Stoopidface 2. Undock with the certain knowledge that you're probably going to die. (this part is key to curbing the panic response when it really matters)

This is good advice in general.

Another piece of advice, don't buy a ship when you can afford it. The price will at least double once it's been fit (I have a 16m Viper MkIV in my fleet, if memory serves). Add enough rebuys to learn to fly it and you're usually looking at 3-5 times base cost. Nothing's more frustrating than a ship you can't fly.

Bernard of TongerenOr alternatively, if you cant afford it, fly in Solo, less chance of death. Many time when I first started playing i flew without the ability to rebuy, but mostly because I had a plan set to get me the money ASAP. And solo was the place to do it

This is terrible advice.

NPC's will still spawn in solo play, And if you are learning the game, they can still wreck you.

If you can't afford a rebuy, use a cheaper ship until you've saved it enough.

You might think so but unless you are dead set on fighting the NPC's instead of boosting out then you might even be right about that.

Sure you can use a cheaper ship, but then we go into an argument between doing a bold strategy and a safe one. Some people dont want to do 50 courior missions to get 5 millions credits, and instead prefer to do 5 trading missions instead

And even if you die without rebuy, you can still go several million credits into debt to get that same ship back and try again. Hell the debt system in game is even very forgiving as its not a 'hard' debt, instead taking off a percentage of your profits

Bold = switch to solo...
What?

Bold=Fly out of the beginning station in open play while still in the Trash Couch. I wound up on the business end of that one but it was still hilarious.

Solo does make acquiring a lot of credits much less risky, less of a chance of being murdered by some *sshole with pack hound missiles, looking for an easy target. Honestly I have too much of a thing for getting into p*ssing contests so even the NPC ships kicked my ass from time to time. Then there were those times when all of the feds would turn on players because of a gunner who can barely aim at a toilet, much less a ship.

When you are ready to get into serious dogfighting learn your ship's capabilities and for the love of Mike learn when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em. You'll pay a lot less in insurance claims.

In fairness, you don't run into that many other players in open except for community goal and capitol systems. And of those relatively rare encounters only a tiny fraction of other players will attack you without provocation.

The "all gankers, all the time" narrative that some like to spin about open is sadly mistaken.

You, my friend, have yet to meet the dregs of the ranks of SDC.

It takes all but one of them to really ruin your day, no matter how rare they are.

Actually, I'm on their Discord, so...

Only you have the power to declare your day ruined because of a video game mishap.

Met them a couple of times, got killed a few times, but got helpful advice at some other times. It's not all black and white.

On the topic of Gankers I definitly agree with Lehman. Or at least in all my time in the game I have yet to meet more than 3 players in the same system (not counting of capitals and community goals and of course player faction HQs for factions with more than 10 players).

Not to mention that if I die to a player then thats just that, the perils of the space age :3

Thousands of systems in the Bubble - I don’t think any group has the personnel to keep them all covered for ganking.

definitly, though i wonder if any of the largest wings ever tried a blocade or something, try to sompletely seal off a CG, though that would require CG's to be locked off in solo or private
20 Aug 2018, 9:36pm
From what I've heard, any group that tries that is typically met with resistance from various other groups and individuals, some of which patrol the CG areas looking specifically for the opportunity to "gank the ganker".

For me I always play in the Open mode.  The few times I ran into someone "who kills for the fun of it", I just chocked it up to experience.  In fact one time I was visiting Dav's Hope for materials and found someone shooting at my ship with his buggy.  After my buggy got killed. (My fault) I launched and chased this guy around for a bit.  It was really entertaining as he thought I was going to open fire on him and I did not for some reason.  Maybe I was enjoying the literal Cat and mouse game I was playing.  Finally went to the nearest station, replaced my buggy and continued my work.  Total cost was one buggy (some 1000 cr) and about 10 minutes of great entertainment.

This game presents something new almost every time I have a PvP interaction.  From shooting to just chat sessions, I am good either way.
