StoopidfaceI try to keep heat sinks on board anything with more than one utility slot, but I did not know that the ice reduces you signature. So past 50 an aggressor loses lock on you? Did I get that right?

As far as i know, under 25% and they'll have trouble locking on you or (more efficiently) use silent run with hs but that drops shield.

Thargoid weapons will have trouble with accuracy on a low heated ship.

My Challenger is more armor oriented anyway, plus a lvl 5 spool up time reduction FSD. So silent running is something I should consider when cows start flying over the battlements. So far I only ever used it for smuggling. Hadn't thought of using it in anything combat related. Cheers for the idea!

Bernard of TongerenOr alternatively, if you cant afford it, fly in Solo, less chance of death. Many time when I first started playing i flew without the ability to rebuy, but mostly because I had a plan set to get me the money ASAP. And solo was the place to do it

You do realize hostile NPCs still exist in solo, right? As does the ability to make a silly mistake that results in explosions.

Are the NPCs less nasty in solo? Honestly never even messed around in Solo Play because I almost always have a friend on, and I like multiplayer better in general.

The real adventure is friendship!

NPC appear to be the same in solo as in open. As far as I can tell anyway...

They are no different in Solo vs Open. They'll still wreck you if you're not prepared.

Manually. PS4 does not store save data in a way that is retrievable and/or useful to upload to Inara.

That's correct, until (I think) 10% heat, when it goes up to around 250m, from there on it just increases the hotter you get.

Sounds way better than dropping the shields with silent running.

Just a helpful hint. When boostng away from your assailant, straight lines are their friends, it helps to jink, use your vertical and lateral thrusters to throw off their firing solution. Even if they have gimbaled weapons they switch to fixed when nothing is targeted and it's harder to hit a jinking target.

Make a private group then you can fly with your friends and be a little safer.

This is terrible advice.

NPC's will still spawn in solo play, And if you are learning the game, they can still wreck you.

If you can't afford a rebuy, use a cheaper ship until you've saved it enough.

Stryker Aune's guide to being a slippery snake.

1) plan ahead. What are you going to need?
2) can I afford a rebuy? If not, don't use the damn ship
3) take a moment to Target a star that's within your jump range, and it's not occluded.
4) when things go south, keep calm
5) run like hell. Engage your high wake. DO NOT RUN IN A STRAIGHT LINE. Use vertical and lateral thrusters.
6) If your shields are gone, don't bother with getting them online, your wasting valuable time.
7) boost, boost boost, and throw heatsinks.
8) once the FSD is done charging, turn towards the star, boost to get aligned and jump out of there.

This has saved more times than I can count when things go wrong in CZs.

Thanx for the advice!

What Stryker said. Minus the "keep calm" part. Like most regular folks if you're a new player realizing for the 1st time you just bit off waaay more than you can chew, you're likely going to panic. This is a normal response to fear of imminent death. However, time and conditioning should fix the soiled underpants problem eventually. As a new player you may have no intention of ever being a combat pilot but other players and npcs can take that decision out of your hands. My suggestion is:

1. Once you can afford to buy and fit a cheap secondary ship and have enough left over to re-buy 10 times over, buy it & fit it.
2. Undock with the certain knowledge that you're probably going to die. (this part is key to curbing the panic response when it really matters)
3. Find a signature with a threat level 4 rating and drop in for a visit.
4. Direct rude jesture towards nearest behemoth, clench butt cheeks and run like your life depends on it... cause it does!
5a. Re-buy ship and try again.
5b. You survived. Congratulations! Now go find a threat level 5 and do it all over again.
