That is related directly to your merchant rank. Higher rank means each job pays more. Secondary factor is your reputation inside the markets that you work for. Biggest lump sum I made was over 200 million credits but that was after a 20,000 LY trip. Made the same on the way back... Blew it all on outfitting my Chieftan, then purchasing and outfitting a Challenger.

My advice would be to hold fire on the Corvette lest it become a grind. Plenty of good ships out there, use them wisely and the Corvette will come to you, and you”ll be ready for it!

Can you afford the maintenance and rebuys for it? It'd suck to blow all your money on one ship only to end up staring at a rebuy screen and having to pick the Sidewinder.

My general rule - don't buy it if you can't afford it.

High paying missions stacking, good trade routes and community goals are currently the most profitable things to do, find some.

But I must say that although Corvette is a good ship (I have one and it cost me a lot of time or a regular gameplay, I didn't grinded for it) and I like it, there is a lot of fun in smaller ships as well, for example in a very versatile Python (one of my favorite ships). I think that I can say that I had more fun before-Corvette with various ships and various activities while closing to the goal of buying a Corvette than after that. There is no need to rush.

One valuable tip for after you are able to acquire the ship: don't die. As Johnny Cash said you gotta know when to hold em and know when to fold em. A year and a half with only six insurance claims.

Part of what makes this game so entertaining is that when outfitting a ship there is no one right build. I highly doubt that many people outfitted their Alliance ships like I have, yet they are able to accomplish what they outfitted their ship for.
