ScubadogI've generally seen that doing passenger missions nets you nice chunks of $$, but you will benefit from carrying the largest First Class payload you can afford. Larger passenger volume with better class over longer distances get you more money, as a rule.

I've done quite a bit of testing on this and found that cabin size makes no difference for bulk passengers (the kind where you can stick more than one mission in a cabin). First class pays more, but you carry fewer. The end result, assuming you fill the cabin either way, is the same. In my experience, this holds for credits, reputation, influence, cargo and material rewards.

Regarding Passenger Missions:

  • Look for a System where the Stations are far inside (100k or maybe more)
  • Build your REP with the Minor factions in Systems near the first one (who have Missions going there) until being Allied with most / all.
  • Get the best Missions (Board flipping through the instances still works) and see the credits roll in.

I think you ment to tell him to choose Reputation rewards to build the standing with a faction the quickest (building it up with Superpower aligned ones is always faster then with any Independents btw).

Influence rewards pay the least credits and are for pushing the % around.

Also here's my little Passenger hauler . Not a fighter as one can see, main goal is to deliver and not be held up. Top Boost is 470, enough to escape any NPC.

Kari clarified this already, but thanks for the confirmation.

Another thing to remember is that the higher your INFLUENCE with a faction at a station, the higher pay you get for their missions. Pick a few of factions--not necessarily all at the same station--and run the highest INFLUENCE missions you can and knock them out quickly.

Reputation is your standing with a faction, which gets you the nicer jobs.

Influence is the faction's standing in a particular system.
    I stand corrected.

Yep, I keep mixing the two.

Can someone help me? I don't know if I am doing something wrong or what but I keep trying to do combat missions, the ones which you got to kill x amount of a certain faction. Since I am still a youngling I grab missions that are rated harmless or mostly harmless. Where I go to the places they tell me everyone is master, elite, or dangerous and I stand no chance! What is going on?

I recommend that you don't take combat missions until you have more experience in basic bounty hunting. Go to navigation beacons and scan ships there for bounties, you'll have plenty of System authority backup if things go south and you can hone your combat skills in relative safety. While NPCs do get more skilled the higher their combat level, once you develop some personal skill of your own you'll learn to outmatch them.

Here's a valuable tip: Avoid punishment as much as possible while you dish it out. Yeah, self-explanatory and all, but here's a bit of detail:

Thermal weapons are best for breaking down shields (i.e. any type of laser or plasma-based weaponry)
Ballistic weapons are best for damaging an enemy ship's hull (i.e. multicannons, cannons, rail guns, etc.)
Point defense is handy for shooting down missiles while you pay more attention to combat, these intercept automatically. The other measure is ECMs which disrupts missile lock. Chaff disrupts gimballed hardpoint lock.
Here's an important one related to my first point: Utilize your boosters and vertical thrusters, sometimes simultaneously while in combat. It's a great evasive maneuver and in time you will be able to shake an enemy and get on his tail, or fire at him from above. Very handy when fighting a ship larger than you.

Elite Dangerous, like life itself, will happily offer you missions you can't complete. It's up to you to figure out what you can and can't do. That said... if you're in a system with other players, the NPC level will scale to their level. Try pulling weaker ships out of supercruise if you can find them, or drop in on Unidentified Signal Sources.

Winging up with a more experienced commander is also helpful. Someone that can survey the scene with a critical eye, give you some instructions and provide support fire or even pull aggro if necessary. Someone that will pull back and let you take on more hazards as you become more competent and confident.

With that said, combat zones are tricky, best place to get your teeth into bounty hunting are beacons and high resource sites where you can "wing up" with system security. But be warned, they do not tollerate stray shots.

Just adding to what the others said (and yes, I know - has nothing to do with missions itself):

You could try to go to Resoure Extraction Sites (RES) and see how you fare in those. LowRES, RES and HighRES are all having Security flying along. A viable method might be to get into a instance, follow the Cops and wait until they start attacking other wanted folks.

This way you always have some Wing(wo)men at your side and should be able to bring down larger prey. And earn good cash that way, building your Combat rank in the process.

Just a quick clarification on Rail Guns, these are 66% Thermal and 33% Kinetic, great for Shields and Hull.

Draxxa Kireth....not sure if you guys had a chance to look through the profiles of The Silverbacks :p....for the ape lovers

Ya know, it kinda reminds me of Freelancer and that Easter Egg with Planet Primus in Unknown System.

It's not happening now, I'd bought a Cutter specially to attend in. I was so looking forwards to having Jelly and Ice-cream with Princess Peach too.
