way more than that surveying planets and exo along the way, and much more per hour spent doing one way repetitive Robigo runs.

You're probably right, I've done some in the past, it's tedious...

Vanity is the valid point for exploration....

Enjoyment. Enjoyment is the reason for all gameplay, IMO

If I'm terribly honest my main drive to play elite is a complete lack of viable alternatives.

It really is quite rich with opportunities for gameplay. I have so many options of games to play, so many stories I haven't explored, yet I always choose Elite because I have so many options within it.

It was largely the story which drew me in (am a very story-driven person by nature) to follow Elite… at least, in the last two years. Initially, I got it because I also like spaaaaaaace (theatrical value), but didn’t stick with it much on the console. Azimuth saga events made me pay more attention again and I had a PC which at least met minimum operating conditions for 4.0/Odyssey… so off I went.

Then… I guess I kind of stayed around for the gameplay and also to write little (sometimes not so little) stories of questionable quality and sanity*. Sometimes with in-game [story] events and lore drops in mind or as a background… sometimes not. Of course the game narrative also still matters a good amount to me (which is why I’ve been quite annoyed at the lack of narrative developments for the Titan war arc and the threads dangled throughout it, and I’m keeping a rather close eye on this recent one development).

*As you might guess by that profile picture which I so thought I was going to get told off by Artie for. Believe it or not, it has its own in-character reasoning to exist.

Certainly, and that's why it stands above say, Star Citizen or NMS (Which I've been through both, they're woefully unfinished). But that's not a high mark. most of the game is obfuscated or hidden behind the dismal engineering system. The core of what they have is quite good, which, is the primary selling point, but it feels like a starting point rather than a main point to work from. I sincerely hope they start fleshing out the systems of the game, and perhaps we're about to see that with powerplay (A useless system atm) 2.0, if it gives people more of a point to work with the game, it'll make it stand out, hopefully keep the lights on for frontier (A prospect quite up in the air at the moment) and get them going in a better direction.

But if I look outward at what other games offer cooperative multiplayer, a persistent world, and the ability to fly ships and do ground missions in a scifi setting, it's... this or nothing really. So that's kind of where it is for now. Elite will frequently leave me wishing it was something more, but the potential is certainly there.

EDIT: Oh! And it lets me use the HOTAS! Very few games use those.

Yeah. HOTAS makes it a lot more playable than some other games, but ED has more to it when you think of it: It is stable, doesn't require too strong a PC to be played at good resolutions with reasonable frame rates, looks gorgeous and has very few bugs.

On the negative side for me, I still have the mediocre boxed FoV once disembarked using VR...

THIS is what I see once disembarked...

For playability I'd compare it to DCS, I can play ED at full res in VR with an average of 89.9 FPS (over a 5 jump distance between Naren and Robigo), no need for O.C or multi-threading...

Rayman.nah, not enough real axi cmdrs and too many lazy donkeys refuusing to do vents bombing. Otherwise Raijin would die now.

If you’ll read this thread, the consensus seems to be shifting more toward “Frontier doing Frontier things keeping the Titan alive”.

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/did-you-guys-increase-the-health-of-raijin-or.628786/

And if Frontier actually cared more about the whole Titan arc it would not have devolved into a stale, boring cleanup job to keep some of the players occupied while they work on the Power Pissing Play contest. Like supporting the narrative and making there be reasons to feel invested in it instead of “Well, this is the main thing to do right now”, because (<---) this, alone, gets boring. I’ve seen more chatter about things in the two days we’ve had these GalNet articles about something happening than in some time regarding anything lore relevant.

Not counting Powerplay 2 talk because Frontier is making publicity about it so of course attention will be directed at that.

ah ofc classic frontier but atleast free arx for mandalay

Emily Valeforhopefully keep the lights on for frontier
I'd say, if you visit their website, Elite is the last of those big 'showcase' tiles of the games they're working on. You can click for ages on the button below to load more articles and press releases to find anything Elite-related. Watch the video they keep running under the 'Welcome to Frontier' text, it's like 15s long looped thing and it features an entire second (or even less lol) of Pee Mk2 footage. Maybe it's a coincidence, and I'm simply overthinking, maybe not. Yet I'm convinced that Frontier should do fine with their dinocoasters-manager games, in case lights go out here. Maybe sunk cost fallacy effect is what really helping Elite.
